Stereotypes are tricky. They are most damaging to people who either dont fit the stereotype or reject its premise entirely (even though they may 'fit'). Negative stereotypes are exceptionally damaging, and this one has ties to offensive racial practices. I dont see this one as a wholly negative stereotype and personally, I like the whole aunt jemima vibe and would embrace the role for myself if it fit... but, I get it.

As far as Uncle Ben's and Aunt Jemima go, to me that's really a gray area. Is there substantive demand or even support for that among the black community? Is it harmful to the standing of blacks in America to have that imagery?

To me it seems like those companies 1. trying to "get ahead" of any possible controversy and 2. gain some kind of positive feeling from the black community on this ("virtue signal") and 3. get cred with the woke whites. Maybe I'm too cynical. I just don't see people worrying over Aunt Jemima.
