I actually had the original series on DVD prior to the american version.  

 

I was doing a "dumb american thinks the world revolves around them" schtick.  Added in the mislabeling of Australians as Kiwi's (like I do with Mat), but was probably still too abstract.

I bought the DVDs on a recommendation but only got through the first 3 or 4 episodes.  Too cringe to be enjoyable. 

 

Anyway, I think I need to be more obvious.  I also made an abstract joke where I was queefing over automatic weapons with the Golden candidate in NC and that went over heads too.  And on another site I made a joke about fracking in PA could be the key to ending child slave labor in the Congo (even ended it with "Until next time [skelator meme]") only to have an old frat brothers wife go off on me

Seasons 1 & 2 of the American version are almost carbon copies of the British episodes.  It's a copy all the way down to the stapler in the jello, with the "custardy" jokes and all.  But then they couldn't stop the American show after two seasons, so it spun off on its own direction.  The episodes written by Gervais are pretty good and show his natural talent.
