Given that, after this year, it costs alot more in resources to get into draft position for a good QB, if he can't complete the SB journey. On your world, a QB will win a certain number of games, at most, no matter how good the defense is? The Eagles offense, right now, is above average, #11 in points per game. But the defense is below average, at #21 in points per game. If the Eagles stopped giving up so many points, it seems to me that they'd win more games.

There are 11 teams that give up more points per game than the Eagles do. Just this year. Add more talent in the draft, the defense should get better. I disagree. This scheme and this DC are just flat out bad. Sure the talent doesn't help but the stats are misleading here. This is a bad defense. Sure there are no doubt talent issues but Gannon is just doing a terrible job.

November 15, 20214 yr The Offense is clearly playing better football. There’s no mistake about it. They found their identity.
November 15, 20214 yr Author If Miles Sanders can get his crap together and hit the holes this offense will be fun to watch

Of course when you have to keep playing Barnett and his dumb penalties that can kill the defense too. Nelson had a play where if he just turned around it’s an interception. Instead he went all grabby and got a PI. Gannon hasn’t done a good job, but he doesn’t have much to work with on defense. There might be five guys tops I’d say keep on this defense.

Sure, you can complain that an offense which is above average should be even more above average, but that would be unrealistic. It's more realistic to blame the defense for being below average and hope they improve to average or maybe even above average. The numbers of both the offense and defense might be improved after this game, perhaps not. 4-6 is pretty good, Wentz was 3-8-1 last year.

The Eagles played the most complete game yesterday, but that doesn't change that the offense through the majority of the year has looked inconsistent. Some of that was on coach and some of that was on QB. It appears that the coach has learned to play to the team's strengths as a running team vs depending on this QB to carry the load with his arm. Also, why do so many of you boners always come back around to Wentz to justify everything? No one was satisfied with his play last year and he is no longer here.

And when that happens its going to be a struggle because Hurts can't throw the ball consistently. Only one game but I'd say they passed that test. Hope to see more of the same moving forward.

Denver couldn't stop the run and so it allowed Sirianni to call a nicely balanced (run heavy) game. When a team takes away that run though that's when the concerns start.

I love that Sirianni dared them to try to stop it (and that they couldn't). The more they run, especially against tougher run defenses, the more confidence it will give our OL and RBs to smash them in the mouth and make it harder to shut down.

With our OL and RBs there are going to be very few teams who can stop us especially when you mix in that Hurts can run too.

To your earlier point, it will be interesting to see how Sirianni responds if/when we do face a defense that limits the effectiveness of the running game. Is he patient and keeps some level of balance or does he abandon the run and go pass happy.
November 15, 20214 yr He has made one big change and that's limiting the RPO. Hurts would make the wrong decision and pull it in and throw the ball just about every time. Once he took that decision away they've looked much better and have run the ball consistently and exceptionally well

Does he completely abandon the run? Feels to me like the RPO system is the biggest issue. The RPOs just aren’t working well right now, but we keep using it. The empty backfield stuff isn’t working that great either. I don’t feel like Hurts is quite ready to pass the Eagles to victory, but I do think he can still use his legs to move the chains enough to keep the run game viable. Howard will get the team three yards at least he always move forward. Two runs by Howard and that’s still basically third and 4. Still more manageable than third and long.

And even then we are so deep there that as long as that line then plays together a bit we are hard to stop running it again.

It was mind-boggling last year with Wentz struggling, the line's injury issues and everything else, that Doug didn't try to alleviate some of the pressure by running more.
November 18, 20214 yr I don't quite understand why it's Driscoll on the right and Dickerson on the left instead of vice versa, but this OLine has some big league ceiling right now.

Defense makes sure you win the games against average competition but to be in the realm of the teams vying for the super bowl you have to be able to score 30 points or more consistently against good teams. We're scoring like we're a good team right now. When Hurts is on, we can go toe to toe with anyone in the league right now. Sirianni did a good job of letting him go while he was hot last game and switching it up when he started cooling off. I thought he let him go a series too long but he made the change and put the game away. If Hurts can get his accuracy together enough to consistently give us 18 to 20 good throws, it could turn into something special. Just not sure he's there yet. Watch this Saints game. If we can run on the Saints, like we've did on the Broncos, this team is going to be a serious threat. This line is mauling some people but the Saints are the #1 rush defense by far. It isn't even close.

He wasn't ready and coupled with Sirianni's lack of ability to utilize his skill players, it shows up on the field. He doesn't have a "limited" skill set, that's idiotic. What he has is limited experience, with a head coach who is "learning on the job". Hurts is making mistakes, but nothing that shouldn't be expected with someone so inexperienced. Reagor, Sanders, Scott, Gainwell, Howard and Watkins have been brutally underutilized and Ward & JJAW have virtually disappeared. Hurts is basically a rookie. He's in a new offense in his 2nd year. And he's the team's leading rusher, which is pathetic with the talent the eagles have in the backfield. Good post, and underutilized is an understatement. The offense so so boring, no creativity at all. When watching other games around the league I see bigtime creativity is pass play scheming. All Sirianni has to do is view other games around the league and see how they're doing what they do, as they say, it's a copycat league, for crying out loud copy others if you can't figure out how to scheme on your own.

I chalk that up to instincts of being a right handed QB. Running right keeps his throwing option alive to a greater extent because he can hit the whole field (in theory). Body mechanics and passing vision are more limited when going left unless he has time to set his feet. He just habitually goes right at this point
