Oz's introduction of himself as a candidate had the same snake oil salesmanship that worked for Trump in 2016. 

The irony of some literal snake oil con artist who spent his life fighting to get into the ivory tower trying to sell himself as the fighter in Washington for the common man is pathetic. But it's proven to work on voters before.

Celebrities moving into politics isn't new.  Actors, athletes, etc.  Some work out, some don't.  Some are silly and not taken seriously, it seems Dr. Oz is in that category. 

Being an outsider and not a politician in and of itself doesn't mean someone can't run for office, everyone starts somewhere.  Part of AOC's story is that she went from a local bartender to Congress.  Bill Bradley went from the NBA to the Senate, Al Franken went from SNL writer and playing Stuart Smalley to Congress, Jesse Ventura from fake wrestling to Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger became Governor and other examples. 

A lot of career politicians with government experience are also complete morons and an embarrassment.

This is all true. It's still very ironic and funny that another celebrity who is a completely blatant shill is running for office after having Trump as POTUS. People called Trump a snake oil salesman, and now we have a guy who actually would sell literal snake oil as a health supplement.

He shouldn't be taken seriously. But the guy has been a regular on Fox, and knows how to sell himself.

People should see through it, but I don't have any faith that they will.

Right, I noted that he is in the category of the silly and not taken seriously.  My point is, since Trump a lot of people scoff at a non-politician running for office as if it's always a bad thing, always a crazy person or snake oil salesman.  But the fact is lots of people go from celebrity or private sector into government, and being a lifelong politician isn't necessarily a good thing either.  We just need quality people regardless.

Bill Clinton said "Make America great again" in a speech.  Trump turned it into a brand.  Hillary said in a speech about border control we needed to get more resources, and build a structure like fencing or some other structure to enforce the border and keep illegals out.  Trump branded it build a wall.  Obama banned travel from certain Middle East countries due to safety concerns, Trump did it during COVID and was labeled racist.  Biden is doing it now because of the Omicron variant and he's not a racist.  You're right, it's delivery and how people spin the decisions.

It seems pretty clear that whatever one side is for (while in charge) the other side is against. They find it horrible that the other side would dare use such tactics.

Reagan was the union rep for the screen actors guild.  He was also a two-term governor of California before becoming President.

He hosted GE Theater, which was basically a weekly movie night on TV. As part of that, he traveled to GE factories and gave speeches to workers. That is when he first started giving political speeches.

Before you deride snake oil, it can be shown that when a doctor merely declares "you are better now” in some cases has the effect of improving a persons health in and of itself
