Jalen Hurts - shoulder sprain injury; expected for playoffs

No excuses now. And they just gave 100 million to a receiver. Siri  Lurie is going to make him throw the ball.

FYP.  Lurie wants an explosive offense, pass plays, scoring and QB play.  He's said that for years.  You're correct though as many have said, there are now zero excuses for Hurts in year 3 with the weapons he'll have.

Doesn’t matter who’s the QB if the Oline can’t block, the WR’s can’t get open, the coaches can’t coach and the GM can’t identify talent.

  • So we had to listen to an entire week of "He runs too much".   What will the talking points be this week?  Jalen and this Team can win in multiple ways.  Stop trying to put him in some box where he on

To expect hurts in his third year to have the same output as tannehill in his 10th year is ridiculous.

Are we expecting tua to have as many yards as Tom Brady too?

of course he has to improve and if he doesn’t then he’ll lose his starting qb role next year. I’m sure he knows this and hopefully can do something about it.

How is it ridiculous? Plenty of QB's have had better numbers in their second year let alone their 3rd. It literally happens every year

Word is that the Titans basically offered Brown the same contract given him by the Eagles. So in other words something else made him want to leave one of the best teams in the NFL. In short Hurts put him over the top. So much for that "nobody wants to play with the quarterback” narrative. Anyways get back to your crying and whining fellas .

Yeah I wouldn’t mind throwing to this guy of Reagor too. 😂

Or not.  But we get it, you're a Hurts fanboy.  Give it a rest already.

But is it?

"Speaking to NFL Network's James Palmer, general manager Howie Roseman said Hurts has been "whispering" in the ear of Eagles management about acquiring the star wide receiver. "

According to all of you they have been desperately trying to get rid of this guy, but here we are the Eagles are going after players Hurts wants. Anyways get back to your whining. 😀

lol.  You get your panties in a twist anytime someone doesn't join you in being a pop-pom waiving cheerleader for Hurts.

Ok, you're right.  I'm sure the only reason AJ wanted to come to Philly is because your hero superstud Hurts is the qb here.  Is that better fanboy?  🙃

Can we expect him to have the same numbers as Burrow in year 2?  What about Mac Jones in year 1?

Maybe we should expect Josh Allen level numbers... after all, he's the guy that folks point to constantly to talk about the ceiling for Hurts.  Well... year 3 is 4500 yards, 36 TDs.

Exactly how low are we going to put the bar for Hurts?

Lots of QB's left!

Yup, Howell and Strong as well.

I'm not surprised by Howell to be honest.

Buster's Blog: Low Bar

We're raising the bar this year for Hurts by one iota.

We have to be fair. His bar should be equal to all other 3rd year rookies.

Agreed.

I think this post sums up what we should expect from Hurts this year.

Hurts now has no excuses, and needs to have at least Ryan Tannehill production.  He is not an upper echelon QB, so I do not think expecting this from Hurts is unreasonable.

And before the Hurts Huggers start in on "but his rushing" Tannehill ran for 266 yards and 7 TD's in 2020.

That is almost 4100 total yards and 40 TD's in 17 games.  That is with Derrick Henry rushing for 2027 yards while leading the league in carries, by more than 100 over 3rd place, for the #2 rushing offense in the NFL.

In terms of expectations for Hurts that would make me not want to jump headfirst into trading for a 2023 QB, I believe the following would have to be bare minimum*:

3800 yards passing

2.5 to 1 TD/INT ratio

65% cpt

35 combined TDs

10 wins

*Subject to how much of the production is resulting of garbage time stats.

These are pretty good benchmarks. For me, the top 5 qbs generate around 5,000 yards, 40 TDs and 15 turnovers. Last year Hurts (projected over a 17 game season) generated about 4,000 yards, 30 TDs and 15 turnovers. Adding AJ Brown should help a lot. So I expect him to at least be in the ballpark of a top 5 qb. IMO He has a top 5 oline and a top 5 group of weapons. It's go time for him. If we don't have a top 5 offense, the reason is pretty clear.

2.5 to 1 TD/INT ratio   (16 throwing TD to 9 INT last year, 2.5 to 1 ratio is a stretch)

65% cpt                         (61.34% cpt last year,  maybe 62 to 64% this year, 65% maybe)

35 combined TDs        (26 combined TDs next year, 35 is a stretch)

10 wins                          (8 last year, Minshew got one. maybe 10)

Lots of stretch goals. I put Hurts 2021 numbers in (parentheses)

I would like to see him be able to read a defense and throw when the other team is shutting down the run. That would be the goal.

Can he start throwing the ball further downfield, beyond 3 yards? I understand we should have plenty of check downs and screens, but he's gotta stand in that pocket more and throw it downfield. Go through progressions. Step up in the pocket. Make plays downfield or throw it away.

If he can't do those things, he is in for a long year.

If he does these things and improves as a technician, then missing on a couple of those stretch goals probably won't matter.

But the questions will remain, will the Eagles draft QB in 2023?

What does Hurts need to do to convince the Eagles and maybe even get extended?

This is why I do not understand the "as long as he's improving" rationale.  No one wins SBs for improving.

There is a giant chasm between Hurts improving in these aspects (or even developing the ability to perform some of these tasks) and actually being good at them.

And those numbers posted means he would have to make a pretty big jump to be as good as Ryan Tannehill, and he isn't knocking on the door of the Super Bowl any time soon.

Funny how that works right? We heard all off-season how WRs didn’t want to come to Philly because of Hurts.

Turns out, one of the best young WRs in the game wanted to come to Philly because of Hurts.

Hopefully you’re enjoying this off-season fellas and are praying for health!

And funny how the Eagles didn't give Wentz the same level of influence in 2020.
