That's why when he comes back for the last month, I would ride him into the dirt. Might as well. Save guys like Strahm and Kerkering for the playoffs. No way the Phillies pick up Alvarado's 26 option.

He'll probably come back fatter and even more out of shape

Dodgers will get him

It would be organizational malpractice to trade your top pitching prospect, who projects to be a #1 or #2 for a relief pitcher. I dont care if he is the second coming of Mariano Rivera. Hopefully DD told them to get bent.

DD has boxed himself into a corner of his own construction. Two things he absolutely cannot do:

  1. Include Painter in a trade for a relief pitcher.

  2. Add nothing but a marginal relief pitcher who is not in the top rung of deadline names.

And he may have to choose one of them.

@e-a-g-l-e-s eagles! I know we always go back and forth about this farm system. I think we are about to find out what the rest of MLB thinks of it. Everyone keeps asking for Painter in a trade. He's the #1 prospect in the organization and top 10 in baseball...common sense to other teams and to us says he is untouchable.

So if no big move happens and other teams can't/won't do anything except ask for Painter, then it says a lot about Abel/Tait/Miller/Crawford/Escobar.

Add in "We absolutely tried to add top tier talent but we were not willing to gut our farm system to do so......" I can absolutely see the Phillies doing nothing and spreading this propaganda....

PS Bring back Amaro!!! He didn't always make the "right" move but man he tried!

And we don't need another bat...I mean we are making a pitcher with a 4 plus ERA look like Cy Young.

Eh not exactly sure about that. Trade market at the deadline is a sellers market. Would speak more if it was offseason and they didn’t want to budge off painter. Also Phillies might not be willing to give up some of those guys as well. I don’t think the Phillies really want to give up miller or Crawford either after listening to Matt gelb last night.

That’s a great deal for the Phillies. Hate losing Tait but getting Duran who has contract for 2.5 more years is awesome. IMO Abel is to hit or miss so cash in on his value

Wow...I am stunned! That is actually A O K with me! Now go get Suarez and Super Bowelzzzz!!!

What do we do for a bat now? Go get Rooker and Suarez

Looks like JT to return next year with Tait gone

If gage wood wasn’t there when they picked, i truly wonder if the Phillies take a catcher in that position with who was available.

I’d argue Duran might be our best closer (assuming he’s a closer) we’ve had since lidge/papelbon

The way I see it....give the Diamondbacks Miller and a couple lesser players for Suarez and let's go. Miller is going to be blocked here by Turner and Stott.....Play Suarez at 3B until Bohm comes back, and when Bohm is ready.....well then things will need to get creative (unless you are ok with Schwarber in LF which is just terrifying).

Topper will F it up and put Strahm as the closer and Duran to pitch the 6th
