people need to have trust and faith in themselves,  not the state or its instituions

False dichotomy. A lack of faith in institutions like the CDC and FDA breeds the kind of anti-science mentality that's become the real plague in this country. Listening to idiots say that Fauci doesn't know what he's talking about, while in the next breath they claim wearing a mask is detrimental to their health due to rebreathing carbon dioxide is a direct result of misplaced trust.

The social compact used to work before too many voters started thinking like this

False.

If we're an actual nation, they need both.

If you don't care about the union being preserved then go ahead and believe that. But I reject it, because without the state there to unify a nation as broad and complex as this one then we invite collapse.

That would be like Bernie Sanders calling everyone socialists.

I’d make the argument that the government has the same responsibility in a pandemic that it has during a war - to protect its citizens.

Pretty sure he's drunk. Or maybe just stupid.

Actually, it's probably both. Definitely both.

A CDC that finally says its airborne? Stop the presses

i know plenty of cdc folks including past directors etc. fda too. They are almost always the last to the party bc they are hamstrung by bureaucracy. Far better epidemiologists elsewhere.

they are as much politics as science sadly and thats not new. And nothing irks me more than politics contaminating science.

The contract only works when its mutually beneficial. That died with the new deal. Fdr is our worst president ever

Then you have no point. This contradicts your statement that people shouldn't trust the CDC. If your opinion is that the CDC is not trustworthy, the objective should be to rebuild that trust, not to tell others to "trust themselves", whatever that's supposed to mean.

I don't even know what this means, but okay.

No it doesnt. Try to keep up or stick to engineering where you might know something

the CDC suffers from such. I wish it didnt but that reality and long before trump. So people are right to be skeptical.

the problem is fools like yourselves latching on to this stuff you dont understand just because Trump makes you so butthurt.

you may now proceed with a fervent response that has nothing to do with my points, as usual.

What points? You dont have any because you're not making any sense. First you said people should trust themselves, then you imply they should trust other epidemiologists. Hence why I think you might be drunk.

If we both agree that the average American is by and large uniformed, especially when it comes to epidemiology or even just science in general, then why should they trust themselves over actual epidemiologists?

Proptip, telling people to "stay in their lane" academically while simultaneously mocking their criticism of a truly abominable response to a crisis makes you look like an idiot.

You pretending the nation is full of robots is childish. You're treating the world as you wish it was (robotic, rational, unemotional) and not as it is. That's childish.

Obama didn't divide the nation. It's not his fault half the nation threw a temper tantrum over his election.

You're projecting.......

Fair warning: he's going to call you "emotional" now.

Have you not seen him use wedge issues on a daily basis to divide the nation?

I'm sorry dude, if you don't see it I can't convince you of it. The evidence is overwhelming.

Help me?  You are sorry that you can't help me see things like you do?  Do you have any idea how arrogant and stupid that sounds?

Trump's actual message is maybe the most inclusive message in recent history.  His demeanor is rotten at times and he says stupid things that cause offense and division...I see that for sure.  However, there is overwhelming evidence that sloppy talk will be just as bad under Biden.  Trump's message is about making all Americans prosperous, making our nation strong and self sufficient again and bringing back working class jobs to the United States in order to provide domestic prosperity for all.  All of these things were happening prior to Covid and they are recovering now.

Contrast that with Obama who spoke very eloquently about "unity" while driving enormous racial division in this country.  Obama had a golden opportunity as an African American to bring this country together.  Instead, he chose to pander to the black community, and side with them (even when when our legal system found them in the wrong).  He did this all while cozying up to the most divisive black leadership in our country.  While doing this, he completely neglected the working class white community who had put their trust in him to bring "Change".  Meanwhile, working class jobs and communities continued to deteriorate.  Obama's divisive behavior is exactly what created a space for Trump.

The difference between you and I is that you care more about how a president acts and what they say...you like polish.  I like results.

You sure do sound like a Trump supporter.  But you’ve said you’re not, so I’ll take your word for it.

You're internal joke has somehow gotten twisted.  I have always said I am voting for Trump, which makes me a supporter.   What I am not, is a blind fool who does not see his flaws....you all refer to them as a Trumpbots.
