The part I didn’t get is why he decided to read it since he’s a Spanish teacher and the book was an English class assignment. I do think if he didn’t say the N word, his contract would have been renewed.

One tweet was supposedly advocating for people to read a book called "The Big Lie of the Civil War" that tries to make the case that it wasn't about slavery at all. In a vacuum, the n-word thing makes it seem like he was just a victim of circumstance, but his social media posts seem to paint a different picture.

He may have an agenda, but I don’t think that is why his contract wasn’t renewed. I do wonder if his tweets were something he brought up and discussed in class.

For all we know, they may have offered some sort of compromise if he were to have issued an apology or agreed to not do it again. Needless to say, there's apparently a pattern of behavior here that's not immediately apparent if you just read his thread alone. To be clear, I think any rule that states you can't say the word ever, even when reading directly from a book, is a very stupid rule. Context is of course important and there are ways a careful and experienced teacher can discuss the topic with nuance that might require saying the word. But a teacher who complains about "woke agenda" and reads books that claim the Civil War had nothing to do with slavery probably isn't the best option for that, especially when he's a Spanish teacher, not a history teacher.

But what was that nonsense she was balling on about after that? I really have no idea what that word salad was supposed to actually mean.
