That’s as much on coaching as it is Carson.  He played his best ball when Flip was his QB coach and Reich (both former QBs) was OC.

Coaching isn't going to make a 5th year NFL QB a better decision maker or more accurate. Coaching can always be better and Doug was horrendous in week 1. Yesterday though they rolled Wentz out a few times like everyone was screaming for. They ran the ball a fair amount despite trailing most of the game. The OL did their job, including shutting down the best DT in the league. Wentz is a 5th year QB making 32 million a year who shouldn't have to be coddled anymore. No more excuses.

Its like I have (and others) said in the past... DP needs a OC the draws up nice plays, and needs a QB to execute them. DP has/haf a knack for calling the right play at the right time. Right now the OC is a question mark and the QB is making poor decisions and throws. At this point in Wentz's career he shouldn't need much coaching on mechanics, or being told to throw the ball away, or giving up easy ints. I can forgive a tipped ball, or a jump ball situation, but his 3 ints were boneheaded. Yes he has 4, but the last one was bogus.

Did they run the ball enough though?  Only 24 rushes to 43 called pass plays.  The teams that can balance that out more generally are the most successful.  I know the argument ... when you’re behind by a lot you pass more.  But they were only behind by a lot early (certainly not early enough to abandon the run).  They were within once score with a half to go, and Sanders was netting 4.8 yards per pop.  Maybe they didn’t want to work him too hard (he did get 20 carries) after returning from injury, but could have fed Scott a bit more too (he only had 4 carries and was gaining the same as Sanders ... 4.8 ypc).

The rams ran the exact offense we should be running. It’s the same Fing thing we dealt with when it was Andy/McNabb. Don was better on the move making plays but they insisted in having him be a pocket QB. They are doing that with Wentz. Seriously, it’s time to get it the F together. What are we doing, saving Wentz’s health so he can play crappy from the pocket? He’s more likely to be injured there anyway with the hits he takes. The guy Fing stinks right now. Roll him out of the pocket, let him do what he’s actually good at. Let him make some plays and get some confidence back.

Exactly what they should've been doing.

McNabb was benched in Baltimore. Cincy is where he didn’t know games could end in a tie.

Coaching can definitely have a big impact. I would never discount it. Obviously Wentz needs to be receptive to that coaching and make the adjustments too.

they have the Bengals, followed by Niners, Steelers, Ravens. If Wentz sucks again and they manage to lose to Cinci, it would be worthy of a benching... but you really can’t throw Hurts into that three game gauntlet.

Just a hunch, of course.

On a realistic note, from watching him play. He does some things well, sure. He's good on the run. He can make all of the throws.

Having said that, he doesn't have great arm strength. Strong enough? Probably. He stares receivers down. He gets happy feet in the pocket. He struggles with accuracy. His mechanics are poor.

You know, a lot of things people complain about in regards to Wentz.

Now of course he could become something special. He could be a stud that perfects these short comings and leads us to multiple Super Bowls...but I don't see it happening.

He's like what people thought Lamar Jackson would be: a QB who's more of a runner. Difference is Lamar had/has amazing arm talent, speed, etc.

Hurts has none of that.

Yeah, people didn't watch Hurts in college. He wasn't that good.

They were trailing big for most of the game. They ran the ball plenty enough considering the game script. There was a drive where they had gotten back in the game where they ran the ball five times in a row.

Your casting far too big of a net with that comment. Wentz's two biggest problems right now are horrible decision making and being erratic from an accuracy standpoint. All of the coaching in the world isn't going to fix that. Like I said, he's now a 5th year QB making 32 million a year. Short of Doug being out there to hold his hand and throw the ball for him there is nothing coaching is going to do right now.

Mechanics can still be fixed though and if they are fixed then his issues will improve. He has always had accuracy issues though, he's never going to be a high 60% completion rate.

It's blatantly obvious sometimes as to who watches college ball and who looks at stats/highlight videos on YouTube.

I was there myself I just actually kept quiet about it. Now....seems we were right. Foles led this team in a big way more than once....he was smart and led the team...

I wasn’t there. I believed Wentz could one day be considered a top 5 player in this league. I don’t see that happening anymore.

When the quarterback is overthrowing wide open players by ten yards in clean pockets I don’t think there’s any offense he’s going to look good in.

Did anyone catch that interview in the second quarter (I think) where they showed the old footage of Doug and Brett Favre, and the sideline correspondent said that she'd asked Doug if the conversations with Carson were the same kind that they were with Brett. According to her, Doug replied that they were mostly the same, except that (and I'm paraphrasing just a little bit here), as a backup, Doug explained that you could say to the starter, "Why didn't you throw it away?!" after an INT. But as a head coach, you can't go there, because you might turn the player off and that "misery is its own instruction" (or something pretty much exactly to that effect).

To me, this just confirmed a lot of what I posted in this thread earlier: Doug has no balls. He's not teaching, because he does not feel comfortable challenging Carson. He is too weak of a coach to actually get on Wentz's case a little and push bit and point out his mistakes to get his as$ in gear. I try to keep a level head and not get too down on a young player early in his career, so I'm still reserving final judgment on Wentz for at least this season. But I'm really starting to think that Doug has peaked.

I agree.  Carson is really driving me crazy but I think I'd rather them get a new HC and new voice in the locker room before they get rid of Carson.

I was hoping that Carson was good enough to basically motivate and coach himself  Clearly that isnt the case.  Its clear he still doesnt have a connection with most of the players.   I dont know what the issue is but he appears mentally week and he's not improving on his talent.   Basically he got paid and he's not being a 32million dollar QB.   he's in the bottom third of QBs if you had to rank who you would take if starting a franchise.

I really like the kid and he's got a great heart and is a caring person.   But he wasnt worthly of a number 2 pick.   and he isnt worth 32 million.   Christ i think Andy DAlton could run this offense better.

Yup. Knowing how Carson played early in his career, there's plenty of reason to believe that coaching might be a big part of the problem here. Add to it that there's many times more money and capital invested in Wentz than Pederson, the logical progression to me would be to consider a coaching change before trying to move Wentz.

His decision making appears to have slowed. His accuracy appears to  have eroded. Those are my issues with him.

Lets be honest here everyone.   When wentz tore up his knee he lost his balls.   He'll never be that QB again.   Thinking otherwise is just silly.   We are 3 seasons removed and the best he showed was a 4 game stretch last year against the worst teams in the league.   I wanted to believe he was going to build on that.  But seeing how unprepared and scared he looks makes me believe we have a 32 million doallar sam bradford.   No thanks.

Hurts is gonna be worse. Getting benched for choking in a championship game is a big red flag to me. That leaves...nobody.

It's up to Doug to make Wentz comfortable.  Maybe he needs to change the offense and just do stuff Carson excels at and is comfortable in.  Much like he did with Foles during the SB run.

I think the problem is... Doug has his scheme and wants Carson to fit the scheme. Carson has his style and that very much needs Doug to tailor the offense to his needs.

To me that's not good.  As a coach you need to adjust to what your players do well.  Go back and watch the 2017 season.  Go back to his days at ND state and see what he excels at, what he likes.

I don’t think any Eagles fan wants Carson to fail. I’d rather be 100% wrong about him and the Eagles are winning cause he’s elite. No one wants Carson to fail. I thought at the time the Eagles did the right thing. They invested in Carson and he was the younger player. It’s not like Foles has been lighting it up himself since he left either.
