Hope they go younger. Rather have growing pains then old and aging same old ish.

To me if JP is brought back then serious questions have to asked of Howie there. Bringing him back raises real concerns about Dillard.

When Big V actually had time to practice and wasn’t just thrown into the fire he wasn’t that bad. Maybe the incident at RT for Dillard has really shaken their confidence in him.

True. In some games Big V played well and in others he was a human turn style. As for Dillard, putting him at RT was a mistake by the Eagles. He played much better at LT. I think his statement about trying to learn to write with your left hand should have been a signal to the Coaches that it was a mistake. At some point they have to let Dillard play LT and see what he has. Maybe this is a reason why they drafted Hurts?

Not sure Hurts will make much of a LT bud...

😁

Is JP better than the final lineman taking a roster spot on the squad?  Highly likely. Bring him back, Mailatta isn’t blocking anyone.

But eventually we've got to move on. If there's a younger player who they believe they can develop in to even a good back up OT then I'd rather that at this point.

As an assistant coach to Stoutland? Great! As a player? Please no

Lane Johnson in the same interview where he vaguely said he thinks JP could be back, said this about Dillard.

"I think Andre will be ready," Johnson said.  "Just like me, coming in, I had some ups and downs in my rookie year. But that's when you learn the most. As far as athleticism, I think he'll be ready"

Perhaps Covid19 and not being able to work directly with Dillard throughout the spring and summer has prompted this 180 from the Eagles.

Not exactly a thoroughly convincing wording there, Lane.

Sure, but the input of Dillard’s current skill level and his ceiling must factor in too.

We should be asking more questions about Howie and his ability to evaluate talent frankly.

How valid is a report from Gunn? He said they were trading Dillard at the draft.

Actually what he said was the Eagles were offering up Dillard, but nobody wanted him.... sooooo yeah......

what happened to the Rugby guy?

At first thought, Peters being coming back likely signals that the coaching staff doesn't trust Dillard, and that's troubling if true; but if that's the case, why hasn't Peters been signed already?  If they don't trust Dillard then why would they allow Peters to linger in the open market for so long?

First off I think JP needed to go out there and realize he’s not worth what he used to be. Secondly there’s no reason to get a deal done right now. Remember how late Sproles used to sign, because he didn’t want to deal with camp? Maybe it’s nothing, but the truth is neither side needs to be in a rush to sign anyone. If Peters signs to early he could also lose an opportunity to make more money. Let’s say they get to camp and Dillard goes down with an injury? Just like that Jason’s services just went up in price.

Better question:

What changed in a month?

A month ago they let JP go and made a public goodbye statement. Why do that if you don't believe in Dillard? Hope to get another OT in the draft?  They did take Driscoll.

During the offseason when there's no football activity, what changed?

Clearly someone doesn't like Dillard at NovaCare. Unless that is Jeff Stoutland, the point is moot for now.

He needs to learn to f'ing anchor better this season is all I know. Obviously not going anywhere.

As NOTW said rhetorically, nothing has changed in the past month.

No doubt about it. In fact to me it's not really a question at this point. He's not very good at it.

Perhaps it’s becoming clearer that teams aren’t going to be able to have OTAs and possibly no training camps as well. How can they truly know how much Dillard has developed if they don’t see him?

Well, they had him for last preseason, then watched him play 337 offensive snaps last regular season.

If you are implying they are wondering how much more he has developed since then, I guess that could be a fair argument. Of course, on the other hand ... that we know at least one person on the coaching staff thinks he needs to go and also that the team most likely  (could be completely made up) tried to trade him, that's an issue.

The point is simply that last year he told the media the week he was to start RT that he couldn't do it before the game (not good), he continues to have issues anchoring (not good) and you do start to wonder then ... does someone on the staff just think he's a p#ssy?

Which leads me back to my point, unless it's Jeff Stoutland, it doesn't really matter. It's up to him.

I have been under the impression that there is no way in hell they'd have OTAs or even training camp. Then again, I don't think they'll have a season in September.

I must be literally the only person that actually thought for a rookie Dillard played pretty well last season filling in for peters. I can’t remember him getting consistently beat, or the line looking that much different. Granted he does need to handle bull rushes better, but he was a rookie.

Do we know that? Says who?

We all knew when we drafted Dillard that he had bags of talent but needed to be developed and put on a pro football weight gain plan. I think the team should at least see what results that yields. Unless of course they've seen behaviours the last year to suggest he's not the right man but then they should have looked to do something in the draft.

Who hasn't said it? It's been over the course of two months, but at this point I'm pretty sure the list is Tim McManus, Jimmy Kempski, Tommy Lawlor, Derrick Gunn, Brandon Lee Gowton, etc, etc.

Kempski flat out said, "I know they have major concerns about him (Dillard) presently" a week ago and said the concerns were "that he was bad in 2019 and didn't have dog in him". That lines up with what others have mentioned.

I think you guys are reading into what I said as a bash.

I am simply saying that none of these rumors matter unless they're coming from Jeff Stoutland. In other words, Andre Dillard will start this year no matter who says what if Stout likes him.
