Turner ... Turner..... OK gents..... but ya gotta admit..... when he effs up..... he does it at the most perfect, highlighting, team killing time.

I could still play better defense at 56. Other admission of my status aside.... I haven't played ball in about 15 years.

Oh his screw ups are always in the worst moments. Usually costs us. Also they come in bunches with him so when it happens it feels like he’s had a ton.

Tough to lose that one yesterday. With the Mets hot it feels like things are slipping. Maybe we can grab back a game in this next series with the Mets on the West Coast.

Good news is the Phils now face the White Sox who have the 2nd worst record in baseball. Hopefully they don't think they can just slack off though as we've seen before with this offense.

Frankly we’d probably be up 4-5 games if the Phillies played like 3-4 games over .500 in the last stretch of 50 games after their 36-19 start (55 games). The Mets have been not good until these last 2 series and the Phillies had basically matched them. Over the last 50 games we are 24-26. 54 games is 1/3 of a season. I’d say we sweep the white Sox but you have Luzardo and Walker for 2 of those games. I’m guessing they win 2 of 3. If that happens you are sitting at 26-27 for 53 games. Really getting swept by the pirates, losing 2 of 3 to the Angels and blowing games like SF is the difference right now.

I’d say this too, the Mets are actually getting healthy as they had Senga and some other guys out. they have a tougher finish to the season schedule wise than the Phillies. It’s going to come down to likely what the Phillies do when they go to citi field in August and then the 4 games at CBP in September. Then again we stil got to go to Texas and Az still which has been a nightmare for us.

Yeah, being under .500 the last 50 games is very telling. Offense and bullpen need to change, in my opinion offense even more so. The offensive cold streaks and inconsistency kill this team and it doesn't matter how bad the opponent. 13 runs in a game means nothing if you then put up 1 or 2 runs a game the next two. I'm concerned even a move like Suarez wont be enough but not much else you can do there. There's not too many decent hitters available to consider for trade deadline.

I know most Phillies fans won’t love it but they really need to keep Bohm if making that move. It at least gives you a 1-7 that’s good enough. Really your two holes are 8-9 with marsh and Stott/sosa. Sosa is fine vs. LHP but is awful against RHP. I think the importance of keeping Bohm can’t be understated. He gives you a good 5-6 hole option. Castellanos is fine if he’s 5-6. Realmuto if he is just solid is fine as a 6-7 option. The protection that Suarez will bring harper and schwarber could be enough where they get more pitches in the playoffs then they havent gotten since 2022.

I don’t know what the stats are but I’d bet our bullpen numbers are middle of the pack over those 50 games. It’s really Romano who’s absolutely killed them in the BP during this time (not including games where Luzardo blew up and it was out of hand at that point)

Yes far as bullpen, the adding of Romano and subtracting Alvarado absoutely killed them there. If Romano was enough half way decent like sub 4 ERA that would help. He is just absolutely terrible. Terrible job by DD there.

In fairness Dombrowski’s last two offseasons have been atrocious.

2024:

—gives Nola a 7 year contract

— signs whit Merrifield

— kolb allard

— Spencer turnbull

2025:

— Romano for $10 mil

— Ross for $4 mil

—Kepler for $10 mil

— traded a top 100 prospect for Luzardo

Makes it worse is those guys making that money plus luxury tax on top of it. This off-season in particular Luzardo is about the only one that’s kind of work. He was good for the first two months. The last two months he’s been what his career has shown him to be. But that goes back to kind of what the marsh argument was at the time of that trade. When you have that valuable trade asset and you know you’re gonna use it for a trade, you have to cash in on it and hit on it. There’s still time for that to play out. And I didn’t have as big of a problem with that trade But it should be worrisome for everyone Dave is making trades with top 100 prospects and their evaluations so far haven’t panned out when cashing in those assets. No offense but that’s similar to the sixers throwing valuable trade assets away for marginal/mediocre players. Like what those prospects ultimately become doesn’t matter because they’re not here. What matters is at the time of the trade they had really good value and your evaluations have let you down on capitalizing on the value

Agreed. As much as I want them to get Suarez, it would suck to lose him after just a 2 month rental. How do you feel about giving up a bunch of prospects for him? I kind of wanted Ryan McMahon as he was under control through 2027 but also realized he's a left handed bat.

Frankly I actually like that move for the Yankees. They all wanted Suarez, but really their defense is bad. he is one of the best defensive third basemen in the league. I think his numbers this year are going to wind up being better playing ny. He was solid 2021-24 but at some point when playing with that bad of a team it takes its toll on you. Unlike Robert he’s hit 20+ HRs and at least 65 RBI each of the last 4 seasons. Tend to think his HRs stay the same as that ballpark in NY he can crank some homers out even if it’s not coors. He also should see his RBI be better as better lineup around him. Add on see more pitches with that lineup around him. Imo he reminds me of a better hitting version of Pedro Feliz. He’s Pedro Feliz if Pedro Feliz could hit 20 homers.

On Suarez, it’s tough cause he’s definitely gone at years end unless schwarber is gone then he likelY becomes your DH. I’d be fine giving up someone like Abel and then two middle tier prospects. As much as i like Abel I think he’s going to have a career where unless he fixes his control he’s always going to look great for 2-3 starts then bad for 2-3. Like Luzardo. I feel like with gage wood in the system and painter i could afford to deal him now. If they give up painter, miller, Crawford or Escobar it’s a high price to pay for a rental. Tbh i think if they get Suarez they are going to try to work with him to play first. Have Bohm at 3B. Bohm is a better fielder and frankly i think Suarez for rest of his career is likely DH or 1b

frankly, I think the sport would be better if they had a salary cap and a floor. But they really don’t need a cap as much as they need to have prevention of what the Dodgers are doing. Which is just deferring money down the road because they are in LA, they can afford to do it and nobody else can at that rate. There should be a cap on deferred money and more strict penalties for doing it.

I'm betting the Mets will be a very good team down the stretch and that means winning the East will be tough sledding. Not impossible but it seems to me a WC is the far more likely route into the post season.

Phillies always get the crappier sibling. This has been a thing for decades.

If Judge had a one armed brother, he’d be in Reading right now. And would probably have a higher batting average than Aiden Miller.

Why in the world would Manfred be talking about a salary cap, to MLB players, in the Phillies clubhouse? I find that hard to believe.

I think he’s been going around baseball and doing that. I feel like there was another story a couple weeks back where he was in another clubhouse talking about it with players to get ahead of a potential strike/lock out. there is a high potential that there is going to be a strike/lockout in 2027. Because the owners want to implement a salary cap and the players don’t want it. Ken Rosenthal been talking about this for like a year and a half now. It’s gonna happen.

He's going around to different teams to get a feel for the pulse before the next round of negotiations.

This was highly publicized and multiple news outlets reported on it before and after

Honestly, MLB sucks.

For all the deep playoff runs from the Marlins and Rays and the 2015 royals….MLB has too many franchises that, as Brad Pitt put it in moneyball, are simply organ donors.

This cycle of small market teams losing their home grown players and trading them off for more prospects to eventually trade off…it’s not good.

The Phillies do well in this system, but it’s bad for the sport.

Welp..... There goes that option

Tbh i didn’t love clase cause last postseason he got absolutely rocked. But it sucks cause now the market is smaller in terms of RP
