If you’re using an originalist interpretation to say the amendment was intended to protect freed slaves, then it really wouldn’t apply to the children of legal residents. That in turn would throw a lot of children and presumably even adults into limbo. Any kind of carveout actually would be legislating from the bench. I suppose it would force congress to pass some kind of immigration bill, but it would certainly put all of the leverage in the GOP’s favor. I think this is going to be 9-0 against. The 14th amendment is clear, and a president can't overrule an amendment with an EO. I think this is an easy slam dunk.

Maybe this is like a free lottery ticket — take your shot in the dark, if you win great, if not, use it to force legislation or even an amendment like Vikas suggested. But I have a sneaking suspicion it’s not the slam dunk many seem to think it is. The right played the long game on Roe and won, perhaps they played the long game here as well.

Meh I don’t see how this is any different than writing an EO stating that warrants aren’t needed to perform home searches, or that people aren’t allowed to own guns anymore. It’s in clear contradiction to the constitution and will get struck down very quickly.
January 22Jan 22 Remember all immigrants are just looking for a better life 🙄 Four Chilean nationals have reportedly been arrested in connection with the recent burglary of Joe Burrow's $7.5million home. The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback saw his Ohio mansion 'ransacked' back in December and it has now emerged that the authorities have detained four men over the incident. According to TMZ , the group - who cops reportedly claim were 'illegally in the country or overstayed their permissions' - were found with LSU and Bengals gear which is suspected to have been taken from Burrow. https://share.newsbreak.com/b1eh4gzg?s=i16

Man, if you can play the long game and win against the constitution, I don’t know what the hell comes after that, but it won’t be good.

Both are / to be questioned by interpretation. We'll now see how the ammendment is interpreted. However, your admission to Roe V Wade being only a court ruling brings a tear of joy to my eye. 🫶
