I wasn't a fan of his after the rookie season. His numbers didn't justify keeping Wentz (who was clearly having a bad season) on the bench. The week 1 performance last season had me feeling good about his future, but then he lost me again the next few games. But, in my eyes, he improved in the following weeks enough that I am confident he's an improving young passer.

I don't know where you've derived his bad "attitude" from.

The two incidents that immediately come to mind was when he was asked about the gurus working on changing his mechanics he scoffed at the question and said nah....he isn't self aware of his weaknesses or doesn't see the problem... The other was when asked about his tendency to roll right often, he said he is just running the plays that are called....anyone who watches the film can see that was a choice and not by design aka he isn't willing to accept accountability

It may be just moments of lapse judgement, but I tend to trust people when they tell me who they are

Doesn’t matter who’s the QB if the Oline can’t block, the WR’s can’t get open, the coaches can’t coach and the GM can’t identify talent.

  • So we had to listen to an entire week of "He runs too much".   What will the talking points be this week?  Jalen and this Team can win in multiple ways.  Stop trying to put him in some box where he on

Main flaw in this analogy is that your 16 stays a 16 regardless, while an actual player can improve.

Yea, it’s not perfect, why I included as it stands today. I’ve heard the argument (mostly from beat writers) that "even if he stays the same player how do you move on from him?” which is just something I don’t understand.

Will this be the game where Jalen Hurts lays a turd of a game on us?

Like the Giants game…

I don't think so and even if he did I wouldn't immediately sling mud. Now....if they run tampas scheme and he doesn't respond well, I will raise an eyebrow because this isn't the team that should give him trouble

Let's see who uses excuses after week 1. I predict the excuses will be along the lines of, "But that was against Detroit who is not a playoff team."

Is it really an excuse though?

Most of us are aware that Hurts at the very least is capable of being a QB that can beat bad teams and at worst fight for a playoff spot. He needs to start beating good teams.

He beat the 12-4 Saints in his first start. He beat them again at 9-8 so they missed the playoffs and the Eagles went instead.

He could go 13-4 this year without beating a good team. He could have MVP numbers and not beat a good team.

Would he still be bad?

Did Wentz beat a good team in 2017? (85% of LA?) 2018? They got the number 1 seed by going 1-2 against good teams. (KC, Seattle, LA)

Did he beat 4 or 5 good teams his entire Eagles career? In 68 starts.

He beat the 12-4 Saints without their starting QB. If you're going to diminish what Wentz did against LA, it goes both ways. The Saints we beat last season were down to their third QB and had issues with COVID.

He needs to beat good teams. Good teams are in the playoffs. I'm not impressed with him beating the Lions. He should.

Not sure what Wentz has to do with it, but we all know his many faults and why he isn't here.

How good does Hurts have to be for this ţeam to win a playoff game? Or 2...?  Can it be done with him managing games and running like crazy, or do we NEED him to actually be a say.... top 12 QB?

How many times did he complete a pass?  How many times did he run?

My biggest issue with Hurts is that his style is unsustainable.

Using the Saints, the only 'winning' teams that the Eagles have beaten with him at QB (ignoring who their QBs were in those games, though it really does matter), he's rushed more times than he's completed a pass.

2021 - 17 completions, 18 rushes.
2022 - 13 completions, 18 rushes.

He runs too much and takes too much punishment in doing so.  And as for the Josh Allen comparison that keeps floating around...  Allen runs, and I hate it when he does it too.  He doesn't need to run to be successful.  Honestly, I can't figure out why the Bills coaches call so many read options for him.  Let him be the passer he is.   Meanwhile, Hurts absolutely needs to run in order to be successful.   And of course, that's why his biggest defenders always point to 'total yards' and 'total TDs'.

The issue with Hurts isn't what he is right now, it is what will he become.  Will he become a passer who has some escapability?  Or, will he, like so many runners before him, become a slower, less agile version of what he currently is, and become increasingly less effective?  And the biggest question of all looming over this entire discussion... is he worth $40M/year, which is the going rate?   As of right now, the answer for me is an unequivocal and emphatic "no".  That can change... but he needs to prove it with his play on the field to earn that type of contract.

I agree with this. Last year, though, we were not a very good team. So as a bad team, we beat other bad teams, which is a good sign. It would be much more concerning if we lost to those teams. This year, we have more talent --- especially on defense. The team should be able to beat any team in the league on any given week. The expectations are higher.

And he needs to loose that cocky attitude/chip on his shoulder until he does.

For the love of God please have a great game

overall an OK game from him, imo. Defense and conservative playcalling on offense almost cost us.

It became conservative because they don't trust him.

He needs to learn to step up in the pocket. He was getting creamed even when he was sliding. He should also know what to do when there's a blatant blitz

Ignored, goodbye moron

Hurts was 18 completions on 32 attempts, 243 yards.

0 TD 0 INT

17 runs for 90 yards

1 rushing TD

I’m not impressed.

HE RAN FOR ONE OMG 31 POINTS 85 BEARS RENT WAS DUE!

What a joke. He was bad. Not garbage, but bad. Hasn't changed at all.

I think this was the biggest thing. Where was the improvement that he's been working on all offseason they we kept hearing about?
