Instead of questioning your sources, you're left with no choice but to question others trying to calm you down instead. You've said "upper stratosphere" twice now... Any chance you can find the source where you got that from and post a link to it here? I'm honestly curious to see where it came from.

I'm calm and not questioning you. We just disagree on this and that's fine, which I've said. It was based on something from an AF general, but I'm sure he is clueless as well.

This isn't possible I'm sure. This one was a spy balloon, but Biden was correct in wanting it gone either way. So much wrong with this piece but as dumb as it is, not even the Washington examiner is stupid enough to call 66k ft the "upper stratosphere."

He mentioned the EMP risk, but I'm sure you'll gloss over that in the article. I can try to find the article that said that but if you want 66k and stratosphere here ya go Quote How do stratospheric balloons work? Here’s a visual guide. Derek Hawkins, William Neff, Dylan Moriarty 3–4 minutes The Chinese balloon floating 60,000 feet over the United States has been described by Secretary of State Antony Blinken as a "surveillance asset.” China’s foreign ministry released a statement saying it’s a weather balloon. Experts in national security and aerospace said the craft appears to share characteristics with high-altitude balloons used by developed countries around the world for weather forecasting, telecommunications and scientific research. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/02/03/how-spy-balloons-work/ Stratosphere is a term being thrown around a lot.

No, no, you said "upper stratosphere" twice. I want to know where you heard 66k ft was the "upper stratosphere."

I don't remember which story I read it from. Stratosphere vs upper stratosphere. Honestly, I don't care. If I remembered it incorrectly or not isn't something that ranks high on my day. Sometimes as I scan articles I get things wrong like I thought he was a Major General not a Major. Either way you mocked it as something that could never be a threat and I guess we are both wrong on something today. Quote n a 2015 report for the American Leadership & Policy Foundation, Air Force Maj. David Stuckenberg, one of the nation’s leading EMP experts, wrote extensively about the threat balloons carrying bombs pose to national security. We could just agree to disagree and move. I think Biden was right. You don't care. Got it.

Keep reading the Washington Examiner and the Gateway Pundit or wherever else told you that a balloon at 66k ft was in the upper stratosphere. Who am I to stop you from having a bit of fun, ya know?

Getting something minor wrong like strat vs upper strat or Maj vs Maj Gen doesn't rank high vs the main concept of they can pose a threat, so yeah. Guess we are both wrong about something today, but only one of us will admit it. Hope you have a good Saturday.

You actually spent the last two pages saying how letting this balloon continue floating means China or Russia will now attempt to deliver a nuke via balloon, and that the most advanced military in history of mankind will have no idea what it is and/or do nothing to stop it, and you think I'm the one that's off base and unable to admit I'm wrong?

I said could, yes. I posted an article describing how that concern isn't off base. You still don't agree and feel it isn't possible. OK. Either way I agree with Biden and you obviously don't and side with the people saying let it be it's no big deal. Sounds good to me.

For surveillance purposes, a balloon isn't any better than a satellite, so that begs the question of why they're floating one out over this way. Could it be to see precisely how we'd react to try to down it? If so, then no need to get too sophisticated, just track its flight until the risk of harming anything on land is the lowest, and use the oldest tech available to drop it. Then tell those F'ers if they do it again, we're gonna have problems." https://www.eaglesmessageboard.com/topic/6620-chinataiwan/?do=findComment&comment=1272148

February 4, 20232 yr There are a few advantages of using a balloon rather than a satellite. Main one is cost of course but they can also hover to an extent.
February 4, 20232 yr So the video released to me, shows to missile trails that miss the target wide, and yet the balloon falls to ground. Hmmmm. Me thinks a laser was used.
