Ehh, Hurts was kinda good last night. Not good enough, obviously. Bad calls, poor Defensive execution lost last nights game, IMO.

Need a really good game from him next week. Colts be like playing inspired for their new HC. And they will RUN RUN RUN the ball. 

I didn't see anything from Hurts to give me cause for concern. The turnovers were freakish, and nobody told Gannon that WAS were either going to run it or pass to McLaurin (courtesy of some beat reporter whose name I forget). Just one of those nights where all that could go wrong, did go wrong. I'm not worried about Jalen at all.

The games this team has had issues with this season are the ones that they force the other team to abandon the run. Teams have now caught on to running up the gut, cutting back and making quick passes.

It's a major concern and many people just ignore it because "8-1"

This game was very similar to what Pittsburgh did to us in the regular season of 2004. We were 7-0, played the Steelers and they controlled the clock, keeping our offense off the field and exposing our defense's liability. 

Time of possession:

Eagles --- 18:11

Steelers - 41:49

 

Last night:

Eagles --- 19:36

Commanders - 40:24

 

In the 2004 Super Bowl, NE used quick passes and runs to expose our defense. This is something that needs fixing if the Eagles want to make a serious postseason run.

I don't know who the leader on defense will be in the future, but we don't have one right now. It's hard to expect that one of the current starters will all of a sudden turn into a leader, so ... yeah ... we need to hope that someone else that gets a shot will step up. 

 

As for the pessimism, I've always admitted that I don't post in game threads during games because I'm susceptible to negativity when things don't seem to be changing. My post game threads should probably have a disclaimer (Warning: slight overreaction). I'm not trying to put this on Hurts, but I am pointing out that he hasn't been satisfied with any game in its entirety and as the team's leader, has expressed that every week --- yet this team hasn't responded with a great all around performance. Why? Maybe they just aren't capable or maybe they can't be motivated. It's a concern because we seem to be "all in" this season with a lot of questions to answer after the season is over.  

So, I'm not really happy this week after losing to a garbage team at home. Don't worry, I probably won't post much this week. There's nothing to defend. 

Make sure you vote for him in the Pro Bowl, among other Eagles players like Safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson whom still leads the league in INTs!

There isn't even the slightest possibility the Eagles move on from Hurts and start again.  He's the most exciting QB the Eagles have had since McNabb in his prime and he's on his rookie contract through next season. Add in their stack of draft capital and this team is built to contend for the next decade.

Yeah he’s getting paid. I just hope he doesn’t force the Eagles into a ridiculous Rodgers/Watson contract that hurts our ability to add talent around him.

There are QBs who have played great in the regular season only to fail in the playoffs

That is my concern, although to be fair, it's a concern no matter who the QB is. I just worry about the future of the league the way these contracts are going.

There really is no next decade in the NFL anymore.  They could win a SB this year and be the NFLs most dysfunctional team and locker room by 2024.  Careers are too short and it’s too easy to both destroy a roster and catch lightning in a bottle with a transiently great roster.

Yeah agreed. They are getting out of hand and that’s nothing to do with Jalen. 
 

The one advantage we have is the extra picks we were able to leverage from the Colts/Dolphins/Saints.

Aside from a few nice pieces, our drafts have been pretty lackluster.

Yep - Hurts may save the 2020 draft yet, but there were some horrendous picks there, him and Watkins apart.

The D desperately needs more young talent before. Wouldn’t object at all if they went DE/DT/Secondary with their 2 firsts and second.

There is ALWAYS a possibility. I wouldn't expect the FO to resign Hurts until mid 2023 to an extension. Even though he has improved in some areas, he still has a lot to work on. They will not rush a contract like they did Wentz. They will use at least some of his final rookie season contract year to determine the direction they want to proceed in. Have to look at a lot of factors in a new deal and how it affects the team overall for the future.

If Jalen stays healthy and keeps playing roughly how he has been I’m pretty sure they sort it in the off-season. Don’t want it hanging over as an issue into the season.

Wentz contract was a mistake with hindsight. But there were injury flags and also in both years the team did as well or better with Foles.

There is a zero percent chance Hurts will sign an extension in the middle of the season next year if he is playing as well as he is right now.

I don't expect it to happen nor would I blame him if he asked for a ton of money, but I do hope that if we sign him he doesn't demand 40 million/year. 

To be honest, he doesn't seem like the type to cripple a team financially.

That's my thoughts too. Of course he's going to want to earn a lot of money but he strikes me as someone who wants to succeed and wants to help his team to succeed.

Well he is playing like a top 10 QB and the only QB in the top 10 not making 40 mil is Kurt cousins at 35 mil. So he is getting 40 mil at least even at a discount he still probably gets 40.

And there's the issue. He's playing great, certainly, but is he really worth 40/45 million?

I‘d be shocked if he has no extension before next season starts.
