I'd put both choices on the table and let the Repubs choose. Either they agree to a concise list of key red line items or it is complete shutdown with no way back. Let them decide.

No masks for ICE and required bodycams for sure is one that should be on the list of required items. The list should be concise but non-negotiable and should not be some short term thingy. Use it to reign in Trump so demand a War Powers resolution before anymore spending is passed, for example. Additionally, demand a strict restriction on Trump with regard to tariffs. A few key things like that which are supported by voters nationally in the polls. If the list isn't accepted then go full shutdown and don't budge. Finally, don't put some stupid left fringe crap thingy on there.

They are pushing hard now. Miller absolutely wants to go Insurrection Act and then Marshall Law down the road. Over the next months we shall see if Trump wants to go that route despite it being very unpopular generally to most citizens.

Again, there's no point. They don't hold to any agreements. They ignore the law. You're playing checkers and they're burning the house down.

You shutdown, you don't budge and you let him flail around and scream while everything gets worse for him. It's an illegitimate gov't who isn't following the Constitution. There's no reason to fund it, negotiate with it or try to improve it. He's already broken it. Let him own it.

The difference between what you are suggesting and what I'm suggesting is that I throw the hail mary while you just kneel down and let the clock run out. If I somehow complete it then we split the Repubs, look like the better guys, get key items in place, and go on the offensive. If my pass is incomplete I end up just where you are and that means the flailing and screaming for a while followed by the nuclear option. They money gets secured no matter what. Do you really think they won't go nuclear at this point?

Here's a compromise. I'd support Dems crafting a bill contingent on keeping the gov't open named after the 12 year old girl that one of the Jan 6th guys that Trump pardoned was arrested for raping the other day. The bill says that every man who was charged, convicted and pardoned for Jan 6th has to be chemically castrated. The media would talk about it constantly because it's pretty controversial and the right would have to defend child rape (which they're happy to do and participate in privately but publicly not so much) and everyone would be talking about how Trump let a bunch of child rapists out on the street and eventually the Reps would have to vote against it not to enrage the base and the shutdown would happen anyway. Deal?

It’s important that the bill’s clean and that it includes all the J6ers because it’ll force Reps to fight against it and it’ll force the media to point out that J6ers have are astronomically more likely to be arrested for child sex crimes than the general population. It also forces them to debate whether Trump needs to be castrated for the safety of the public even though he was technically never convicted. Finally it gives the left an opportunity to post gifs from Fight Club saying "We have to take your balls sir” under right wing posts defending child rapists, which may seem trivial but it’s important.
