Jalen Hurts - shoulder sprain injury; expected for playoffs

Some people are wishcasting Hurts to be a good TOP tier QB. For all sorts of reasons.

1) It would be the best thing for the Eagles to already have their QB for the future- could spend all their efforts building a team around him

2) He seems to be a likable, "good guy"

3) Some like he has "swag"

4) Some love the highlight reel run threat potential

5) Small number may be racially motivated? Rooting for a good guy minority, I get that.

But the bottom line is, he just doesn't have the ability to be a top tier QB in the NFL. He has athletic ability, (only get you so far) but he lacks the read/recognition and porocessing ability POST SNAP.  He will get better, but his ceiling is low. I doubt he can improve enough in this area, or he would have shown you signs he was improving.

Here is a very unpopular opinion but is based on reality:  Wentz and Hurts floors are about the same right now, Wentz just has a higher ceiling (not saying he will ever reach it) But we have seen Wentz play at a top level, so we know he is capable, we have never seen Hurts be any better than he is right now.  No I would not settle on either. And frankly Wentz costs you more, but his upside is higher than Hurts, we just may never see it again.  Thats just the reality of their abilities and QB play.

One way to look at it.

Here another: In his first year as a starter under a new HC in a new system he got us to the playoffs. He then was weak against the reigning champions. He will be better next year.

Will he be good enough? We‘ll see.
But stop with that low ceiling please. That‘s just hot air.

Doesn’t matter who’s the QB if the Oline can’t block, the WR’s can’t get open, the coaches can’t coach and the GM can’t identify talent.

  • So we had to listen to an entire week of "He runs too much".   What will the talking points be this week?  Jalen and this Team can win in multiple ways.  Stop trying to put him in some box where he on

Here another: In his first year as a starter under a new HC in a new system, the team took the ball out of his hand and beat some of the worst teams in the league in spite of him in the second hald, and he rode that to the playoffs.

If only it ever was so easy to cruise to wins in the NFL. But hey whatever fits your narrative.

It is easier when you rely on the strength of your team.  Take the ball out of the QB's hands and limit his passing, which is his primary job.

So our team was so strong it carried a bad QB to the playoffs? That‘s how it was last season?

Reading comprehension.  We took the ball out of the QB's hands to beat a bunch of bad teams.  We beat bad teams in spite of Hurts, not because of him.

Reading comprehension. What you just said is exactly that. QB was bad, but the team was so damn good we made the playoffs anyways.

Well, glad you cleared that up. And people thought we had holes everywhere..

Well lets just say, we dont agree. I have watched enough Hurts to see his ceiling is not that high.   When you study his game, he had almost zero progression in reading and reacting post snap. Certain teams took advantage of this others did not. The Tampa game displayed it perfectly. Made him all but ineffective. They stopped the run, and forced Hurts to beat them, and what they did was not show what defense they were in till after the snap. This exposed all of Hurt's issues. These are the same issues he had coming out of college.

For the umpteenth time, we made the playoffs because the NFL wanted more revenue from an extra playoff game being played, so they unnecessarily added a 7th seed. The state of Pennsylvania had no business being in the playoffs last year and their game results showed why.

Exactly. Yet that didn't stop a portion of the fan base from clamoring for Feeley even though every single aspect of the offense was statistically worse during that stretch where he filled in.

Those people were probably tired of McNabb's schtick.  Familiarity breeds contempt.

That doesn't mean Hurts is better than anyone

... and that isn't even what we're talking about. People assume players such as Wilson and Watson saying they wouldn't waive their no trade clause to go to Philadelphia is a knock on Howie, when it could very well be a knock on the fans, the city, the climate, or simply proximity to a location they prefer. But I was asking why a franchise QB would look at the fan base here and feel it would be welcoming after the way a portion treated McNabb, Wentz, and now Hurts.

You’re digging deep here bud. Philly fans don’t like hearing about how they could be the problem. It’s McNabb’s fault they don’t like him despite them booing him on draft day, or them ripping his mom. They are innocent! 😂 All joking aside they’re are plenty of reasons why these guys don’t want to come to Philly, but that doesn’t mean Howie and more importantly this roster, the lack of salary, the fans and other reasons you mentioned aren’t in play. That’s what people don’t seem to get. Who wants to come to a franchise that isn’t a quarterback away from anything with little to no capspace or improve? The Eagles are in a bind and despite their narrative of being good the rest of the NFL doesn’t see that. You really think Wilson wanted to come here with some dope in the stands berating his wife and kids cause he made a bad pass? Don’t think so.

Hurts Haters, get f***ed!

Adam Schefter: "Its Tracking For Jalen Hurts To Be The QB of the Eagles This Season”

ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter joined the John Kincade Show for his weekly hit (normally 8:10 but Schefter was busy so he was on at 8:40). Schefter is a busy man with NFL free agency kicking off this week and the Eagles have already made their first big splash signing the pride of Temple University Haason Reddick to a 3 year deal. So whats next?

"They made calls on (safety) Marcus Williams but it didn’t work out. I don’t know if the honey badger fits the profile of what they look for. And so now you’re looking at other options & the draft.”

Schefter was then asked about the elephant in free agency the room Deshaun Watson and if there is anything connecting the Houston QB to the Eagles

"No reason to check in. Nothing to see here. We can move on.”

So if not Watson, is there any other QB that could interest the Eagles?

"I dont see a QB out there that gives them a much better chance to win this season than Jalen Hurts. Its tracking for Jalen Hurts to be the QB of the team this season”

Hurts is going to be the starter because other moves didn't work out. I don't think he's going to be the starter because the team have faith in him.

Did we? The rumor mill has been churning into this week. Either way, Schefter is more reliable than most.

Well then anyone who isn't delusional knew this.

That's a small group among Eagles fans.  Delusion, denial, rationalizations and more are the life blood of Eagles nation.

We have a QB on the roster who gives us a better chance than Hurts

Minshew Munchers are a real trip

Can't wait to watch Hurts suck some more next season

See this is why all these people need to stop crying about Hurts. If trash bag players like Wentz and Mayfield can call their own shots there’s no reason to worry about quarterback. At some point another one will come available. Eagles need to stay the course and improve this team.

Browns tried trading for Watson, how is Baker trash asking for a trade after that? Lol
