Reviews have been pretty good from what I've read

it was the suck. Not sure why half the cast had British accents in space, and another movie where characters just make moronic decisions over and over again. Also, I've watched all the previous films more than once (except Covenant)... but did the Xenomorphs always increase their mass by a factor of 15,000 in the span of like 5-10 minutes?

It was awesome.  I am one of the few that actually did like Prometheus and Covenant, but this one blew them out of the water.  My only complaint is similar to cat boy above.  The actors kind of sucked, and their accents were difficult to understand, especially in a loud IMAX theater.  Overall though, it was incredible visually, the plot was awesome and consistent with what happened after Alien.  The aliens were A+, and if you like facehuggers and acid blood, this one is for you.  I had 1 question about it, and I'll put it in a spoiler below, so don't read it until you see the movie.  This movie also had a bunch of jump scares, and it really came off as true horror to me.

I guess the secret lab aboard the Nostromus where the company breeds these insane facehuggers was there the entire time in the original Alien?  That's a cool plot twist/addition.

**The hybrid xenomorph/human at the very end of the movie was one of the scariest things I've ever seen on film.  I loved it, and I can't get enough of these hybrids/mutations/experiments that they've introduced into these last few movies.

I forget the half-android's name, but did he know the mouse got all F'ed up? Does he not care that the biological they've developed will surely wipe out all life forms it comes into contact with?

That's a good point.  My only guess is that he was programmed to always do what the company tells him to do, even if what they tell him to do is stupid.  I doubt Weyland-Yutani even knows about the horrible side effects of that rat yet.  

 

I still haven't caught Romulus yet but I watched Oddity last night and it was really creepy.  Strong recommend.  

 

Next month, I'm flying down to Austin for Fantastic Fest.  The line up usually has premieres for a ton of horror/genre movies that will get wider release over the next year.

This is insanity.  🤣  I love it!  I imagine the people watching at an event like this would be worth the price of admission too.  The 2 movies that jump out to me were Terrifier 3 and VHS Beyond.  I think VHS Beyond comes out on streaming in late September, and I'm always excited to see those.  I saw The Guest awhile back, and it's very creepy.

Big Top Pee-Wee please.

It Follows, I'd never seen this, flew under the radar for me.  Excellent, minimalist horror with a killer soundtrack.

I haven't had much time to post but over the past week I got to finally watch some horror.  I saw the First Omen and When Evil Lurks, both of which were really good.  I also dug Immaculate, which is probably the closest we'll come to seeing Sydney Sweeney's cans and would have been worth it for that alone but it was a pretty effective horror movie too.

I made the mistake of watching Founder's Day.  Holy crap that was bad.  Movies like that are why the slasher subgenre sometimes disappears for several years.

Just saw Immaculate recently and dug it.  It somehow differentiated itself from the other 69,000 nun/demon movies. 

Also saw "the Watchers” last night. Absolutely loved it. It has folklore, terrifying creatures, twists, and an awesome plotline. I was not expecting it to be that good.

I watched The Watchers as well - pretty good!  Ending fell a little flat for me, but it was overall pretty good.  Horror movies are super hard to stick the landing on the ending.  

With spooky season coming up I'm getting in the mood to watch some horror movies

I saw the Watchers and thought it was ok. It reminded me of The Ritual so I re-watched that since it's been a few years. It holds up well.

The ritual is a great one. I may need to rewatch that again without pants real soon. 

Finally watched Talk to Me last night - great flick.  Maybe not QUITE as good as it was hyped to be, but still really good.  One thing I didn't understand

Did her mom actually kill herself or not?  I'm guessing she did, and that her "spirit" or whatever that thing was was just tricking Mia to make her completely lose her mind?

I have Oddity on the list to hit soon.  Any other recent ones that anyone would recommend that were really good?

That's what I thought as well, but now you've got me second guessing and I wanna watch it again.  

Oddity was awesome.  Saw it last week and forgot to post about it.  This director is someone to look out for.  He's also the director of Caveat, which is a very low budget horror movie on Shudder.  It doesn't seem low budget, but it was his first movie.  I liked it a lot, but it's nowhere near as good as Oddity.  The director seems to have a terrifying character in each of his movies, because it makes an appearance in Oddity.  This thing creeps me the F out.

Thanksgiving - awesome.  It had bad reviews, but it was fun from start to finish.  The grocery store scene in the beginning was painfully believable and hilarious.

Tarot - unexpectedly good.  I posted a review about this a few pages back.  

Oddity - fantastic.  

Sting - solid.  I love a good spider horror, and there are only like 2 total that have ever been any good.  I was expecting a lot going into this one but was slightly let down.  

Halloween Ends - haven't seen it.  I couldn't even get through the previous one.  

A Haunting in Venice - decent.  The 1st 2 with the monopoly man were better in my opinion.  

No One Will Save You - worth a watch but wasn't that high on my list.

When Evil Lurks - probably the best horror I've seen in the last few years.  10/10

Halloween Ends I just wanted to watch cause I took the time to watch the first two.  I fully understand what I'm getting (or not getting).  Haunting in Venice I'm guessing isn't really a horror but I like the murder mystery types.

Halloween Ends is painfully garbage. Like I hate the original Halloween now bad.

The most hilarious part about me watching that last night was that I accessed it through the Disney Plus app  Could you imagine some unsuspecting child clicking on that if the parental controls weren't set up properly
