They've become a parody of themselves. The writing is terrible, the acting is terrible, the dialogue is either stolen or laughable.

What's strange is "Disney Star Wars" isn't all bad. Rogue One, Andor, and most of The Mandalorian are great. The Bad Batch (I haven't watched all of it) and the Jedi Tales cartoons were good.

Boba Fett, Obi-Wan and Ahsoka were a mixed bag of potential, some good moments, average, bad and cringe all at once. The sequel movies were similar.

It seems they don't have one clear vision. Filoni is good, but he is obsessed with his Clone Wars and Rebels characters and the Ahsoka show didn't make a ton of sense in context of post ROTJ. They're doing content all over the timeline going backwards and forwards and having to retcon things to make it correlate well to the originals, or leave open plot holes and unanswered questions.

They're using different creative voices to create various products and it's inconsistent.

The short answer is Star Wars won't have success until Kathleen Kennedy is gone. I'll spoiler the rest as it has some minor EU spoilers

Spoiler

The problem is the further they got away from George Lucas, the worse it's got.  Star Wars is in a terminal decline and it lacks a creative direction/vision to get out of it - they just throw stupid amounts of money at it.  Lucas had a plan, Lucasfilm under Kennedy thought it knew better and ignored it.  They've ignored the EU, they had ready baked stories to use and thought better.

Thrawn is a great character; they turned him into a man with a small beer gut. who made mistakes he would not in the books. They have not gone to Mara Jade, Corran Horn, Booster Terrik, Mirax Terrik, the Empire remnants, new Jedi under Luke, Rogue Squadron (and the Ewok pilot), the crime syndicates, the death of Chewie, etc. All better than reheating the dead corpses of Obi Wan and Vader.

As fans, we need to accept it's a dead brand from the 20th century/early 21st century, being run by people more obsessed with virtue signalling than making good content.  Until someone who gets what Star Wars is ,has control over it, it will be nothing more than an IP for Disney to farm . The next 2 eps of the Acolyte will show why it's a dead brand run by morons.

What the hell did I just watch? Episode 3 of this show is an abortion.

It's been some lazy writing for The Acolyte

🤣

And actor that plays the balding Jedi has a history of killing himself in big franchises. His agents must hate him

Calling it lazy writing is being generous.

I was excited initially because I've been wanting a Star Wars movie or show that's about an evil Jedi killing everyone. The evil twin story felt like a Disney copout. The witches, thread, coven, the Jedi going to some random planet to collect children all seemed like lazy and bad writing

It's worse. It's as if making it as diverse and as queer as humanly possible doesn't make up for thin plot lines, cookie cutter characters, and terrible acting. I should give them some credit though, I couldn't have come up with a dumber plot than "Lesbian Space witches confront Jedi Patriarchy" if I tried.

Professionals working for Disney should be able to put together better writing and acting. It's possible to be diverse and have good story. Some of the elements of this show could work. They just need to be written and acted better. Between Obi-Wan, Boba Fett and Ashoka they've executed certain scenes so badly they come off as cringe when there's no need for that.

It would be fine to have a coven of witches (as seen in The Clone Wars and Ashoka already), Jedi investigating them, discovering they are turning force sensitive children evil. The Jedi try to rescue the children and stop the coven. The coven retaliates by raising up assassins to kill the Jedi. That's essentially the story and could work if executed better.  Corny lines, poor choreography, bad acting, Tobin's fake beard glued on to make him look older, Jedi easily distracted and killed meanwhile Sabine (in Ahsoka) survived a lightsaber to the gut.

There are fan made films that are better than this.

This also made me think of that show The OA.   (don't know what the tweeter is talking about there, it was the first video that showed up of it though).

Seen on social media:

"The force is wrong with this one."

And an accurate comparison: feels like the CW making corny comic book shows.

Yikes.

If you want some entertainment, there is an ongoing therapy session on Rotten Tomatoes.  The variety and intellect of criticism is quite a read

I'll be interested to see if the reaction to the Acolyte will effectively end the chances of the Rey film being made?

Disney are crowing about the ratings for the first 2 eps, but even they can't be that stubborn, ignorant, arrogant or have the deep pockets to produce and market a film for a property that is in steady decline. Especially when the 3rd ep has taken a dump on the OG films lore.

I doubt it. Fans mostly didn't like Boba Fett, then loved Andor. Mixed reaction to Ahsoka and Mando season 3. There ARE fans who really like The Acolyte, even if they are ignoring bad writing and acting but like it because of representation and diversity, or because they enjoy the "upset the white male SW fan" concept.

The movie they make to wrap up the post-ROTJ story with Thrawn, Ahsoka, etc. will probably do well.

Plus, even though we don't like The Acolyte they're getting the views the day it comes out, or a day or 2 after. Even if people hate watch it, they can show it's making them money and keep making content.
