The same traits that sane people use to identify Trumpism as a cult exist in a lot of other subcultures built around grievance. Which is what Chappelle is actually striking at in a lot of ways. 8 minutes ago, Dave Moss said: tl;dr I'll try to keep it under 140 characters for you too

Here’s my only gripe about that: you can buy a costume at target for like five bucks. I think it’s crazy. that being said if you want your kid to march in a Halloween parade then send them to private school. And if you can’t afford private school then stop being poor.

October 25, 20213 yr 10 minutes ago, Dave Moss said: wait for it… I saw the headline of that article but hadn't read it, until now. The tweet was partially accurate. The article doesn't say that 3% of the population is experiencing a lessening of sense of smell due to COVID. What it says is that approx. 3% are reporting a lessened sense of smell and that the majority of those believe it is COVID related and not due to other symptoms. Also, while the article talks about CBT as a known treatment, it doesn't say anything about anxiety being the main cause of the problem. Typical weak spin.

October 25, 20213 yr The idea that there are kids whose parents can't afford a Halloween costume breaks my heart.. but you mean to tell me those parents aren't taking out their kids for free candy? I feel like if you're creative enough you can at least improvise a costume. Hell use an old sheet and do the ghost thing or shred it up to make a mummy. Put them in black pants and paint black stripes on a cheap white tee. And there are lots of cheap costumes out there.

And there are lots of cheap costumes out there. yeah, I feel like there are a LOT of solutions to this "problem" of some families that cannot afford a Halloween costume. my guess here is that the nuclear solution of killing off Halloween altogether is for whatever reason what they wanted to do, and they just came up with this as a justification.

Kids not being able to afford Halloween costumes makes me more depressed than kids not getting Xmas presents.
