Jalen Hurts - shoulder sprain injury; expected for playoffs

The tweet posted wasn't about total carries, it was about number of games with 17 or more carries so that's what I responded to.

I know, just giving you career highs, and Allen's is to high, Wilson's is to high, and Jalen's is absurdly to high.

Doesn’t matter who’s the QB if the Oline can’t block, the WR’s can’t get open, the coaches can’t coach and the GM can’t identify talent.

  • So we had to listen to an entire week of "He runs too much".   What will the talking points be this week?  Jalen and this Team can win in multiple ways.  Stop trying to put him in some box where he on

Wait.  You think he ran too much because of the cold?   Was it too cold for the running backs to run?  What does cold have to do with anything?   He threw for 300 yards.  He ran too much because the coaching staff and Jalen screwed up. And they look really dumb now.  I hope they all learn from it.  But if they don’t, expect him to get hurt again and again and again.  Same can be said for Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen and any other QB who acts like a RB all too often.

I don’t believe anyone is saying the Eagles should have passed more.  I would have rather seen the RB’s get those carries.  There’s a reason why RB’s have a short shelf life in the NFL and their contracts have shrunk by comparison.  It’s because they don’t last.  You ask your QB to play like that, their not gonna last either.  Now both Jackson and Hurts has gotten hurt, each of the last two seasons.  It’s only a matter of time before Allen gets knocked out.  And eventually that is what’s gonna happen.  Knocked out.  Allen puts his head out there all too often on running plays.  It’s inevitable.

Because of the cold ground and taking hits, which people in here said as criticism for why Hurts shouldn't have run as much.

I also said he should have run less, the RBs get more carries.

QBs get hurt in the pocket too, or scrambling trying to make a throw.  Injuries happen.  When you have a QB like Hurts he's going to run.  He was smarter about it most of the year then ran too much against the Bears when it wasn't necessary.

Yeah, the injury was way overblown. His throwing is unaffected, and by the time we get to Saturday pain might not even be an issue.

That is gamesmanship.  You want him to come out and say he can't play ??

When the line moves from Dalles 5.5, get back to me.

Yeah I think it’s gamesmanship and I highly doubt he plays. We will see who will be taking the practice reps and what his status is when the injury report comes out. My guess is he will list as questionable furthering this idea that he might play, but likely won’t play. Sometimes teams need to protect players from themselves. Him getting a little bit longer to rest isn’t a bad thing.

Take it easy Mike. I think he plays Saturday, you firmly believe he will not. That's fine.

It is all but a confirmed fact he will not play.

Yeah, he should run a bit less and especially situational.  But he's a dual threat QB.  He's going to run.  He's not going to convert to a statue pocket passer.  Slicing and dicing all sorts of stats to make the case that he runs too much is pointless. Everyone knows he runs a lot.

I agree it's gamesmanship, just the other way around.

Vegas does not drastically move betting odds due to gamesmanship by NFL teams.

They know, it is there job to know, and they make bank because they know.

Running is fine on occasion. Sunday was stupid.

Like I said, that's fine. I'll believe it when I see Minshew taking the opening snap on Saturday.

If a 13-1 team feels the need to use reverse gamesmanship to beat an inferior team in a game that doesn't mean that much, there's a lot bigger issues at hand.

Wouldn’t it be better to play up his injury then? Make it seem like it’s highly unlikely he plays so they’re not preparing for him? As it stands the Cowboys are definitely going to prep for Hurts. They’re going to completely ignore Mishew especially since the last time they saw him they destroyed him and the Eagles. They’re setting themselves up to fail. I don’t know. I feel like if a less than healthy Hurts goes into this game the Eagles will run the same type of plays that got him injured to begin with.

Yep. I said that several times.

A less than healthy Hurts, yes. I just don't think that is the case. If he starts it's because the injury at that point has become a non-issue, and they will play their usual game.

I said it several + 2. I win

I replayed the play he was injured. There’s a loud yelping sound as he’s getting hit. You could see he was clearly down and had a hard time getting up. He doesn’t even have a full week to heal. I have a lot of doubt he plays this game. No it’s not nearly as big of an injury that was originally played up, but there is something there. Sprain are a pain in the butt to heal also.

Yep.  Get him healthy, then go get the Lombardi trophy.

I think the fact that his play after the injury and Siri's remarks today have confirmed that his throwing is unaffected is encouraging. At that point it's an aggravation and pain issue. The doctors will let them know about the former, I think the later is a game time decision.

I don’t think there’s much damage in the arm. He was out there slinging it, but the aftermath of the game he started to feel the pain.  It was enough to get further testing. Right now I do agree he’s hurt more than he’s injured, but the Eagles just held Goedert out of the Bears game for precautionary reasons. I don’t see how they do that and then risk Hurts on Saturday.

Completely different scenario.

The offense had performed great the last couple of weeks without Goedert. They knew they were likely to beat CHI without him.

We have no idea how things will go with Minshew.

He should be able to win a game, but he certainly does not give you a BETTER chance than Hurts.

The case to play Jalen as soon as possible is that you have not locked up the 1 seed.

You screw around and squander that bye and home field, you are not winning the Super Bowl.

So, if Hurts needs to sit this week fine. But, if they lose, they better be prepared to take the risk of playing him against NO.

Was it ever really "played up" by people with actual sources covering the story? There' was some random twitter accounts that just post whatever and hope it sticks, but from the beginning it was "his status might be in doubt" and the worst I saw was McLane saying "he might miss two weeks".

I’m not stating that Minshew gives them a better chance to win. I am stating that Jalen means a lot to the team and I don’t think they risk him in a scenario that isn’t must win. Can Minshew beat Dallas? Maybe. Can Minshew beat the Saints? Yes I think he can and if he can’t I believe Hurts can, because he always does. I have a hard time believing this team can’t win 1-3 games with or without Hurts especially with two of them being home games.

With this team, let Minshew beat the Cowboys, and then give Ian Book his revenge game against the Saints.
