Question: would you collectively trade Miller, Crawford, Escobar, and Nori…basically everyone but Painter, for Robert Jr. and Suarez?

No, Robert sucks he is hitting just above 200 with only 11 hr and is hurt all the time and Suarez is bad defensively also with Robert is also basically a rental. Thats a lot to give up for half a year guys that aren't really that great

If they didn’t sign Robertson I’d be worried. They are going to have Alvarado for last month and a half til the playoffs start so they can keep the guys fresher for the playoffs.

Yep. Who though?

Tbh i think it winds up just being Crawford in the end. I think price for Suarez and Luis Robert is more than they are willing to pay. They might get an Austin hays type bat.

I guess if they don’t trade for a bat, it makes sense to bring up Crawford immediately. If they don’t…then they really think he’s not ready.

If Kepler is actually hurt it makes more sense (if he’s kept). He’s gonna get to play almost everyday if Kepler is out. Problem is they won’t admit Kepler just sucks and they’ll still play him if healthy so he will play every couple days. Which for a young kid he really needs to be out there everyday to learn and adjust

I don’t like an undefined bullpen of two classes…high versus low leverage guys who match up against left or right dominant innings and no one has any idea at what point in the game they are pitching. I just think that gets the worst out of players. And that’s the Topper pen.

I love the 7-8-9 structure. That’s what they had in ‘08. It kind of sounds like (from the conferences with Topper and DD) that DD has dictated this is how it’s going to go with the bullpen now. 7-8-9 with Kerkering/Strahm/Duran with Robertson and the best of the rest competing for disaster middle relief duty. That’ll play. Alvarado can help them eat innings and close out games in the regular season when they need to rest arms.

The problem is just going to be getting quality at bats from the back end of the lineup. That and the streakiness of the bats they lean on are what will eliminate them in October.

Eh not exactly sure about that. Trade market at the deadline is a sellers market. Would speak more if it was offseason and they didn’t want to budge off painter. Also Phillies might not be willing to give up some of those guys as well. I don’t think the Phillies really want to give up miller or Crawford either after listening to Matt gelb last night.

To quantify my opinion of the farm system….I don’t think they have anyone in the entire system (besides Painter) that reasonably projects (in my meaningless opinion) as a perennial 2-3 WAR (or better) player.

Im not saying i wouldn't move some of those guys for at least one of those 2 but, all of them for those 2... No

Ill admit im biased when it comes to Crawford, huge fan of his dad with basically the same skill set. Having Justin on the Phillies and playing well would be awesome for me lol.

I wouldn’t have any problem with Crawford if he was bolstered and balanced by other players at the MLB level or at least in the farm system. The farm system has zero power. Crawford is the only bat in the entire system that is remotely MLB ready within 2 years, maybe more. And the MLB outfield is exasperatingly low on power. Outside of Castellanos (who isn’t exactly Barry Bonds)…every outfielder they have in MLB and every noteworthy outfield prospect they have in the system is a zero power guy who won’t scare any pitchers and will be a major drag on our lineup unless he’s getting on base a ton.

Crawford is the best, most projectable of that morass. And even he is going to make a living by slapping the ball around and using his speed to get on base. Not fair to take out the frustrations towards the franchise on him though. A contact oriented CF with speed who is having a great showing in AAA isn’t the one who should be getting anyone’s ire. We need much more than that, but it’s not his fault. He’s a nice prospect.

Well not getting Suarez

Taylor Ward anyone? Feels like we need 2 bats unless they bring up Crawford.

Great they got the bullpen figured out (we think) but bats are more of a need IMO. This lineup with inconsistent hitting is a joke and one Luis Robert Jr hitting .200 with no power isn't going to move the needle. Kepler Fn sucks and was another limp dick move by Dombrowski that he'll never own up to.

Kepler has been a mid level hitter at best throughout his career

Doesn’t seem like a huge haul for Suarez…

Yeah, and this year he stinks even worse, .203 batting avg and -0.4 WAR.

The angels made a trade to acquire help yesterday. Making it super unlikely they are going to be sellers. While they should as they are 4 back of the last wild card spot behind 4 other teams and will likely once again miss the playoffs
