Jalen Hurts - shoulder sprain injury; expected for playoffs

Featured Replies

I’m not even sure where I stand with Hurts now. Ideally I’d like an upgrade, but I don’t see a single QB they could draft this year that is worth a first. I also don’t want to waste multiple first round picks trading for a guy like Rodgers or Wilson who are older and, in Wilson’s case, starting to show signs of regressing. I’d be all in on Watson if it wasn’t for the legal issues but wouldn’t touch him now.

I tend to think the best path forward is to just stick with Jalen for another year, given that I see no good alternatives, and build up the rest of the team. Then in 2023 you can get your QB, with a (hopefully) much better roster around him.

Doesn’t matter who’s the QB if the Oline can’t block, the WR’s can’t get open, the coaches can’t coach and the GM can’t identify talent.

  • So we had to listen to an entire week of "He runs too much".   What will the talking points be this week?  Jalen and this Team can win in multiple ways.  Stop trying to put him in some box where he on

I saw what I needed to see from him this year. The kid will be just fine.

My biggest fear is Howie sells the farm For Russ or some other aging vet (aaron would Never agree to come here and would retire upon being traded).  I’m with you in that jalen I don’t believe is the long term answer.  He can improve and I think he will, but in multiple games he’s shown the same limitations.  But I also agree there’s no franchise lock qb coming out this year, 2023 yes, but not this year.  Another poster said let’s trade one if the 1st round picks this year for a 2023 first to use on a qb, the. use the other two to draft defense, and I think that makes total sense.  But I don’t trust Howie to make the right decisions.

Yep, I saw this when they showed the replay, I've always said Hurts need to learn the value of stepping up in the pocket, matter of fact, on that play he didn't even need to step up, no, his dumb arse wasn't even looking downfield which shows his head wasn't in the game, that's where the top QBs beat teams, their heads are in the game.

Another thing that puzzled me all season long, why would he more often than not run right at the least sign of pressure, the pressure would come from the right and he'd run right, dude needs to learn the position, apparently this Brian Johnson guy (QB Coach) doesn't know jack.

Howie Roseman says Eagles enter offseason with plan to build around Jalen Hurts as starting QB

Howie Roseman addressed the media on Wednesday morning and was asked if he believes Jalen Hurts should remain the Eagles' starting quarterback. Roseman said he wanted to see Jalen Hurts "take the bull by the horn this season and he certainly did that."

A follow-up was asked if that is a "Yes" on Hurts remaining the starter and Roseman said "Yes."

"We got to do whatever we can to continue to help him develop," Roseman said of Hurts.

Roseman was also asked about having three first-round picks and if that opens up the organization to drafting new positions, like linebacker and cornerback, in round one.

Hurts, in 15 games as a first-year starter with the Eagles was 8-7 this season, throwing for 3,144 yards, 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions. However, Hurts was a dynamic playmaker with his legs, rushing for 784 yards and 10 touchdowns.

When asked if Hurts was told by the Eagles if he is the starting quarterback going forward, head coach Nick Sirianni told the media that, "Jalen knows where he stands with us."

Having three first-round picks keeps the Eagles involved in rumors when it comes to big name quarterbacks, like Russell Wilson, Aaron Rodgers, and Deshaun Watson.

I caught the end of it live, need to watch the whole thing on YouTube.  But at the end, they asked him about it again. Reporter said last year you said the same thing about Carson Wentz and then things changed.  Howie laughed, then gave a vague answer about always looking at every position for opportunity for improvement.

Asked about trading picks for a QB:  he said they're evaluating the team and looking for ways to build.  "Our job is to look at everything."

So cherry picking a couple quotes from a 35 minute press conference isn't as clear when you hear other vague answers.

Well, I was thinking back over recent years with question of "Does Eagles management often say one thing and then do the complete opposite?," and I really don't recall them frequently doing so. The Wentz episode is an example of it, but Wentz drove that situation, essentially forcing their hand with a trade. While it wouldn't surprise me if the FO did something different here, I'm inclined to believe that they really do plan to give Hurts one more year to prove himself. In either case, it's the logical thing to do here, so I'd bet on that logic winning out in the end, unless some irresistible opportunity arises to acquire an elite QB not named Watson.

This is the second big pass that he missed by vacating the pocket to the left early.  Brian Baldinger tried to put the play on Reagor, but he was wide open and Hurts blew the play.

Remember, there have been multiple coaches try to fix his QB issues over the past 6 years.  He isn't getting it.

What a disappointing article.

Dak Prescott's brutal loss may have been the worst thing to happen to hurts on Sunday.  Dak is supposed to be Hurts' ceiling, so to watch him flounder in the playoffs put a huge dent in hurts as a long term answer.

They've done it a lot actually.

Reid committed to Kolb as starter, then a few days later named Vick the starter.  Doug said his coaches would be back, a couple days later they were fired.  Howie said Bradford was the starter and Wentz would sit as a rookie, then traded Bradford and started Wentz.  Reid famously said "we're fine there" about many positions and then would make changes.  Howie said a few years ago he wasn't going to sign any band-aid free agents to short term deals but build through the draft...then signed short term deals of 1 or 2 years with stop gap free agents.  Said he was going to get younger and learned his lesson from trying to retain the SB team, then extended veteran contracts with extremely long year terms.

So we'll see what happens with Hurts.  Howie has always said he's open to upgrades or trades and listening to offers so you never know.

Hurts' ceiling is nowhere near Dak, IMO.

I’m not entirely sure if this kid has a ceiling.

I know that sounds utterly ridiculous to some of you. I understand.

Thats where I am at. It sucks, but its the best move going forward. Roll with Hurts, and build this team right. If we do that, we only need the final piece to make us a contender. I would love to see a 2:1 ratio (defense:offense) the early-mid rounds in this years draft.

Of course it isn't but people are impatient and just want blood. They don't believe that hard work, self criticism/scouting and some semblance of consistency will ever help someone get better. They either are or they are not. That is it.

There were a lot of fans that whined about the Eagles wasting a draft pick in the 7th round on a rugby player that never played football before and that there was no way he could ever learn how to be a OL in this league. That the Eagles were wasting their time on him and it was a stupid pick.

So you are saying that it is impossible for anyone to work on their physical skills and become better?

Not arm talent.  You either have it or you don't.

What exactly is 'arm talent' in your opinion?
