Jalen Hurts - shoulder sprain injury; expected for playoffs

When it comes down to it you can only play the team in front of you on the schedule. The Eagles are 8-7 and in a playoff hunt. People are mad about it. That makes absolutely no sense to me.

Exactly, and for the most part they have been whooping lesser teams asses .

Doesn’t matter who’s the QB if the Oline can’t block, the WR’s can’t get open, the coaches can’t coach and the GM can’t identify talent.

  • So we had to listen to an entire week of "He runs too much".   What will the talking points be this week?  Jalen and this Team can win in multiple ways.  Stop trying to put him in some box where he on

That’s the way it works here.

while some of us enjoy this win and look forward to next week,  others look forward to an eagles collapse so they can tell you the told us so

and we go round and round.

I wasn't complaining I'm just making a general statement. 16 teams in the league are .500 and below so half the league sucks.

This is why 6 seed SuperBowl winners are the only true champions in the nfl. They played all the best teams on their fields. Every other sb winner sucks.

Considering they were considered one of those lesser teams can we really be upset they’re doing that?

I'm not, can't say that for others though.

Like I said earlier this fan base is unhinged.

Yeah I’m not blaming you. Just kind of crazy. I’m convinced people around here (well certain people) would rather lose with a quarterback they think can win them a Super Bowl, than win with one they think can’t do it. They would be perfectly happy with a one win team so long as their quarterback is a drop back statute.

The AD and boosters should have gotten together and fired Saban, as soon as he benched Hurts.
That SOB had a lot of nerve, I hope there is an investigation during the Eagles playoff run to the Super Bowl!!   Get em Jalen!!!

The problem isn’t Hurts.  Anyone with a sense of objectivity knows what he is and isn’t at this point.  It’s that the coach and management have been seduced by a backwards 1980’s style offense with no threat to pass that offers zero long term upside for competing in the playoffs.

After they get a good defense and tweak the offense a little,  a big and fast RB who is great would be good,  the Eagles will be able to know if Hurts is good enough to keep for years.  This should be after 2023.

They would have saved money at the QB spot for 2 years just by keeping Hurts,  built the defense to a position of great strength, the Eagles should be better next year, and this year it looks like the playoffs are a real possibility.

It's all good with Hurts.

How the hell did Hurts get elected to the Pro Bowl team for anything?

The issue is that Hurts glaring issues as a passer won’t get it done against good teams. He’s still forcing balls, under throwing passes, and completely missing wide open receivers especially in the red zone. This is two straight weeks he didn’t see a wide open receiver in the end zone. He just doesn’t see the field well.

Pro Bowl voting is a joke. It has been for years

This current team can only play from the lead where ball control works.  If we get down to a point where we have to pass to come back, we are in deep trouble.  Kudos to the team for playing to their strength and possibly getting to 10 wins (SOS related), but it feels like fools gold.

Rushing and rushing TDs.

That, and the Pro Bowl is a joke.

Hey he did that for us this year! Must be a patented move!

The quarterback is in his second season. You’re expecting perfection from a developing player. Despite his imperfections he still has his team winning. The issue is people are ridiculously impatient.

What else would you expect from "Eagles" fans?  I'm sure every fan base is like this, but I hate fans like this.

The irony is most of these guys spent the last three season blaming everyone in the organization for Wentz basically making the same mistakes Hurts is making. These guys killed Agholor for drops. We have literally watched clear and multiple drops by many different receivers this season and not a peep about it from these clowns this year. I wonder why?

I don't think too many people have any illusions of this team wreaking havoc in the playoffs.   They might play their A game and get lucky once, but they aren't good enough.

I'm just happy they are finally running the ball and doing it very well.   Hurts is barely adequate, so they do what they have to do.

I don't know where this false narrative comes from because I see it even on facebook

Never seen anyone say they want the team to suck

This was from Peter King's FMIA article and I think it fits nicely right here when talking about Hurts.

I think there’s one thing about very modern football that bothers me a lot, and that’s impatience. This was a headline in The Athletic (which is great, by the way) on Saturday: "Only Zach Wilson can change the Jets’ narrative, and he’s running out of time.” Sheesh. After 14 games, Wilson is on trial for his life? Zach Wilson got drafted by a wayward 2020 franchise, the 2-14 Jets, and he’s struggling. Big deal! Let me remind you of one thing: The first year the Steelers won the Super Bowl was Terry Bradshaw’s fifth season in the NFL. Coming out of camp that year, Bradshaw was beaten out by Joe Gilliam. He regained the starting job, and later in the season, Chuck Noll yanked Bradshaw for Terry Hanratty. Bradshaw won back the job and was the Super Bowl starter that season, the first of four Super Bowl wins in the next six seasons. There’s a reason why the Jets stay awful. Actually there are several. But one is that the media and fans are impatient, and then a collective unconvinced front office/ownership is impatient. In the end, so often, it results in the waste of a very high top pick. Wake up, people.

That's my favorite play. He had a couple of those at OU and one so far this year

He’s not wrong, and this is after the Jets used a first on Darnold in 2018!

That is the problem with football today. Back then there wasn't twitter, facebook, messageboards, reddit, etc. There wasn't an outlet for every no nothing fan to vent about how the QB sucks or how this coach sucks or this player is not that good. Coaches were allowed the time to actually bring players up the way they wanted to, without the pressure from all these outside sources that in their own minds, think they know better.

Take yesterday for example - that play that everyone is ****ing about with Hurts not seeing Goedert in the endzone. The play was obviously designed to have the defense follow Goedert and the other WRs out into the endzone, which would have cleared out the underneath route for Reagor. Hurts did what the play was called to do. Now if he was a 5 year vet, he might have seen what the defense was going to do and maybe he would call motion to check on it, or maybe this play he had ran 20 times and has seen it works against different defense and would have known that Goedert would be open but he is not that. He is a young player that is still learning. Yes he missed it, but does that mean he terrible and can never learn from this? If they ran this play 10 times and 5 times Goedert was open and he missed him every time, then people would have a point, but that is not the case here.

The worst part of all this is that I still don't know if Hurts can be the guy or not. I am not defending him because I think he is great. I am defending him because I know he is young, it takes time to learn the QB position especially when he was not necessarily taught how to read defenses in college and fans are usually dumb with their opinions.

Funny thing is in 2020 Carson missed several open receivers on plays and threw multiple times into double and triple coverage. Many of the same guys ripping Hurts defended Carson for doing the same stuff. Truth is every quarterback misses from time to time especially young quarterbacks. It gets magnified, by the very loud idiotic minority, because they don’t like the player. Hopefully the Eagles do what is best for their franchise here and not worry about the loud and obnoxious minority. Seriously if any team ran their franchise off the musings of people like Angelo Caltaldi they would have new coaches and players on a weekly basis.

When it comes to Hurts I think it’s clear they never really wanted to have to play him this early. They were hoping to groom and develop him for a couple of seasons and then make a decision on what to do with him. Unfortunately (and fortunately) their quarterback flaked and wanted out of town. It put them in a bind, but they put him out there anyway. Right now they’re winning football games while these still developing similar to how the Eagles won with McNabb even though he clearly wasn’t a polished quarterback earlier in his career.
