Make drugs legal, limiting the money that goes to the cartel, allowing people to not fear for their life and build their own country. Or improve border security to the point that no one can enter or leave without being scanned. which option works best for you?

My first thought is the first option if those are the only two I can pick from. I'd also look to provide an easier path to working legally here.

Punish employers of illegals meaningfully, making it MORE expensive to hire illegals than legals. Nothing else will do a damned thing. People come legally, and don't leave. Unless you start assigning people to follow every immigrant, that will not change, as long as they can find better employment and opportunity than they can at home. Walls won't do a thing. Making liberals be conservative won't make a difference. Democrats are now fighting E-Verify.

The Dems most certainly arent for small govt, everyone knows that, and so anyone in favor of a smaller govt. or less spending has a choice to make. The problem with reducing spending is the political messaging. Every single one of you who post stuff like this would turn right around and cry the second the GOP proposes legislation to reduce spending.

I never claimed the Dems are for a smaller government but neither is the GOP. The only difference between the two parties is that sense is what parts of the government they want to expand.
May 9, 20232 yr The NRA should pass out free AR-15's to citizens and let them take matters into their own hands.

The border problem will end when we stop letting people hire illegals without serious consequence. Nothing else will work, especially since MOST illegals cross legally and then don't leave.

Buttttt, does that mean we shouldn't put more resources into stopping the people crossing illegally? Currently, we average 7500 a day. Experts feel that number will move to 12000 post-Title 42. That's a range of 2.7M-4.8M for the year. These are not small numbers.

Since that is NOT the majority of illegal immigration, the answer is no. Why not actually fix the problem? Fixing the lesser issue seems a poor way to go about it, especially, since more walls, more guards, has done little to stop the flow. As long as they can come here and work illegally, they will come.

I have 0 issue impugning harsher penalties on employers for hiring illegals. But, that is essentially a revamp of the entire agricultural industry amongst others...much larger undertaking.

May 9, 20232 yr 24 minutes ago, Tnt4philly said: Maybe make it easier for immigrants to come here and work? Doesn’t have to permanent citizenship. Bring back circular migration. I think this is an essential point. It's worth noting that many of those who are petitioning for asylum are from Guatemala, Honduras, and other countries south of Mexico. Biden recently harshened the policy on these would-be refugees to bar entry for those who have not already petitioned and been denied in one of the pass-through countries. That goes into effect Thursday. There's a few things at play here. Making circular migration easier for seasonal labor from Mexico would help ease some of the pressures, but Mexican illegals aren't the ones causing the border crisis - it's the nations south of Mexico whose refugees are in some ways exploiting the system. While the US's impact on Latin and South American governments is often overstated by anti-Western/anti-American tankies and commies, we played a role in Guatemala's instability and civil strife the last 70 years or so. It's a nation that likely would have had significant economic challenges regardless of our involvement, but there's a "you break it you bought it" level of responsibility that's hard to shake for me, so I'd be supportive of a special program for Guatemalan refugees to help balance the ledger there. That said, what you also have is a lot of able bodied people willing to make a long and arduous trek. And you have an historically low percentage of American workers willing to engage in menial labor. Put a program in place to Americanize these willing immigrants and put them to work. That's my $.02

May 9, 20232 yr 1 hour ago, GreenReaper said: ENFORCE the existing laws on illegally entering the US or the existing laws on hiring illegal immigrants or both? They aren't doing either right now. It is a fact that the majority of illegals ENTER the US legally, and then don't leave when they should. I was very clear. The people come for the illegal work they can get. It pays better than anything at home, and there is less issue with cartels, etc. They come here because companies are ALLOWED to hire illegals. When they get caught, they get a slap on the wrist fine, and as soon as inspectors leave, they hire more illegals. You have to make it more expensive to hire illegals, than to hire legal employees. Until you take away the work, they will come. The only way to make companies hire legal workers, is by making hiring illegals more costly. Much more costly. To sum up, the border crisis will disappear the moment hiring illegals costs more than hiring legal workers.

We need to ENFORCE those laws too.
