Said that free agency was very important to him and that he needed the opportunity to experience what it was like to be able to choose where he would play. (Not a direct quote but that's the essence.) So he gets traded to the Cardinals and immediately signs a long term deal there rather than "experiencing free agency", which he claimed was so f'n important to him. Good player for sure. What did he lie about? He didn't want to sign a long term deal and wanted to hit the open market when he was with the Phillies. They traded him to the team he rooted for when he was a kid, which was less than 2 hours away from his parents house. He didn't want to sign an extension in Philly and wanted to test free agency. He got traded to his childhood favorite team and decided to stay.... I don't blame him one bit.
