Jalen Hurts - shoulder sprain injury; expected for playoffs

Featured Replies

I will say this, watching this game makes me realize why you guys are so high on Minshew. He wouldn't be better than either of these qbs, but he wouldn't be worse, either.

And the third down throw by Wentz into the end zone. Yikes.

Doesn’t matter who’s the QB if the Oline can’t block, the WR’s can’t get open, the coaches can’t coach and the GM can’t identify talent.

  • So we had to listen to an entire week of "He runs too much".   What will the talking points be this week?  Jalen and this Team can win in multiple ways.  Stop trying to put him in some box where he on

Freezing cold take anyone?

I just don't get the Wentz hate.  Exactly what did he do to get some fans to hate him so much?  Yeah, he was awful last year, but you think he did that on purpose?  He should have adjusted his game and tried to play smarter than being a gunslinger, which he has admitted that's how he likes to play, sort of like Favre.  Him being stubborn isn't a reason to hate the guy.  He had mostly trash WRs the last 2 seasons, Pederson without Reich ran a predictable boring O, constant rotating OL, he most likely came back too soon from the ACL and should have taken more time to be as fully fit as possible then hurt his back because of it (BTW, dude started this year playing on TWO bad ankles, so anyone who says he is soft is biased AF), and took a dirty cheap shot to knock him out of a playoff game which is NOT his fault.  Sometimes I think 4for4 is on to something that Wentz being an alabaster ginger from the Midwest who likes to hunt and thumps a bible turns some people off.  Nothing wrong with putting food on your table yourself and his bible thumping (And I'm so not the type of person who is into the bible, but as long as you don't try to preach to me what works for you and what you do doesn't hurt others then we're cool) brought about Thy Kingdom Crumb that provided FREE food to people in need (Oh, and his charity softball games at CBP, anyone?).  Yeah, what a F'ing Ahole he is.  So is this the equation that some are following in the current social climate:  swag >>>>> charity?

I think some guys are like women in that they feel jilted Wentz bolted for another team.  Funny, because most of us bish in here how F'd up the FO is and how Lowie is out of control ruining the team because they think they're the smartest guys in the NFL, yet you won't cut a player some slack for wanting to get away from that clusterF ish show.  I would have liked to seen Wentz in Siri's O and if he could have been closer to 2017 Wentz than 2020 Wentz, but also can't fault the guy for having insurmountable issues with Lowie.

Wentz could have been a better QB if he wasn't so stubborn.  At some point you have to make adjustments.  That was his Achilles Heal, his inability to adjust and adapt.  Doesn't warrant hatred of the man, FFS.  He needed a QBC like DeFilippo to stay on his ass and keep up with his mechanics and play the game a certain way.  Most QBs need that kind of support.  It's very rare to get a QB who can do it on his own and literally put the team on his back and carry them.  I can accept Wentz was more the guy who needed help than the guy to just take over himself and will the team to big Ws.  Guess others can't do that.

My issues with Hurts have been the same all season and those are things he's not good at that are more instinctive than coachable so he will only improve a little bit over what we see now, which is just not good enough.  Minshew is not the long term answer either, but he's better at those instinctive qualities than Hurts so we can better see what Siri's O could be with the right QB and what our young skills players could be with a QB that distributes the ball to them on time.  We currently have 2 career backup QBs on our roster.  That's Lowie's fault and nobody else's.

Belichick kicking a field goal inside the 5 and down 13 with 8 minutes left is the clearest indication of what the brightest mind in football thinks of both of the qbs in this game.

Doesn't say anything about the QB's but rather how the game is going. This is a trench game.

It's a trench game because of the qbs.

We run the ball well, 2nd in the league well, but because our QB sucks we have a losing record

The Eagles last year (4-11-1)  The Eagles this year (6-7)

The Colts last year (11-5 )     The Colts this year (8-6)

The Eagles were worse last year with Wentz.

The Colts are worse this year with Wentz.

The Eagles sent Wentz to the Colts - freeing the Eagles of a $30M a year obligation.  And they got a 1st round pick.

The replacement is doing better than Wentz did last year,  they don't have to pay 30M a year for years, and a 1st.  Good job.

Whilst I agree the Eagles were right to trade Wentz I don't think it's quite that simple. Wentz has been pretty good for Indy this year and I think has probably been better than Hurts has been. Wentz sucked last year I mean really sucked but it wasn't all his fault. There were many factors that led to the horror show.

Jalen Hurts - 3,100 total yards, 21 TDs, 9 turnovers

Carson Wentz - 3,200 total yards, 24 TDs, 10 turnovers

By these numbers alone, it is hard to make the argument that Wentz has been better. But add in the fact that Wentz has played two more games, and it is somewhat asinine. And Wentz's numbers are better than Mac Jones'.

I think it's time everyone splash some water on their faces, look in the mirror and start admitting to some cold, hard truths. I know it hasn't been easy to watch Hurts try and throw the ball this year. But the fact remains that the production we are getting out of the qb position is easily in the top half of the league.

This is important because, if we change qbs, the new person has to be substantially better than Wentz. Right now, if we swapped Wentz for Hurts, our offense likely gets a lot worse. Wentz left a 4-11-1 team for a team that made the playoffs, and made it with pretty mediocre qb play. And he has been worse this year than Rivers was last year. There is zero evidence he would be better than Hurts if he still played for us, especially when he's playing for a better offense right now and not doing as well.

And that's the problem facing the Eagles. Bringing in a vet will cost a lot in terms of cap space and draft picks. So while Russell Wilson will likely make the offense better, we will still have an aging, overmatched defense. A rookie is unlikely to be better than Wentz, so he's not going to be any better than Hurts. Jones is the best rookie in a qb class considered to be exceptional, and he's not any better than Wentz.

At some point we all need to have a moment of clarity and realize that there is no solution that doesn't require Roseman pulling off the greatest deal he has ever managed to do, one that nets us a Wilson/Watson and preserves the majority of our draft capital, or that he manages to identify a franchise qb in this draft class - and be the only one to identify that person - so that the person is available when we pick.

Are either of those likely scenarios?

Or do we just build the defense and try the approach that the Patriots and Colts are taking - riding with flawed but functional qbs and hoping that it is enough to beat the Mahomes and Herberts of the world. Because the alternatives - finding a Mahomes or Herbert of our own or getting one (Wilson or Watson) at a cheap price - seems like a fantasy to me.

Mac Jones and Carson Wentz combine for 45 first quarter passing yards, and 8 of those were essentially a hand off by Wentz, but these two are top 15?

And Wentz with two really bad misses as well.

It is nice to see the Hurts Haters actually have to watch some non-Eagles football to see what the rest of the league actually looks like.

The rest of the league passes better than Hurts.

Total yards bro.

Doesn't matter that Hurts is on equal footing with Daniel Jones as a passer.

So you don't think a qb should be based on how many yards and points he produces?

Should there be a swimsuit competition?

Why does it bother you so much that Hurts is outproducing more than half of the other qbs in the league?

And yet it isn't equating to wins. Total yards from a QB is meaningless when they aren't near the league lead in pass TD and offensive efficiency for running QB's. Trying to make up for the passing deficiencies with Hurts' running is not a formula for success. Don't bother mentioning Lamar Jackson. They aren't even close to the same.

Not sure what you are saying here. So pass TDs count differently than other TDs? If the team scores, who cares how they do it? Trying to make up for the passing deficiencies with Hurts' running is not a formula for success. Debunked earlier in the thread. I don't feel like explaining again why this is untrue. Don't bother mentioning Lamar Jackson. They aren't even close to the same. Jackson, 3,600 total yards, 18 TDs, 16 turnovers. Hurts' stats are well known by now. You may not think they are close to the same. But you are wrong.

Hurts is definitely comparable to Lamar Jackson.   You compare them,  they both have a lot of rushing yards,  they are both in the same running QB category.    Jackson does have those rushing records, and Hurts is in the ballpark.  Hurts is up there, though.

Jackson won the MVP in 2019, hasn't been doing as well this year.   Hard to say who is better.  If I was Lamar Jackson,  I would like the Philly Oline.  They're definitely comparable.  Jackson is better.   Hurts is not as good as a guy who was MVP 2 years ago.  Hurts is on the team,  running the offense with more success than last year.  Rookie coach,  where typically rookie coaches don't start well. He's signed, very cheaply, for 2 more years after this one.   Someone like Russell Wilson would be an upgrade.   You would be giving up a lot of picks and a lot of money to get a player who is better.  Hurts has done pretty well,  the amount that would have to be spent,  tremendous amounts,  is much more than the value of the improvements.

Stay the course.

I think they are comparable but I think Lamar is a better runner and I think he has a better arm too.

I think Wentz still sucks. He just gets bailed out.

For how long?

I'd say most of our losses are due to our defense being crap in those games., I'm willing to pin the Giants loss on Hurts' poor play, and even then he could've been bailed out if Reagor knew how to catch the ball 😄

Anyway, should be a tough game for the birds tomorrow.

I wish Minshew could play the Jets every week. We would never lose!

Haha, I wish whoever our starting QB is could play the Jets every week.  My problem with the Minshew support is that he's had his time in Jax to prove he should be a starting QB in this league, and Hurts deserves a full season here to prove whether he can, or can't.  I have no problem with there being a QB competition next year if Hurts fails to win the job outright this season.

Agreed. Either way I don’t want the Eagles to sacrifice their draft capital and the cap space to go after one of the alleged available quarterbacks. Watson and this team will not win many more games than they already do. This roster needs much more overall talent than just a quarterback. I don’t mind if they draft a quarterback and groom him for a year as the eventual replacement to either Hurts or Minshew either.

So the Eagles roster needs a major influx of talent for Hurts to succeed, but Minshew, who played well, was supposed to succeed in Jacksonville with the worst roster in the NFL ??
