Doesn’t matter who’s the QB if the Oline can’t block, the WR’s can’t get open, the coaches can’t coach and the GM can’t identify talent.

  • So we had to listen to an entire week of "He runs too much".   What will the talking points be this week?  Jalen and this Team can win in multiple ways.  Stop trying to put him in some box where he on

So many people are going to start hating football in the coming years. Colleges are producing more and more QBs like Hurts and the NFL game is going to gravitate more toward that style.

The NFL will be filled with QBs that use their legs as much as they use their arms. The days of the pocket passer are slowly dwindling away.

We've had QBs with running ability for a long time.  Even just on our team Cunningham, McNabb, Garcia to an extent, Vick.  We've heard the same talking points on both sides for years.  The running style QBs are going to take over, that's the future vs that type of QB doesn't win and you need a pocket passer.

The reality is the evolution has been for a while and it's more about balance and a dual threat, and QBs that play to their strengths.  There are changes to other positions as well.  Linemen are more athletic where they used to be just big fat guys.  The FB position went away.  Teams run more RPO.  They now call the position "EDGE rusher" and not just defensive end, defenses are no longer strictly 4-3 or 3-4 but can change up depending on personnel and the situation.  Players are more versatile with their skill sets like a WR who has RB skills and vice versa.  A lot has changed, and so have QBs.

What's funny is football started as a version of rugby and there was no passing.  There was a time the forward pass was controversial and took time to be embraced.  Now a QB NOT passing and running is a problem.

If you can do both, that's a good thing.  Hurts has proven to have success in both running and passing in various games.

Yup. Score points. That's his job.

Either way, it's the QBs decision making that makes or breaks him. Hurts is making the correct decision way more often than not, and he is doing so very quickly.

I agree.  he's in command of the offense, reading the defense and making good decisions.   It's a problem when a QB tucks and runs at the first sign of trouble, he doesn't do that.

This is all true.

And I agree.  One of the things I'd like to see more of... sliding and avoiding the hits in the open field.  AND, I'd like to see the coaching staff help him in that regard.  1st and goal yesterday from the 3, they run a QB draw... he gets plastered by one defender, held up and then 3 or 4 more come over.   The very next play, they call a QB sweep, basically.   Granted, they scored and he went in untouched.   But, I'd have preferred they not immediately go to the QB run play on the 1st and goal.  Why not try to pound it in with Miles?  He's been very good at that this year.  I'm just not a fan of the hits he's taking.  I would like to see this season continue and each hit he takes is a chance that that's the end of this ride.

I'd add... a play in the 4th quarter (Maybe late 3rd) included a safety (#47) rolling up Brown's ankle and playing dirty.  The very next play was a designed QB run.   The Eagles were up 18 at that time.  There was no reason to call any designed QB runs at that point in the game.  Let him hand it off and stay out of harm's way at that point.

I think a lot of their offense uses the threat of Hurts running, so they like to show it a lot. Tennessee was basically playing defense with 10 guys on a lot of the plays yesterday, when they used a spy, that player was just standing in the middle of the field watching most of the game lol.

There are times to show it... and then, IMO, there are times to put it in your back pocket.  Late 3rd quarter, up 18 and the Tennessee offense doing nothing... it needs to be pocketed.   1st and goal?   Pocket it.  Let it be a threat with an RPRO... but don't run him into the heart of their defense.  They were stacked in pretty tight on that 1st and goal play.

I'm not disagreeing. I've noticed something 2 or 3 times this season, that when they were up big in the second half they started using new formations and plays. They did it this week with that odd bunch formation two plays in a row. I guess the coaching staff likes giving their upcoming opponents as much to prepare for as they can.

I understand that... including the crazy reverse flea-flicker, which was probably put in there for either Dallas and/or the Giants.

I just don't want my QB running when we are up 18 as a part of the design of the offense... especially after I watched a defender make a dirty play on AJ Brown on the previous play.  Just not worth it.

Dak trying his best to get into the MVP discussions.

Dak’s been throwing a lot of weird picks this year, he’s averaging an INT a game. I think that will prevent his serious candidacy. Not to mention he missed 5 games; Wentz lost his MVP by missing only 3. And then there’s TB, easily the worst game any MVP candidate has had all year.

I believe he will be the MVP favorite going forward.

Yeah, unless we start dropping games or they do, at this point it’s either Hurts or Mahomes. I do think Hurts has the edge due to having the best record, the turnaround from 2021, and media perception(which I think has a big impact on this)

On my betting app - Mahomes is 1/1 and Hurts is just behind at 8/5.

I think Hurts would win if it finished today, particularly given that Mahomes has lost to his 2 main rivals, Allen and Burrows.

I think Mahomes would win it as he's the NFL darling. I'm not saying he isn't a great player, we all know he is, but it's also a lot to do with popularity.

Not bad for a running back….

Wow! Just wow. This kid has got it.

Also has to do with production and performance. If Hurts keeps winning and being the main reason why his team is winning I don’t see how he can’t win it. If he takes out the Giants twice and the Cowboys twice when they’re both basically playoff teams how can he not win it when Mahomes and Allen have less wins?

Mind you he’s still just 24! Most NFL players don’t even reach their potential until about 26 which means he still has room to grow. Could you imagine if all these internet GMs got their say and traded for Wilson right now? This kid would be throwing bombs to DK while were are stuck in purgatory with Wilson and Reagor while Seattle had all of our picks.

I mean look I didn't think Hurts was going to develop and play at this high a level. I've had my doubts about him and I'm sure we all have. But I was very much against the move for Wilson. That one had red flags for sure.

I didn’t want either of the three (Rodgers, Wilson, or Watson), because I knew this team wasn’t a quarterback from anything and I wasn’t ready to simply write off Hurts. The Eagles are good right now, not only because of the improvement of Hurts, but also due to the fact they were able to draft and sign players also. None of that happens if they went after any of the other three guys.

Highest regular season win %’s in Eagles history, minimum 20 starts:

Nick Foles 21-11 .656

Mcnabb 92-49-1 .652

Jalen Hurts 20-11 .645

Rodney Peete 15-9 .624

Randall Cunningham 63-43-1 .594

Hurts will tie Foles with an identical record if he wins this week

Never will understand why Dip Kelly wanted so bad to dump Nick Foles.

A picture is worth a thousand words. How about 2 numbers?  11-1.

24. And Smith turned 24 last month. And Brown is 25.. I just can’t get over it. Pure joy.

One thing I liked, which might have just slipped under the radar..

He had a tipped pass at the line on a dump off to the back. Very shortly after, same type of idea, but he added a little bounce and loft to the ball so that Gainwell could snag it and get the first.

Might seem dumb, but, given his height he needs to be aware of these things.

Good job on that.
