well it's safe to say that my next-door neighbors aren't skilled, so your point stands.

Improper Entry into the USA is a Misdemeanor for the first offense. Republicans treat it like it's the most serious felony crime one can commit.

§ 1325, makes it a misdemeanor offense subject to fine or six-month imprisonment for anyone entering the United States illegally.

Certainly, not the most serious offense one can commit. Genuine asylum seekers aside, they're all still subject to rapid deportation. All it takes is an order from the A.G. per 8 U.S. Code § 1227 - Deportable aliens

Ronald Reagan quote: Illegal immigrants in considerable numbers have become productive members of...

🥷🦅AP4Liberty 🇺🇲🥋 on Twitter: "Ronald Reagan on immigration. https://t.co/PU0HLZKSHq" / Twitter

The 1986 Amnesty was a total failure because it did not solve the border security issue. The idea was to have a one time solution — if you’re already here, you can stay, but from then on we were supposed to have robust border security and deportation.

But of course democrats are scumbags and reneged on funding the border security aspect of the plan, so all the bill did was create a giant incentive to break the law.

And nearly 40 years later we’ve had tens of millions of new illegal immigrants all of whom democrats want to grant amnesty.

Same thing that happened with the budget. He was supposed to get a 3:1 spending cut to tax increase ratio, but Democrats are pathological liars and snakes, and they didn’t do their part of the agreement.

Uh huh, and that's why Regan is a Rino. I guess Trump's wall didn't work as well.

Reagan isn’t a Rino, he was just naive about how the left are pathological liars with no intention of ever honoring their part of a compromise.

Seems to me, security at the border is the strongest it has ever been in US history. But' that's not good enough for Trumplicans. Their goal is the realistic level of Zero.

I'm constantly amazed at how aggressively retarded this dude is.

btw, the Biden admin forced the Arizona governor to remove the shipping containers in Arizona.

Quote

Arizona will take down a makeshift wall made of shipping containers at the Mexico border, settling a lawsuit and political tussle with the U.S. government over trespassing on federal lands.

The Biden administration and the Republican governor entered into an agreement that Arizona will cease installing the containers in the Coronado National Forest — the only national forest along the border — according to court documents filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Phoenix.

So not only is it completely retarded to pretend like four still-frame pictures are representative of the entire border, one of your pictures is completely irrelevant and outdated.

Depends what kinds of immigrants and when. Asians were prohibited from immigrating for periods. Racial quotas existed at times.

Quotas still exist but it’s per country.

1) to blame it on one party is just silly.  Republicans voted for those bills and a Republican President signed it.  This narrative of "Reagan wanted to cut spending, he really did!  He just happened to sign legislation that did the exact opposite, it’s not his fault!” Is just silly.  The same holds true for the narrative of "Reagan really wanted to solve the illegal immigration problem, it’s not his fault that he signed a bill gave amnesty to illegal aliens while not addressing the root cause of illegal border crossings”

2) "border security” is NOT the issue when it comes to illegal crossings.  We’re talking about a nearly 2,000 mile border.  So unless your plan is to have armed guards stationed every 1/2 mile along the border 24/7 plus about two hundred groups of active response teams roaming the border 24/7, then "beefing up the border” won’t do a damned thing to solve the illegal crossing problem.  Not to mention, that plan would be a very inefficient one and a huge waste of resources.

A much more efficient way to stop illegal crossings is to get rid of all incentives to come here illegally in the first place.  THAT’S the root cause of the problem, and unless you address the root cause of the problem, you’re not going to solve it.

what Vikas wrote out would solve our problem.  of course it makes too much sense so it will never be implemented.

There is a shortage of skilled workers, particularly engineers. I've posted some version of this before, but here is the real way to fix immigration.

1. End all government assistance and services for illegal immigrants -- not just welfare, food stamps, etc. -- no more drivers' licenses. No more finding ways to make it easier for people who broke the law to live here. Remove the incentives and comfort we have created. And if an illegal alien is arrested, deport them -- no more sanctuary cities.

2. Institute large fines for employers that hire illegals -- make the fine/punishment so massive that it overwhelms any potential cost savings. Implement e-Verify.

3. Reform legal immigration to a merit based system -- we need MORE immigrants as birth rates drop and the boomers retire. But we need to prioritize applicants with desirable skills and degrees, like engineers. Stop with the stupid equity based lottery junk and go back to the Cold War era merit based system.

4. End the drug war -- people are fleeing countries that have been taken over by narco terrorists. Legalize drugs and end the drug war, stop creating failed states and hell holes in Central America.

Of course, none of this will happen. But the solutions are all obvious and need to be implemented jointly.

While I'm not morally opposed to that (frankly, I'd support a saying the children of illegal immigrants aren't citizens but the children of legal immigrants are), it would require a Constitutional Amendment. While I know the 4 things I proposed are extremely unlikely, changing the 14th amendment is never happening.

Change the constitution.

People do realize the reason it’s so time consuming to become a citizen is because of illegals right? Doesn’t matter where they are coming from.

Did they give examples of how illegals slow down the process for legal immigration?
