I mean hey if Kepler starts producing I won’t be mad about it. Unlikely though

He is not capable of doing it on a consistent basis.

I can't believe they gave up all of those prospects at the deadline for a bunch of guys who didn't even play tonight... 🤣

Well they gave up meaningful prospects for Duran. Bader’s plane ticket to Philly cost the franchise more than the prospects they gave up for him.

When Bohm comes back, there’s really no room to play him. Bohm is going to be everyday third baseman. Sosa and Stott should be platooning based on their slashes Marsh and kemp should be platooning based off their slashes. Bader should just be the full time CF. Unless they are going to platoon Kepler with Castellanos which Matt gelb mentioned they discussed Castellanos being in a platoon in an organizational meeting last Friday.

But i doubt they rock that boat with Castellanos again. That said their platoon might work once Bohm is back

At second:

Sosa hits vs. LHP: .329/.393/.487/.880

Sosa vs. RHP: .217/.234/.370/.604

So need Stott VS. RHP and Sosa vs. LHP

In LF:

Marsh vs. RHP since May 1: .321/.382/.488/.870

Marsh vs. LHP: .200/.286/.260/.546

—Since May 1 vs. LHP: .216/.268/.297/.566 (37 AB are being limited to him)

Kemp vs. LHP: .270/.357/.486/.844

Makes sense to have Sosa/Stott platoon at 2b and kemp/marsh in LF once Bohm returns

The Sosa/Stott platoon is rational and is how they will go. Marsh/Kemp seems to make sense for LF, but I am not sure the Phillies are going to allow themselves to simplify it like that. I think it’s going to be a weird dance with Kepler/Bader/Kemp/Marsh. I just have a sense they aren’t going to park Bader in CF and they are still going to find a way to get Kepler in this mix. I don’t know if Topper is going to obsess over the R/L matchups enough to do Kemp/Bader against LHP and Kepler/Marsh against RHP. And then keep shuffling them mid game.

It’s a lot of balls to have in the air. Ideally, a team with WS aspirations wouldn’t be platooning more than one position. Ping pong balling 4 outfielders around 2 spots and 2 infielders around 1 spot is a lot of chess to play in October.

I tend to think that’s a game they have no choice but to play. They aren’t going to eke out enough bases and runs in October without platooning based on matchups.

Oh i guarantee we won’t in the OF. I don’t think it’s just Thomson. It’s Dombrowski, analytics team and Thomson making these decisions. Matt gelb in his recent article pretty much alluded to it.

IMO 2b with Stott and Sosa works. Frankly Sosa vs. LHP and Stott vs RHP gives you close to a top 5 statistical 2b. There they’ll be fine. They need Bohm back though cause Sosa can’t hit RHP well enough. He had some the last two weeks but the majority came against Yankees reliever who’s a minor league pitcher that will be sent down and the orioles RHP who gave up 5 consecutive hits and back to back homers to Sosa and then Wilson.

Really the mess they have is in the outfield. And it goes back to Castellanos not living up to what his contract is. He’s not been awful like he was the first year, but he still nowhere close to what they expected want from him. And the trade they made for Brandon marsh didn’t pan out like they thought. They believed they could play CF at a good level, teach him to hit LHP and strike out less. They’ve done 1 of those 3 things. It’s why when dealing a valuable trade asset you have to get more out of it than a platoon player. If marsh and castellanos were what the Phillies believed then could have bader either be everyday player or platoon with Kepler. But they didn’t. So now forced to rely on kemp who likely is going to have issues in OF.

Interesting headline to wake up to. Nice to get the W.

yippie i get to watch the crap of Weston Wilson and Marchan hitting 8-9

Hmmmm i bet he misses a 1-2 weeks once nola is back

Alvarez? Lol

How does that happen on the cover?

Maybe firing all of those old, white editors and replacing them with college kids wasn't such a great idea

It’s a ploy to see if MLB recognizes him as Alvarez. If they don’t he can’t pitch in the postseason.

Don’t know what it would cost but he is controllable for next 2 years

Good catching is hard to find..... last time the team did well....... I would have no problems sending them a bunch of players

I’m curious on what the price would be tbh. He’s definitely declined over the last year. He has 2 years of control left then need to pay him. So his peak value for orioles with 2 years left and would be to ideal to trade him this offseason with 2 years of control. However he’s having an awful year but been better lately. I’d probably do the trade depending on what it is. If it’s something like Escobar, nori and Cabrera I’d probably do it.

Especially considering what happened with Matt Wieters, they might be antsy

I believe they’ve also drafted catchers high past two years. Drafted two catchers this year at 19 and 30. Then last year (2024) in the second round. I tend to think they’ve been preparing to deal him before his contract is up.

we might not be able to hit but this serving girl is a smoke show behind home plate

Well Ranger getting crushed this game (6 hits in 3 IP) and this inning.

Sosa should’ve walked like 3 times that at bat. I like him but he has same issues as Castellanos where he just swings at everything. Been good vs. LHP but bad for RHP. His OBP also hovering around .300

Why Thomson allowed Ranger to continue to pitch after giving up the double is just dumb.

Castellanos been bad since July 1:

Since July 1st:

.220/.247/.367/.614 (27 Ks and 4 walks)

Since all star break:

.231/.265/.385/.650 ( 16Ks and 3 walks)

Total fail

Guardians got a no-no going thru 7 innings

That was a waste of time
