October 4, 20232 yr Author Overall the show was well made, with some exceptions that SW always has to do certain dumb things for plot armor, coincidence, cute/comic relief creatures, etc. The finale was predictable & kinda boring at times. There were a couple good action scenes though. Ahsoka should be destroying everyone, they are limiting her to stretch things out.
October 4, 20232 yr Author They also are taking for granted that not many people watched TCW & Rebels cartoons. I watched both so I got references & easter eggs but I can see how fans that didn't might be lost. Filoni addressed that in the Ahsoka 8 minute special on Disney+ saying Lucas told the story out of order from the beginning so you can pick up a SW story at any point.

One aspect that bummed me out about the show was Sabine. People on Reddit who hadn’t watched Rebels hate her character. She’s awesome in Rebels, but she is very unlikable in Ahsoka. It’s not like the writing or actress is bad, but her story in the show makes her look bad. Thing is is the way she acts & her arc in Ahsoka makes total sense, it’s just a bummer that non rebels fans have this negative perspective on a great character.

A friend called her and Hera bland and charmless in Ahsoka. They've watched Rebels a lot with their kid, so know what the characters have been like and could be. More of a note of frustration vs out right hating.

October 5, 20232 yr There is a season 2 of Ahsoka? Oh my, didn't realise that. So more space whales huh?

I disagree on the Sabine part, but I’ve never really cared for Hera. Honestly have always found that character just meh & unforgettable. if we don’t get a Zeb & Ezra reunion I’ll be pisssssssssed

Sabine: Spoiler risked everything to find Ezra. Disobeyed Ahsoka, Hera, The New Republic. Allowed the bad guys to get the maguffin to lead them to Thrawn, allowing him to come back. They made it like they were lovers or something. They were just part of the crew. Yet, she finds him and they have the most underwhelming reaction ever. Meh. Like they hadn't seen each other in a day and just bumped into each other. Sabine also feels no remorse for that decision which now has brought Thrawn back and will cost lives.

My feeling is they are regurgitating PR talking points because they are either too dumb/not interested to know anything about Star Wars and/or in need of work so will repeat verbatim what they are told to, to be a good hand. You can easily argue without Leia*, the rebellion doesn't beat Vader/Emperor, and without Padme, her kids would never have been put in the position to do that. The male characters are largely ancillary to the story in some respects. Anakin is an awful baby Daddy and Han is just a scum bag. Etc * Not including Toddler Leia from Obi Wan

October 6, 20232 yr Can I ask an obvious question about Ashoka now it's over. Was it ever explained why a map was put into the ball puzzle and who it was intended for? I've seen reviews (and a friend) talk about the map, but not who was the intended recipient of the puzzle - did they ever explain it? Was it a Rebel or Empire thing?
October 7, 20232 yr Author I've been rewatching TCW with my son. Ahsoka's story of walking away from the Jedi order was interesting. A shame the live action show didn't really do anything with that.

But your point is right, the exact same plot as the Disney trilogy, effectively.

Or introduce more stuff with Luke, Obi Wan, etc to fill in gaps. You could also move Ashoka into another galaxy, and use that as an excuse for her absence in the other stories. Off in another galaxy, looking for and training Jedi's in the manner she sees fit to rebuild the order. You could then introduce Thrawn as someone looking to complete Order 66, etc etc. Spoiler and then introduce the Yuuzhan Vong into the story as the new baddie for the rebellion to fight. And if they really wanted to make Rey the new thing, that's a way to build her journey as a child being trained by Ahsoka

October 9, 20232 yr All in all I enjoyed Ashoka but, and this might be a pretty unpopular opinion, while she's definitely pleasing to look at, Rosario Dawson is a terrible actress, or she was terrible in this anyway.
October 9, 20232 yr I heard the lightsabre fights that Dawson were in could have been a lot better than they were. Looked slow and clunky vs the others in the program

It doesn't take much for Ashoka to explain to someone (Sabine, Baylan, whoever) that she left the Jedi Order because she didn't sign up to be a war General tied up into politics, she wanted to be a peacekeeper. They did the flashbacks to her and Anakin fighting alongside troopers in the war. I believe they showed her hesitancy about that but didn't really go further into her issues with the Jedi Order. Instead they used it to retcon that Anakin was a great and wise leader as a Jedi which is not at all what they showed in the prequels.
