Every generation thinks it is, and every generation by and large is better off than their parents on most major metrics. We're not without problems; buying power and the general economic opportunity for no and low-skill laborers here in the US is getting worse. Climate change. The fact that we have a major party dominated by its "ignorant radical" wing. But generally speaking as we progress our standard of living raises (even if our buying power is reduced our standard of living can improve), we're generally safer, less likely to engage in a major war... The negativity bias is pervasive. This is true. But @vikas83 is still correct that a lot of people shouldn't have kids. Besides those like him that don't want them (and it seems I hear that more the older I get) so many people are not competent, in a healthy relationship or financially secure enough and have them anyway. I myself waited till I was 30 and we were married for 5 years.

Plenty of stupid people who don't have their crap together that end up with them. I just never liked the "the world is going to hell" excuse for not having them. Nobody needs a reason to not have kids.

This is the real problem. I see these D-bags at school functions - they complain how teachers are not raising their kids right. That's your job, crapbird. You teach them to behave.

When those crappy parents were kids, they were raised by crappy parents, who likely neglected their children thinking teachers will do the job for them... That's not what school is for. School is for kids to gain education and perform. The real work is done after they leave school. Parents teach their kids how to be people.

Problem is also that it's the irresponsible people having more kids and the ones who would actually make decent parents who are holding back. Idiocracy.
October 19, 20213 yr Paternity leave is great. Highly recommend. If this were my life forever I'd lose my mind but for a few months? All about it.
October 19, 20213 yr Kids change you. If you're mostly a patient, compassionate person, almost certainly for the better. You become more patient, more compassionate, more caring, more kind, and so on. The opposite is likely true, or it seems to be in some cases at least. Kids aren't easy, but they're worth it. We're on this earth for a stupidly short slice of time, and they say happiness is fleeting, but with kids, I feel like I can grab hold of those fleeting moments, stretch them out longer, and savor them more. You know how some people have an infectious laugh? Like when they're laughing so hard at something that's not initially funny to you, but they're cracking up so much that you start to laugh along with them? That's what kids are like. Their joy for life is infectious. Seeing the wonder in them when we go to movies, vacations, sporting events, coaching them up all summer and then seeing them score their first goal in their first game (I get goosebumps even typing it out, yeah I'm a corny ass chump), etc. I love my kids, man. Love them more than anything. They are my world.
October 19, 20213 yr Spent most of the weekend with my kids and grand kids. It was wonderful. Carving pumpkins, roasting pumpkin seeds, and just being together. Driving to NJ and back, with my youngest granddaughter was a hoot. She's a funny girl. We took the long way home because she wanted me to drive down 'roller coaster hill' - a hill with three sharp drops that gives you a good 'belly lurch' as the wife calls it, when you hit them at speed.

They are responsible, intelligent people who would have raised good kids. Vikas too, but instead they let the Kz! of the world breed.

We just spent the weekend in NYC. First time we all went since the pandemic. Saw a show and did a lot of shopping, it was great.
