Gary, Indiana looks like Beirut.

Get a clue.

Have you ever driven through it?

Because you are dead on.

In 2008 I was working on a project in Hammond Indiana.  After hurricane Ike, many of the highways were flooded and you had to take alternate routes.  Unlike many of my coworkers who were staying in Chicago, I was staying in a hotel in Merrillville Indiana.  That detour took me through the heart of Gary.

Most memories of that drive has been suppressed but I do remember two men riding a single electric wheelchair as a means of conveyance.

Yeah. Worked in the steel industry for a few years. Spent some time at US Steel there.

The Sheraton looks like it belongs in Beirut, as does the courthouse.  Bullet holes, scorch marks from fires. It was had to believe it was America.

One is saying that cops shouldn't be called to knife fights at all, which is absolutely bat sh** crazy. The other is saying cops need not show up to a knife fight between two people with the intention of spraying first, which taken at face value, is maybe something a normie would think.

Yeah, that cop came out with the intention of spraying first.

Went through it on the way to/from Chicago a few summers ago. We had the kids with us so there was no chance in hell I was leaving the interstate anywhere near there. I guess you could say we got the PG13 experience.

Upon further review, we were probably safer there than in Chicago.

Really? Because there was pretty "hold up" among Dems when #defundthepolice starting being pushed by the fringe left.

Biden has consistently been against defunding and has advocated for MORE funding.

The right is trying to project "defund the police" as more popular than it actually is because it's a narrative they can sell to their base.

You realize those tweets prove my point, right? You're agreeing with me then?

They're criticizing Biden and Harris for supporting a reform focused bill that increases funding for training, and not THEIR bill where defunding police is a centerpiece.

Democrats are the absolute worst lol

If you can’t beat ‘em, make ‘em join you.

MATH IS RACIST. It is nothing but another vestige of Western imperialism!

Am I doing it right?

I saw the tweet and thought it was relevant to the discussion.  You said the right makes the defund the police a narrative to sell to their base.  The BLM organization is kinda popular and that's what they're calling for.  No argument from me that the right uses anything to create a bigger boogeyman to criticize.

I think the phrase/motto "Black Lives Matter" is popular.

I think the organization, and specifically their support for defunding the police (and attacking the nuclear family, etc.) is not popular.

That's what happens when you name your political movement after a catchphrase that is impossible to argue with. it requires a bit of nuance to say "I believe that Black Lives Matter, but I also believe that the organization Black Lives Matter is wrong to push for defunding police."

I also think, and this has been reported, that just general support for defunding police has pulled back significantly from whatever highwater mark it hit. When people stopped and examined the likely effects, I think it becomes pretty clear that stripping police budgets is not a requirement for accountability and improving the way LEOs work with the community.

Yup, for better of for worse, mass communication leaves no room for nuance. You have to keep the message simple, and if it can be simply associated with something that you don't want it associated with, then the terminology must be sufficiently detached to provide a sense of differentiation. A basic rule of politicking/campaigning is that people are generally simple minded. The left, and a increasingly large portion of the center, royally screw up their messaging because they forget this timeless tenet. No matter what side you're on, you have to keep in mind that you're speaking to the lowest common denominator.

I agree.  And that's part of the problem.  Separating the phrase that is popular from the organization and what they promote.  Of course right wing media is going to use the BLM organization's own comments and agenda.

Well, Caitlyn Jenner is running for governor against Newsome in a recall election. She'll probably win. Never change, CA, never change.
