Florida isn't a border state. At most they deal with the occasional raft that manages the trip from Cuba.

And both border patrol and national guard troops, who Abbott has ordered for his "Operation Lone Star" political stunt, are federally funded.

Texas gets federal tax dollars put into the pocket of Texas based border patrol and national guard, along with federal facilities to house migrants OR federal tax dollars pumped into local motels and hotels.

The whole premise is preposterous.

Yeah I doubt Florida has a problem with illegal immigration, you're probably right

Estimates are about 770,000 in Florida. Cuba isn’t in the top 5 of origin.

If only Trump could've finished his wall, then Florida wouldn't have to deal with all these illegals invading them.

After waving the pompoms for him for two pages, now we're suddenly back to Trump being powerless to change things. Maybe it's not the booze, maybe it's a mental condition like borderline personality disorder or something. Poor fella clearly needs some help.

So funny

TEW: we didn’t have these kinds of problems when Trump was in charge.  And then Biden gets into office and reverses all of Trump’s policies and boom, 2 million illegals coming our way!

also TEW: voting doesn’t matter.  It doesn’t matter who’s in charge, the problem will persist. That’s why I’m on board with silly political stunts that will cost the very people votes that are in the party that I previously claimed had put a stop to this.

So there's a lot of migrants hopping the Florida border to claim asylum?

I didn't ask which states had more undocumented/unauthorized immigrants. DeSantis' claim is that it's to highlight a border crisis.

Is there a border crisis in Florida I'm unaware of?

And FWIW there are more unauthorized immigrants in NY than FL according to your link, a comparably sized state much further from the southern border.

Acting like Texas is being left to deal with these asylum seekers and secure the border on its own is preposterous. They get buttloads of federal funding and support.

THOSE MIGRANTS SIGNED A CONTRACT!

There is a border crisis that is directly impacting Florida, thats the whole point.  You think all the illegal immigrants cross the border and just pitch a tent and stay there in Texas or wherever?

Southwest border crossings have exploded under Biden, these are just facts.   Those numbers above are from the Trump era so theyve probably doubled under the comatose president

Undocumented immigrant population in Florida 2016: 775k

Now: 772k

Experts don’t see a surge in undocumented immigrants in SWFL

Southwest border is not Florida.

This is a political stunt designed to draw attention away from issues Republicans are losing on - i.e. Roe and abortion rights - and move the focus of public debate towards a topic Republicans feel better about.

If DeSantis and Abbott were serious about fixing our immigration issues they would be going about it differently. But they don't WANT to fix it, because immigration continuing to be a problem is too much of a winner for them in elections.

Policy is no longer about solving problems. It's about setting the environment up so politicians can stay in office.

Republicans are not serious about working with Dems to fix the broken immigration system. It's all about scoring political points instead.

Do you not understand the difference between marginal improvements of a problem under different leadership and actually fixing the problem?

Two thirds of all illegals, cross legally.

Sorry to pour sand in your already moist panties.

Lol this has absolutely nothing to do with abortion any more than it does Bidens runaway inflation. Odd how this just so happened to start after Biden opened up the flood gates and illegal immigration skyrocketed.  Admit it and stop dancing around that fact.

And of course its intended to draw attention. That's the whole point, glad you caught on.  The point is to put left-wing politicians and their mouthpieces like you in the awkward position of having to explain around Bidens failures. And here we are.

Florida alone cant fix it.  Texas alone cant fix it.  Hello??  Thats the entire point theyre making.  So dense.

The dems idea of fixing it is full amnesty.  Its insane.

Not really, as it shows how stupid the "migrants flooding across our unprotected borders" and "a wall will fix it" BS truly is.

The only way to fix the problem is to punish Americans who hire illegals. The punishment MUST be more costly than the hiring of legal workers.

"Only if you don't count the darkies."

- KKKz probably

If 2/3rds of illegals are coming into the US legally, and just not leaving, the immigration crisis is not a border crisis.

Well according to you we didn’t have just "marginal” improvements under Trump.   According to you, things got SIGNIFICANTLY worse because of Biden.  It wasn’t until after I noted how this stupid stunt could hurt the GOP at the polls that you then pivoted to ‘well there was little Trump was able to do anyway, so the party in power doesn’t reach matter.  So yeah let’s just burn it all down and play these stupid games then’ mentality.

Just so we’re clear here, you realize granting amnesty to nearly 3 million illegal immigrants is what Reagan did in 86, right? Plus using executive authority to grant legal status to children, defer deportations, etc…

That’s what’s so funny about politics.  Things that were done by the GOP’s patron Saint are now viewed as extreme and insane.
And don’t worry, I know it goes both ways.  Go back and play old Clinton speeches on illegal immigration and he’d be characterized as a far right fascist by liberals today.

Marginal as in the change, dude.
