September 13, 20223 yr Gannon probably sucks just based on last year. But I would give him more than one game with this new defense. Sign JPP to replace Barnett. If the defense isn't improving nearly every week, then I'd be ready to move on sooner rather than later.
September 13, 20223 yr These other teams seem to be preparing well and playing aggressive D. Maybe we should also prepare well and play aggressive. Dunno. The other team is tackling hard and getting after the QB. I don't know. Maybe we should do that too.

If the starters played in preseason more then maybe we wouldn't be seeing this rust. Hopefully we don't have to wait until October though. That's ridiculous

September 13, 20223 yr they looked like a defense that hadn't done much tackling since last season. weird because i swear training camp ended not long ago. oh wait ...
September 13, 20223 yr The issue with Gannon is that having gained control of the game by the end of the third, he took his foot off the gas and almost cost them the win in the process. He coaches scared, is risk averse and in over his head. I've seen enough. Last year's excuse was last year.

Problem is the Lions outscored the eagles in the second half, 21-14. 3 second half TDs. 2 TD in the 4th quarter. The Eagles could barely hold on. Lucky the game didn't go longer. 5 TDs for the Lions in the game. 3 rushing, 2 passing. Not a stingy defense. We closed out the win as we barely made a 4th and 1 QB sneak.

You my friend are always the eternal optimist, but this time I agree with you. There was a lot not to like against the Lions, but this was a team that made a large amount of mistakes, has a lot of new pieces, hasn’t had the opportunity to play a lot of football, went into a highly motivated hostile environment, won a game, and still scored 38 points. Most teams around the league had very sloppy week one games. No one is saying in Green Bay "trade away Aaron Rodgers, (though they should probably move on from him for other reasons 🙄) and fire everyone,” because of a week one loss.

I'm happy with the win in what is basically a preseason game for them and most of the league really. Once the league goes to 18 regular season games they will be down to 2 preseason. There simply isn't enough opportunities during preseason to figure out depth and get the starters work. That's why they have the joint practices now for the starters to work on their game. I don't think there is a starter in the league that even wants to play any preseason. People can piss and moan all they want but, the whole league is going in this direction. Some teams still run tough camps but, even they are limited by the players association and how much they can run them in practice and camps.

Right now it’s just too early to say how this will all turn out. Gannon still needs to learn how to delay his players. Players still need some time to figure it out. I didn’t think that the team had so many new faces should decide to go the way they did, but it is mostly the trend of football now like you mentioned. Even back in the day teams still had bad week one starts with all the TC, practices, and preseason games. It’s way too early to start panicking.

First game, without playing much in the pre-season is not an indicator, of anything. Go Eagles.

If it's midseason and he's still allowing QB's to have their best game's of the season against us, fire him. I really hope he gets a head coaching gig after this year. Even if he does improve, i want Vic Fangio! He was lurking at a few practices this pre-season.

We drafted a good young LB and Gannon won't play him. Davis getting limited snaps is a concern too. We thought Shwartz was bad at playing the young guys and developing them, so far Gannon looks worse.

September 14, 20223 yr One thing I dislike about Gannon - that I also disliked about Schartz - is his insistence on lining the ends up so wide. It takes them further away from the ball and makes it harder for older bruisers like Graham to disrupt the pocket (particularly against statues like Goff who are more likely to be bothered by interior pressure).
September 14, 20223 yr I wanted him fired last year and I’m still on that boat. With any luck the d will play well enough that he gets hired as a head coach because I don’t think he will be fired anytime soon.
September 14, 20223 yr I was all about it last year. With that said hard to just dump him now, they did win after all. I'm willing to give him 3 games. I call the 1st game as the starters pre season. Next game against a harder opponent with some limited game tape available.
September 14, 20223 yr But I heard Gannon is the future and he's dripping with the Dawg Mentality. He even has a shirt that says DAWG on the back
