More importantly he missed her entire point altogether.

Actually I think he understood her point perfectly.

Really?  He didn't even watch more than a minute or whatever.

What do you think her point is/was?

It had to do with Candace's ACTUAL point about martyring criminals. No one should be killed, period. But Candace's actual point was about the movement being based on criminals like Floyd.

There are no qualifications for being a martyr. He is a martyr and no argument about him being a criminal will change that.

Agreed.

Sacco and Vanzetti are often talked about as martyrs.  But they might have been guilty of murder.  That’s not the point though.  They’re considered martyrs because they didn’t get a fair trial.

George Floyd is a martyr because he was killed by a corrupt criminal justice system that lets cops brutalize African American under the auspices of "law and order.”

I believe it is a bit more nuanced that that.  She is saying "stop spending 90% of your time and energy on martyrs who are criminals and start spending more time focusing on people that are living examples of what we all should be striving for instead".  She mentioned brilliant people who were very successful in their fields as examples.

Were those people killed by a corrupt criminal justice system?  You and Candace are really missing the point here, Doc.

Slow down bucko.  I'm explaining what I believe she is saying.  I'm not promoting the ideas.

Yeah, and it’s a deflection.
Asking why people aren’t focusing on black excellence while other black people are being brutalized by out-of-control law enforcement isn’t a reality-based conversation.

Thank you, next...

She's not suggesting that there shouldn't be reform within the criminal justice system.  She's suggesting that people embrace their agency and take control over their own situation.  Those two aren't mutually exclusive.

She's focusing on ideas and not on events or people.

Ok.  Explain to me how George Floyd is supposed to take control of the situation when he’s lying prone on the ground with a police officer’s knee on his neck.

George is the spark but the protests are about an entire historical situation.

Of course.  He died in the video, which is what makes him and his situation unique.  In contrast, Rodney King survived his five-minute beat down.

ALLEGED criminal activity.
1) do we even know if the money was in fact a fake $20?

2) Using counterfeit money is only a crime if you know that it is fake and still intend to use it anyway.

3) how often do the police put someone in cuffs when they are accused of using a fake $20?  The owner of the store suggested that this is unusual, saying usually the police just ask a few questions, collect the alleged fake currency, and then go.

That would be great info to have. But stores call the cops alot for fake 20s? No way. Now if someone did it repeatedly...

Let's let Toast speak for himself here.

@ToastJenkins Are you implying that George deserved what he go because he put himself "in position" OR are you suggesting that the police absolutely needed to engage George due to the call regarding his supposed illegal activity BUT that the police also acted in a violent unprovoked illegal and dangerous manner with regard to how they actually engaged George physically?

As i have said plenty already henin no way got what he deserved. I have faulted the cop from the beginning

I think she made informed and educated argument for much of the problems in the black community and gave a simple solution to solve much of it.

don't promote criminal behavior

don't be a victim

The truth hurts and hurt makes one change for the better in most cases
