The Eagles’s offensive line is no good.

Seriously, do the Eagles have the worst offensive line in the league? Every other team we play gives their QB’s some time while our QB gets chased by multiple rushers in the backfield after one or two seconds. And this has been going on for years. The owner doesn’t care. The front office doesn’t care. The coach doesn't care. Our QB’s can’t throw and get hurt,  and what, they think it’s funny or something? ...

What are you talking about?!

Both the O- and D-line have been the bread and butter for this organisation for decades. Although we could sure use some new pieces on the O-line, injuries have derailed the potential of the unit. Losing that many starters and quality depth would do that to any OL but a complete overhaul is not necessary IMO. Add one or two quality pieces in those middle rounds and we’ll be fine.

The OL hasn't been good this year but that's it. Other than that it's been a top 5 OL (and higher a lot of the time) for years now.

We've been so spoilt by OL play that this year has really been a struggle for us to watch as it isn't something we are used to.

And yes there are now concerns going forward about this OL. Can Lane stay healthy or is his body breaking down? Can Brooks come back from back to back Achilles injuries and play at a high level? Is Kelce going to retire? And long term what do we have between Dillard and Mailata?

But let's not overlook how much injuries have played a part this year. Something like 14 different starting OLs this year. Changes in pretty much every game due to injuries. But besides that Mailata has flashed, we do have a highly graded first round pick in Dillard to come back and guys like Herbig and Driscoll have shown they could be good back ups.

You can call it an excuse if it makes you feel better, but injuries happened all over the line all year and it totally derailed this offense.

The best guard in the NFL missed the whole season, but there is good news:

His backup had a chance to get better each week with experience:

Our starting LT, Dillard also got lost for the season just before it began. While he's still young and a bit of a mystery, that opened the door for Mailata to get serious playing time and he looks like a future star at LT:

Our starting RT never fully recovered from the ankle injury he suffered last year and tried his best to struggle through the pain. This time, it should be treated correctly with surgery. Last year's attempt to just give it time proved ineffective. Of the backups that filled in, Pryor was downright awful. But Driscoll showed tons of promise:

Our starting LG was hurt in week 2 and didn't return until week 11. He's solid.

Our starting Center, despite a nagging elbow injury suffered weeks ago, has managed to start every game, only miss a few snaps and play at a high level, earning another Pro Bowl invite.

Again ... injuries made things tough and kept the unit from forming any cohesion over the season, but there are more reasons to be hopeful moving forward  since we should be getting Brooks, Dillard, and Johnson back next year and their replacements (Herbig, Mailata, and Driscoll) are all much better players now than they were when 2020 began.

That's why Wentz was the NFL's most sacked QB. It's also a major reason why his performance this season was so poor. Getting hit and sacked that many times would have an impact on any QB.

Well let's see, we drafted Lane Johnson in the top 5 and have extended his contract twice. He's made a pro bowl and is widely considered one of the best RT in the NFL when healthy. At RG, we have Brandon Brooks, a multi-time pro bowler widely considered one of the best at his position. We made him the highest paid guard in the league in 2019 with his extension. Jason Kelce is the heart and soul of the offense and has made multiple pro bowls and all-pro teams. He's been the most consistent piece on our line over the years. At LG we've got Isaac Seumalo, he was a 3rd round pick in 2016 and a solid player. At LT we've had Jason Peters for a decade. We've given him multiple high-priced contracts over the years and he's rewarded us with pro bowl and all pro play. He's gotten old, so in 2019 we traded up in the first round to snag his replacement, Andre Dillard.

So yeah, we've put a significant amount of money and resources into the offensive line. It just so happened this year we got absolutely hammered by the injury bug at the position. It's unlucky, but it's not because we've neglected the position.

noob creates an account called oline...posts this topic here and copy/paste into IWTETG forum.  Complains the O line isn't helping the QBs.  Sounds like a friend of an Eagles QB complaining on his behalf.

We gotta draft all d in this draft.  This o-lines going to have to get and stay healthy next season.  That’s just where we are by neglecting the defense so long

You can't just hope that this OL can get and stay healthy though. That's partly what got this team in to this mess this year. Now I do agree the defense needs some major talent added but so does the offense. And this is an offense led league.

Exactly. Three starters on this OL are top 5 at their positions when healthy. Advanced metrics still have this OL as a league average group even with all the injuries.

But in the intermediate term, these injuries have to stop. This is an organizational flaw to be devastated by injuries for 4 years in a row. They could start the season with an All-Pro at every position and still end the season starting a bunch of practice squad guys and deep reserves.

I mean who knows how they get beyond all of these injuries. It isn't just the OL it is the entire roster and I'm not sure how they can turn that around. They have to find a way though.

It's a shame Pryor has been so unredeemingly awful, the other 4 spots have finally gotten their shite together.  Earlier in the year Mailata was getting eaten alive by every twist blitz coming his way, he's been much better after a few weeks next to Seumalu.  Really looking forward to see if he goes out on a high note versus Chase young.

Biggest issue this year with the Oline is cohesion issues due to all the injuries.  Even with talent its hard to be successful when you are on your 13th different lineup in 15 games.  They are struggling with the more complicated aspects of Oline play that require more familiarity (kind of like QB familiarity with a WR), like stunt/twist hand offs, blitz pickups, screen blocking, more complicated running schemes, etc etc.

I would like to see them add 1 to 2 Olinemen in the draft focusing on 1 G/C (I like Josh Meyers from Ohio State) and 1 G/T, (Mayfield from Michigain or Carman from Clemson).

They need an upgrade at LG and a replacement for Center when Kelce retires.  Meyers could play LG and then transition to Center when Kelce is done.

Last year's 2nd round pick could have been an impact player on D, instead of a wasted pick.

I wonder how many of those sacks are on Wentz for trying to extend plays. Hard for me to believe all of these sacks were due to the line and jail breaks or something.

Would certainly be interesting to know but I'm pretty sure it's a fairly significant number of them.

Not sure if Dillard is better than Mailata at this point.  Mailata got his game experience and is improving his skills.  Dillard has not impressed when he could play.  On the sideline does not help him getting better.  Hope he is using the time to get healthier and stronger.

That's not actually true. Dillard did well at LT, it was at RT that he was a complete disaster. I'm not saying Dillard is a legit long term LT but it's unfair to say he hasn't impressed at all.

Wholly crap! Brandon Brooks looks ripped like a linebacker instead of an offensive linemen.
