This would not happen on the flat earth model. Another simple, but time consuming observation. Look at the orientation of the Big Dipper, ( or Southern Cross in the Southern Hemisphere). Check out its orientation 3 months later. It has shifted 90 degrees. Flat earth has no way to explain this.

If he were in a Court of Law and asked to prove his case, the Jury would rule against him for lack of evidence. And cell companies and satellite TV providers base their technology on a globe earth and satellites orbiting the planet. It would not work if it was bouncing off a firmament. Before we had scientists and technology to measure things outside of what you can see with your own eyes, it was accepted that the Earth was flat. Then it was proven round. This happened before the invention of mass communication and air travel. If it was decided at some point by whoever ( not sure who would perpetrate such a conspiracy ) that we should control everyone by saying that the Earth is round, there would be no way to communicate that information without it being discovered. Mail was the only form of communication, how would it not be discovered by theft of said mail. How many people would be involved in the conspiracy today ?? His Religion leads him to reject all science? Definitely not Trusting the Government is a huge part of it. What led to this? Trump's election?
