August 3, 2025Aug 3 I'm all for keeping Schwarber if they plan on Dodger/Met-ing the luxury tax and just sending the payroll to the moon (which they don't). But how much money are they going to invest in a team that is still a big move away from getting over the top when all of their assets are declining?

JT may be re-signed at a reduced rate since they don't have any catching prospects other than Marchan. Walker and Castellanos have 1 more year left on their contracts. It would be nice if they could unload both of those guys even if they have to eat half the money owed. To be honest, that is more likely to happen with Nick than Tajuan. I don't know if any team would want Tajuan, even for free. Who knows what they do with Bader. If he performs well, he might opt out of his player option and hit free agency. We are stuck with Harper, Turner, and Nola for the foreseeable future. I think they either re-sign Scharber or go after Tucker. Schwarber will be cheaper and for less years (although he will get a nice raise over what he is making now).

Every foundational piece of this team will be a year older and a year regressed. I don’t think they’ll be so far out of it that they are deadline sellers, but Walker and Castellanos might actually be modestly trade able commodities next deadline.

August 3, 2025Aug 3 Castellanos got a single. Need him to get going. Entering the game his slashes from July 1 onward have been .221/.253/.389/.642
August 4, 2025Aug 4 Of course Morton - with an ERA over 5 this year - is settled in and mowing these limp Ds down one by one
August 4, 2025Aug 4 The Tigers are just seeing this change up on a completely different plane than where it’s actually going.
August 4, 2025Aug 4 I don’t blame Topper for all the platooning and pinch hitting with Kepler, Marsh, Sosa, Stott, Bader, Rojas…but it sure is annoying. None of these guys are good enough to solidify the full time job, but the constant shuffling and R/L matchup dance isn’t doing too many favors either. I generally think Topper over emphasizes R/L matchups, but the numbers don’t lie. When you have a morass of replacement level hitters, they are going to be disproportionately worse with the wrong matchups.
