July 7, 20214 yr Does the senator know about the urban heat island effect? Maybe asphalt and concrete are racist.

July 7, 20214 yr I never understood sweet tea (at Popeye’s and other places) until an African-American guy from Louisiana explained to me that it’s what you drink when it’s 100 something degrees out with high humidity and you don’t have air-conditioning in your house. You sit on your porch and drink Grandma’s sweet tea. Lol

July 8, 20214 yr To people in the South, these things aren't exclusive to black people, they are Southern whether white or any race. Sweet tea, fried chicken, yams, collard greens, watermelon, mac n cheese (real not boxed), cornbread, biscuits n gravy, gumbo, shrimp n grits, etc. are eaten by everyone. I remember the first Chick-Fil-A that opened in Orange County, CA when I lived there. Californians were shocked by the sweet tea and had to learn to ask for unsweet.

Maybe, but I think most people recognize that there are a lot of racial stereotypes related to food and drink. How people like their meat cooked, for example, is one I often hear as there being a racial divide. I wasn’t trying to imply sweet tea was a black thing btw. I recognize it goes with southern fare. We have Bojangles here in NC and of course they do sweet tea.

Wait til you meet a Mexican and hear about what shouldn't be on a taco!

Because the only reason to drink tea with that much sugar in it is if it’s a gazillion degrees outside. Most of us (especially in southern climates) spend the majority of our days in air conditioning where it’s like 70 degrees and have no reason to drink it like that. Working class folks who work outside in the summer (many of whom are black or brown) might like it super sweet though. You sweat it right out anyway. Do you get what I’m saying or nah???

Nope, because people all across the South drink sweet tea. Air conditioning, in the winter, people just like it.

Back when Fuzzy Zoeller made the crack about Tiger Woods picking collard greens to eat at the Master’s, you didn’t think that comment had racial implications? To you that’s just southern fare that everybody in the South eats, right?? Btw, Tiger Woods is from California and went to Stanford.
