There's been some excellent insider reporting about how the Eagles front office has become increasingly dysfunctional in recent years.  I'm attaching links to stories in The Athletic and Inquirer that are must-reads for serious Eagles fans.  Among the headlines:

  • Lurie wanted Reich gone after 2016.  Doug said no.  Lurie was going to fire them both and make Jim Schwartz head coach until Wentz intervened.
  • Every Tuesday after games, Lurie and Howie held a tribunal with Doug and basically beat him up: second guess every play call, clock management, personnel decisions.
  • The atmosphere inside the facility is so toxic departments had to be moved across the building to be physically separated.
  • Howie has reverted to the sneaky, slippery eel he was when Chip Kelly banished him from the football operation and he's paranoid about leaks.

I also heard Lurie and Howie would tie up Doug and kick him in the balls everytime he called a run play.

that's pretty much what the story says.

It's hard to imagine that Reid would have tolerated this. Lurie seems to becoming increasingly Jerry Jones-like in his old age.

It almost seems as if Lurie was traumatized by Chip Kelly and now he's over-compensating to re-assert his authority.  Basically, they were downright disrespectful to Pederson...if they continue with that same approach with Sirianni, it won't be long before we're looking for another HC.

Seems like Howie can do no wrong even though he has been complete trash at building the roster since the super bowl year.

Well at least we had 2017

Very likely we wont see another one for some time

Yup, and we’re going to have only the best to choose from the more this stuff becomes public knowledge. Assuming it’s true of course.

Alot of assuming going on.....

Has any actual player or actual FO employee said any of this or is it all "sources"?

I'm not sure how you came to that. Howie has been ripped relentlessly since last season, and deservedly so. I think these latest articles about Lurie just tell the story that its way more than just Howie. The Lurie/Howie/BlackOps front office team are all to blame for the current state debacle.

Matter of opinion but I didn’t think Trey Burton’s comparison of Howie to other teams like Colts and Bears was in a good light

Let’s not exclude the allegation that Howie and Jeff had their own draft board that they would follow, completely ignoring the board that was set based on the information provided by the scouting department.  No wonder there is such a massive lack of top end talent.

There have been a few players that have spoke on this in some way

Except Jerry actually has a knack for identifying talent and drafting well.

Was listening to Dan Patrick yesterday and they had Doug Gottlieb and Jason Smith on instead.

Anyways, Smith was teasing this article about the Eagles was going to be the lead story everywhere and its huge news and blah, blah, blah.

Still havent seen it mentioned anywhere.

But it's coupled with a knack having the highest paid QB, RB, and WR and being unable to keep the rest of those solid draft picks.

And I rounded up to get 60. Only 57 from 1960 to 2017. So we really only have 54. This keeps getting better

Howie and Lurie will never hire a real coach who will tell them "no." They now only hire yes men. That's not a winning formula.

Nobody's going to say it on the record because Lurie would destroy them but the articles quote two former players/employees and, I think, two current.

And these aren't crazy, out of the blue stories.  They track with what we've been hearing about Lurie and Howie for a long time now.

Great point.  The smartest guys in the room, always.

Too much drama! If they're winning, you never hear anything like this. When they have a bad season, they rub it in. Sportswriters know how to play the fanbase.
