I’ll tell you how I chose my doctor. Ā I’m 33. Ā  I been showing up to physicals on and off every 3 sometimes 5 years with various doctors until I got to the one I’m on. Ā I still have no idea what makes a good doctor but at least he’s not an a-hole and he hasn’t killed me yet and that’s why I’m with his office

Ā

and I’d be willing to bet that’s why you chose your doctor. Ā So for all you know your doctor basically is Dr Oz but you just like him

Most family's will get recommendations from friends and family members when choosing a primary care Dr. That's how we did it. And then look the guys name and practice up and see what other people think of it. That's what I did for the two my family has used so far.

Well here’s the thing. Ā I live in an area where I really only had a very small number of choices, maybe three or four

I am positive my doctors is not a snake oil salesman. I have had pill pushers, and gotten different doctors. I am with my current doc for 4 years, my last one sucked. My oldest daughter goes to a practice, and I tried them out. I like my new doctor.

You haven't had enough medical issues (I've done more hours of hospital, doctor's offices than I care to think about - both parents died of cancer, sister with breast cancer, mother in law with a dissectingĀ  anuerism in her aorta, wife breaking her ankle in a lovely spiral) - you quickly learn which doctors give a crap, and which are just counting the billable, or the ones who just want to give you meds and get you out.

A good doctor is not just a person that hasn't killed you, one would hope.

I mean, doesn't everyone find a doctor through recommendations from friends/co-workers/etc.? Then research the qualifications?

I'm not even sure what the argument is here? That maybe our doctors suck as much as Dr. Oz?

It seems to have morphed into Maine having a critical shortage of doctors. Or at least ones that aren't a-holes trying to kill patients. Not sure.

i think the argument is....HOLY SHEET...ANOTHER TV CON MAN IS RUNNING FOR OFFICE AS A REPUBLICAN SO I BETTER FIND A WAY TO CHANGE THE SUBJECT QUICK!Ā

Ā

or something like that.Ā

I would like to be able to say that Republicans would be morons to vote for Dr. Oz, that he would guarantee they lose the Senate seat. But goddamn they keep impressing me with their stupidity.Ā

Well here’s where maybe I am poor. Ā I don’t pay cash to my doctor, I have to pick ones on a list

I've had the same doctor since I was a teenager. Kind of weird to think about, because I'm guessing the guy is going to retire at some point. Small family practice my parents took me to at 13 when we moved to the area, 30+ years later he still doesn't seem that old - maybe late fifties?Ā

Even before I had a conceirge doc, I still got recommendations from people. Newsflash -- co-workers have the same insurance you do.

There’s not that many doctors taking new patients at any given time. Ā All the fat diabetes people hog all the doctors

OK...try being less poor and getting a concierge doc then.Ā

Perfect time for:

Also by the way what makes your family and friends qualified to know, and by the way true story if it was my family and friends, oz graduated about 20 years ahead of me at my high school so he’d probably be on the recommendation list

They are usually qualified to weed out the wack jobs and a-holes who just want to kill people. EIther by telling you, or you hearing about their death.

So not only do you think oz is a bad doctor but he actually qualifies as a whack job and or a hole?
