Jalen Hurts - shoulder sprain injury; expected for playoffs

hahaha ok we'll go with the fact he hasn't beaten one team with a winning record this year then ;) I know....that was the regular season. That's a lifetime ago in terms of Hurts apologists.

How tiresome it must be to repeat the same ish over and over and over. He’s the QB of the Eagles, until he’s not. In his first full year at starter this team got to the playoffs. Like what the F else do you want right now? Is he the future of the  franchise? Most likely not. But what does constantly harping about it change right now? Nothing. What? You want Minshew to start the playoff game? Want them to sign a FA QB to play in R1? I mean, JFC you guys honestly just never STFU about it.

Doesn’t matter who’s the QB if the Oline can’t block, the WR’s can’t get open, the coaches can’t coach and the GM can’t identify talent.

  • So we had to listen to an entire week of "He runs too much".   What will the talking points be this week?  Jalen and this Team can win in multiple ways.  Stop trying to put him in some box where he on

Because you can’t deal with rational thought. Just keep pissing and moaning like a high school girl. That’ll show ‘em.

Yeah, I bailed again after rational thought. Nobody comes to TATE for rational thought.

LOL Jalen lost to them by 20 WITH the starters. Minshew didn't play great the 2nd half but it was pretty much over and a total crap show by then. If you think Jalencan'tseethefield would have looked better I beg to differ.

In a game that the running backs touched the ball three times the entire game.  Now they are the leading rushing attack in the NFL.  Just think what might have been had they figured out how to run the ball in the first five weeks of the season.

We agree. The Eagles play better when he isn't throwing the ball.

I'm hoping he shows improvement in that area, but I'm not holding my breath.  I don't always agree with Shannon Sharpe but I do agree with his take:  "Can you win with a guy like Jalen hurts?  Sure. You may sneak in the playoffs as a wildcard, or maybe win a division title, but he won't win you a super bowl the way he is playing right now.  You have to have a QB that can throw the football."

I mean look the Titans are one of the hot teams going in to the play offs. They have a chance of winning the SB and Tannehill is really not that good.

That's the problem.  Hurts is just good and exciting enough to beat bad teams, but not good enough to get a team over the top, PLUS 8, 9 10 wins just lands us later in the draft away from the pure talent and makes us depend on Howie's draft prowess.   I do not like our QB position one bit.

I like Shannon, but he's often wrong (and to be fair - him and Skip usually just pick opposite ends of an argument on every topic/player).

I do not know whether Hurts is the guy or not, but this idea that he can't beat good teams just isn't right. The D has been a disaster against any top 10 QB, basically giving up yards at will. Hurts kept us in games against Brady and Herbert, but the D couldn't get a stop.

Hurts is on a ludicrously cheap contract which helps a lot. You get him a capable veteran WR to play opposite Smith and add to the O-Line. You then use at least 2 first rounders on the D which desperately needs young talent.

See what Hurts can do with another weapon, another year of growth and a better D. If he's not up to it, then you hopefully have a team that is a QB away, as Tampa were before they got Brady.

Tannehill has better stats than Hurts

Which is why I said I hope he shows improvement.  What about Shannon's opinion is wrong?  Do you think Hurts looks great as a passer right now?  I sure don't.  He is wildly inconsistent.

Well, it's not been proven wrong yet either.   More importantly, can he show that he can lead a team back by throwing the ball?  There's a lot of questions still around Hurts.  He's going to be the guy in 2022.  But, they need to continue to look for another QB.   He's not earned the team's unending support or even a second contract at big money.  He makes sense right now because of the running ability and the cheap contract.   When he's older and more expensive... his game had better have developed significantly from where it is now to make him still the best choice for moving forward.

Firstly I don't think he has been wildly consistent in the past few weeks. One bad game against the Giants, but apart from that has thrown the ball pretty well in the second half of the season. Absolutely room for improvement as you say.

And yes I do think Jalen Hurts could win a Super Bowl with the way he is playing now. But he would probably need a top 5 D to help him do it.  Remember the Broncos won recently with the remains of Peyton Manning and Brock?

Tannehills passing stats first two years as starter are first and Hurts are second. They are pretty similar, but I would argue Hurts is a much bigger threat with his feet.

Miami chose to move on from Tannehill, probably because he wasn’t the "elite” qb they hoped for when they drafted him with an 8th overall pick. Tennessee, who had a solid all around team, brought in Tannehill as a complimentary piece, and are probably going to be the #1 seed in the AFC. Meanwhile, the Dolphins are still QB searching and watching the playoffs from home.

Who would you rather be more like Titans or Dolphins?

Hurts - 262 total yards per game, 1.7 TDs a game, .7 turnovers a game.

Tannehill - 232 total yards per game, 1.5 TDs a game, 1.1 turnovers a game.

The only way you can think Tannehill has better stats is if you have a flawed understanding of how numbers work.

Agreed but I don't want my QB being the main runner on the team. That's the RBs job

I guess I am confused. Are you posting this to prove Hurts is the better all around qb? Because that's the point you are making.

As far as passing, Tannehill averages 6.9 yards per attempt. Jalen Hurts averages 7.3. So every time Tannehill passes, he generates less yards than every time Hurts passes. Again, unless you don't know how numbers work, there's really no explanation for why you are trying to use them to make your point that Tannehill is better.

You are confused

With what we know now, the Eagles shouldn't give #1 QB money to Hurts, so moving to the next phase of the QB isn't a bad idea.  Sorry, but I don't see enough passing talent in Hurts to ever get us anywhere, BUT you are right about adding talent around him.  That's how Alabama and OU covered for his shortcomings.

I agree, I don’t want our qb leading the running game, but it’s a nice weapon to have.

I still want Hurts to develop his passing game, and I don’t think he’s a finished product yet, based on his work ethic and his drive to become more. Another extremely important piece of the puzzle is whether or not our coaching staff can develop the position.

My point is you’re comparing an 8-9 vet to a first full year starter. I would rather build a team around the position, give Hurts another year and see what we have, see how the staff can develop him, instead of jumping on the elite QB searching merry go round.

There aren’t many QB’s that can be successful without a supporting cast. Let’s build the supporting cast first and then if Hurts can’t get the job done, if he can’t… we’ll be a qb away and we can get one then.

We don't even think about extending Hurts now. Let him start 2022 and try and add an extra first or second for 2023, when there is meant to be a better class.

See what Hurts does next year and then can take a view.

I find it quite funny the same people so adamantly wanting to dump Hurts wouldn’t even consider dumping Wentz if he were still here. I know, because most of the people demanding Hurts be removed were crying when Wentz left after playing like dog crap for an entire season.

Hurts now has the chance to have more playoff wins than Wentz with the Colts out officially. Already going to tie him in starts.
