Milley called the Chinese general Li Zuocheng in October and January. On one call, he reportedly said, "General Li, you and I have known each other for now five years. If we’re going to attack, I’m going to call you ahead of time. It’s not going to be a surprise.”

If this is true, he should be removed from his position and court martialed.

I don't fault him for doing the right thing.

I do expect him to be held responsible for any illegal actions, regardless of reason;

There was nothing illegal about what he did. 12 other people were on the call and proper protocols were followed.

No, he really shouldn't

The official said the calls were not out of the ordinary, and the chairman was not frantically trying to reassure his counterpart.

The people also said that Milley did not go rogue in placing the call, as the book suggests. In fact, Milley asked permission from acting Defense Secretary Chris Miller before making the call, said one former senior defense official, who was in the room for the meeting. Milley also briefed the secretary’s office after the call, the former official said.

A Joint Staff spokesperson said all of Milley’s calls with his counterparts, including those with Chinese leaders, "are staffed, coordinated and communicated with the Department of Defense and the interagency.”

"His calls with the Chinese and others in October and January were in keeping with these duties and responsibilities conveying reassurance in order to maintain strategic stability,” said Col. Dave Butler.

I'm not familiar with military law or conventions, but saying there's a scenario where he would in the future warn china of an attack and then actually following through on it, are two different things. Also, while the geopolitical threat to us from China is higher than it is for any other country, we are still trading partners with them, so whatever tribunal would meet to decide his fate would most likely consider this situation far differently than if we were engaged in an active conflict with them, either by proxy or otherwise.

I am sure the call was legal. His words, I think, not so much.

12 other people on the call. Any of them could have reported it like they did with Trump's call.

That's a standard? It wasn't reported?

Its my standard. 12 highly ranking members of the department of defense are better equipped to handle the legality of and proper engagement with foreign military officials than a guy on a football message board. Well probably.

They’re already blaming the left for what they’re about to do.

READ: Trump lawyer's memo on six-step plan for Pence to overturn the election

Who needs that pesky ol' Constitution?

Howls, of course, from the Democrats, who now claim, contrary to Tribe’s prior position, that 270 is required. So Pence says, fine. Pursuant to the 12th Amendment, no candidate has achieved the necessary majority. That sends the matter to the House, where the "the votes shall be taken by states, the representation from each state having one vote . . . .” Republicans currently control 26 of the state delegations, the bare majority needed to win that vote. President Trump is re-elected there as well.

🤔🤔

Really. None of this is legal. It would have been overturned. Even VP Pence knew the plan was foolish. The goal was to create chaos around the typically ceremonial Jan. 6 counting of electoral votes.

Lmao. So they were looking for loopholes in our election process, kinda like they do when not paying taxes.

The House select committee investigating the storming of the U.S. Capitol building could authorize subpoenas for top Trump White House aides as early as this week, according to a report from The Guardian. Former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, ex-Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino and former Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale are named as three of the "likely targets” for a string of imminent subpoena authorizations. Several reports on the events of Jan. 6 place Meadows at Trump’s side as the former president’s supporters overwhelmed Capitol defenses, whereas Scavino had control over Trump’s social-media platforms. A spokesperson for the select committee declined to comment on The Guardian’s report, and the newspaper’s sources said plans are not yet finalized.

Pence didn't "know". He had to call Dan Quayle and ask him for his advice, who then proceeded to tell Pence there was nothing he could do. Whoever had "Dan Quayle saves American democracy" on their 2020 ish show bingo card wins the prize.

A worthwhile read. . . for some.

Essentially, it describes a hostile takeover of the US Presidency, by Republicans using undemocratic means. Create enough chaos that nobody knows how to proceed to the next administration. What the Trumpers have done goes against all tradition and precedent of peaceful transition of power after the election.

Thankfully, they were all too stupid to actually pull it off.

also, thanks to Dan Quayle. don't forget Dan!

That Pence even sought Quayle's advice tells us all we need to know. It's like a stranger telling you to chop your own dick off and rather than immediately telling the stranger to get F'ed, you instead consult your doctor to seek his medical opinion.
