2 chicks at the same time.

For my 40th I did some of the Kentucky bourbon distillery tour.

Actually, I'm waiting for makers mark to let me know that the barrel with my name on it is matured. Would be a great 40th trip

Worth it.

🤣

I was late to watching Thunderbolts but I thought it was boring. Bunch of pep talks and speeches

Usually not a good sign if people aren't even talking about it here. Marvel put out spoilers in their ads, perhaps trying to get more people to see it. I may take my son to the theater to see it, or we'll just wait for Disney+ but I'm not in a rush. It is the 3rd lowest box office of the MCU movies (the only worse are The Incredible Hulk and The Marvels).

Marvel fatigue is a real thing. Like Star Wars, kids are not as interested as they were 10 years ago and the nerds don't trust Disney - they did the same thing they did to the Comics. I spoke to someone this weekend who enjoys most Marvel and Star Wars stuff regardless, and they said the Red Hulk film wasn't good. Doesn't bode well for Doomsday if people like that have lost interest

i agree with that statement but also have to ask....who are all the people that went apeshit over the announcement for doomsday last comic con ?

They took characters from the Hulk movie and put them into...the first Sam Wilson Captain America movie. They used Red Hulk as the primary marketing draw. They have done reshoots and changed directions on multiple projects, that shows a lack of direction, or the execs reacting to internet buzz before trailers are even released.

These things should be easy for the biggest entertainment company in the world to handle.

Captain America with Sam Wilson: make it more like Winter Soldier, a spy action thriller that involves military. Was Sidewinder supposed to be a cool character? They cast Giancarlo Esposito and he had like 2 brief scenes. Getting into the political landscape after the 5 year blip and what the world needs from superheroes these days (I suppose Thunderbolts is trying to address that but haven't seen it).

If you're going to use characters from the Hulk movie, you waste the opportunity for real character development and closure. Bruce fought against General Ross, now he's the President turning into Red Hulk, who better to assist than Bruce that's a layup. Bruce collaborated with Samuel Sterns, now he's a villain. Bruce had a relationship with Betty, for her to see that he's become Professor Hulk/Smart Hulk whatever they're calling it would have been emotional payoff for her to see he's at peace with it after all those years. An easy movie to make - despite the contractual situation about solo Hulk movie but they sorted out Spiderman - and doesn't need to be cringe.

I mean this politely. I'd think those Con events let in a certain type of fan that may not represent the wider fanbase. Hence the whooping and hollering that didn't last long

Esposito's character was a last minute add on to the film; hence why he appeared infrequently for his trailer appearances , and was filming reshoots a lot.

If I recall, a pro wrestler had a decent sized role in the film that was cut -the Serpent Society.

Speaking of reshoots

Marvel Studios is reportedly in panic mode over the Fantastic Four: First Steps ending. According to a post on X by user Will-Iam Smith, audiences didn’t respond well to the film’s ending during early test screenings. The post reads: "Hearing the test screenings didn’t go over well because audiences didn’t vibe with the ending, so now they’re reshooting some scenes. I’m still hopeful it’ll be good, but it’s a little worrying — Marvel really needs this one to be a home run. #FantasticFour”

Sources Report Fantastic Four Ending Completely Reworked...

Rumors are swirling that the recent Fantastic Four reshoots in LA were a last minute attempt by Marvel to fix the movie's ending.

Marvel Studios was so successful in the beginning because they had sort of a startup mentality. They were tired of movie companies not getting it right so they built their own studio to have creative control. Now they've gone into territory of other studios and becoming what they were trying to not be.

man, the biggest problem here is that it seems they had a good road map and plan for everything up to endgame but now they made so much money that theyre just making movies and trying to game plan by the seat of their pants. it looks like they have some plan now, but they dont know the best way to get to that plan from where they are

The trailer for this looks dumb as sheet. They cant get fantastic four right

Their plan was multiverse and Kang. Then off-screen issues with Jonathan Majors made them pivot. I don't follow celebrity gossip stuff but he may have been eventually cleared of that. It's also difficult when they introduce things in TV shows not everyone has seen. Casual fans can't keep up, but even comic book fans who didn't watch a certain show or didn't watch in order might not know what's going on or know who a certain side character is.

The stories in the multiverse saga just haven't been good IMO

The infinity saga was just better overall

Some of the issues:

  • They started putting out too many movies in the same year leading up to Endgame.

  • They should have slowed down after Endgame to let the stories breathe.

  • Then do some solo movies without a big plot connecting them. Guardians 3 for example was good and not connected to anything else.

  • Focus on some of the TV shows for a bit.

  • Then do another big Avengers movie team up with whoever is left. Pace themselves more.

  • COVID was also a factor, the first products during COVID were the experimental WandaVision which had a slow start and Black Widow, which should have been a solo movie put out prior to Infinity War.

I didn't realise the early films were distributed by Paramount before Marvel was bought by Disney.. The below were made or started under Paramount

Filmography

You can perhaps cheekily argue that Paramount and Marvel started the MCU, and Disney rode their coat tails on that arc to make big money. Once Disney got outside of the plan, it started to go wrong and they've lost money instead.

The likes of Joss Whedon played their part in that too

Distributed is one thing, but Marvel Studios run be Feige had creative control. They got to choose the producers, directors and actors. That's why early casting was so on point.

It is. If I recall, Feige didn't have the full oversight in the Paramount phase he does now - there was a TV guy in place under Ike Perlmutter. That model wasn't perfect by any means, but it had some balance to it.

I guess. Either way, it was still a kind of startup mentality and they were taking risks whereas now they're questioning, changing directions, delaying projects with reshoots and that sort of thing.

I think connecting the movies was actually something they weren't successful with for mutliverse. They did a great job in infinity saga

They need to focus on better stories for their movies more than focusing on tv shows. TV shows require you to get disney+

Why do they keep doing this?

Gsd9RoGbgAA3otI?format=png&name=900x900

Would make sense why the test screenings were so bad?

Spoiler and gossip

The final battle shown at the screening was Galactus vs Sue Storm & Silver Surfer.

The other bit of gossip is Pedro Pascal was not the first choice to play Reed Richards, likely 4th or 5th choice. Some big names said no

Yup. That insufferable press conference gives me hives

Ballerina looks to have flopped badly for its budget, so it's another example of the consumer not wanting to watch a film with a girl boss in it. Speaking of which Iron Heart is out in 2 weeks and looks to be another corker

Spoiler

Sasha Baron Cohen is Mephisto in this and apparently Disney know the series is a turd because they filmed it a long time agol
