Best thing he ever did was catch a fluke ball deflected off a knee against the Falcons.

He was terrible.

Doesn’t matter who’s the QB if the Oline can’t block, the WR’s can’t get open, the coaches can’t coach and the GM can’t identify talent.

  • So we had to listen to an entire week of "He runs too much".   What will the talking points be this week?  Jalen and this Team can win in multiple ways.  Stop trying to put him in some box where he on

I don't mean to interrupt a QB argument here, as I have no interest in defending Wentz ever since 2019.  But let's not call Torrey Smith a top end burner.  He sucked here.  Legitimately terrible.  Worst starter on the SB offense by a mile.

If you only pay attention to stats, then yes he sucked here. However his role was designed to be a deep threat and to keep defenses honest. By keeping the safeties back it opened up the underneath pass and helped the run game. He was a veteran that was known around the league as a deep threat and his speed was taking into account on every play he was in.That helped the team overall.

Jalen's Trophy Case at his High School.  I know his family is so proud of him and they will be there tonight to watch him in Houston.

He was horrible the year before he came here, horrible here, horrible the year after he was here, and then out of the NFL.  The only thing he kept back was our offense.

A piece on Jalen Hurts here in UK newspaper/website The Guardian - https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2022/nov/02/jalen-hurts-from-back-up-to-leader-of-the-eagles-quest-for-perfection

They do cover the NFL, but it's not especially common to have whole features on a single player, unless it's a Brady/Rodgers type where there is a supermodel/Jeopardy kind of angle, so he is definitely starting to cut through.

If you look at the whole picture - Where he was on the 49ers in Chip Kelly's offense after he was dismissed by the Eagles, where his QB was Colin Kaepernick, and that he suffered a major concussion which knocked him out of a bunch of games, then that could explain why his numbers were low.

If you only want to look at only stats, then sure, you are right. I understand that stats and only stats matter to some people.

Are we still talking about Torrey Smith ??

He played for Carolina AFTER he was dismissed traded by the Eagles.

OK?

Nobody is talking about what he did AFTER he left the Eagles.

I was talking about Chip Kelly! Probably should have rearranged that sentence better.

Yeah, his situation with Chip Kelly was before the Eagles.

Is 32 of 32 teams telling him that he didn't belong in the NFL 1 year later a statistic?

He decided to hang it up. Even the Eagles called him again in 2019 and he said, "no thanks." Story

Revisionist history. Defenses absolutely accounted for Smith and the threat he posed. Everything underneath was opened up. The biggest mistake Howie made was dumping Smith and his $5M / year contract for Wallace (who was injured right away, never catching a pass) and then later bringing back DJax who was injured for most of 2 seasons. The absence of a legitimate deep threat was detrimental to Wentz' QB style and we saw what happened as the offense struggled to regain 2017 magic and regressed each season.

Torry Smith was a retread off the scrap heap cut by the 49ers for a lack of production. Come on now.

The other "deep threats" they brought in were also retreads who were at the end of their careers as well.

Nobody said he was some kind of super star for us, but to completely discount his importance to what we did that year is ignorant. From 2018-2020 we didn't have a legitimate deep threat that defenses respected (outside of a couple healthy games from DJax) and our passing game was less efficient with the same QB.

What is with this place in needing your QB to succeed with absolute crap to prove they are good?

What’s with this place judging a guy before he even gets a chance?

Torrey Smith? You all will argue about anything. 🤣

The Eagles called Jordan Matthews in 2019 too.

I don't think I can give hurts 40+ million a year.  I just don't think he's that good to take up that much spaceman.  I'd rather draft a replacement this year let hurts do his thing and trade him for mucho draft assets.

Tough call right now.  He's playing well most games and leading the team well.  He's checked off some boxes this year, but a big one will be a playoff victory (or more).

Completely agree. And they can't give him a contract until after the year so they have time to continue to evaluate him. But he's been very very impressive this year.

Not a horrible game by any means, but definitely not as clean and crisp as you'd hope. Probably a fair expectation for a Thursday road game. Now let's go sweep Washington.
