Ranger with a 5.40 ERA in his last 5 starts. Wheeler tiring out- probably going on the 15 day dl. Pitching staff leaking major oil. Can't believe I'm saying this, but Nola needs to hurry back.

10 game road trip coming up. 3 @ Texas, 3 @ Cincinnati, then 4 @ Washington. My expectations are 5-5 and anything better would be a bonus. Hopefully the Mets keep free falling.

Honestly we haven’t won in Texas since 2014 and lost 9 in a row there. I’m expecting 2-4 the first 6 games of that trip

Ooof. Knowing that, I think they lose 2 out of 3 to Texas, 2 out of 3 to the Reds then split in Washington. 4-6.

Ranger is a fascinating pitcher to evaluate. He's a little pudgy, doesn't have that Cole Hamels look to him as a lefty, and doesn't have overpowering stuff. So coming up through the system, he was never part of their main plans. 2020-2021 he was a middle reliever while more hyped up guys like Sixto and Howard came and went. Got some starts in 2021 and was pretty good in them. He got progressively better once they committed a rotation spot to him, but even in the playoffs, early on, they looked at him as more of an opener than a starter. But he'd save his best for the biggest moments. Feels like he's been around forever (because he has), but only in the last 2 years he's been looked at as a stud starter. But he trends to go from incredible early, to back to earth hard, to great in the playoffs...all with injury and availability issues sprinkled in between. I absolutely love the guy, but I just don't know that I trust him for a mega deal.

Given that this happens with him every season, I'm fine with them moving on from him. Some team will pay a fortune for him anyway that the Phils wouldn't match.

Been thinking about the Phillies offseason and what could make them good for next year and foreseeable future, Ranger is likely not in the plans neither is luzardo.

What I’d do but i doubt happens:

— trade for adley rutschman/let JT walk rather give up Escobar and someone like nori for a 27 year old catcher then be in the same spot in 2 years

— re-sign schwarber

— pick up alvarado’s option depending on how he looks next 1.5 months when he returns

— let strahm walk (i think wear is going to catch up to him)

— sign a RP that’s not awful like Romano

— pick up bader’s option if he’s interested in also picking it up; platoon him with marsh in LF

— painter takes over ranger’s spot

— trade Castellanos for whatever

— have Crawford play CF

— sign Kyle Tucker to play RF/if not Tucker see what happens with Bellinger who could opt out with the season he’s having

they really don’t have the balls to do it. Cause he should be replaced late in games and after the blowup they really haven’t done it unless it was a blowout

Bye Kyle

Not a snowballs chance in hell they re-sign Schwarber and then sign Tucker. Alvarado i wouldn't touch with a 10 ft pole. One more PED suspension for him is a lifetime ban. Even if he is cheap, you still have to always wonder if he will get busted again.

I think they’d go after Tucker even with schwarber if they can move off of Castellanos. I say this cause Castellanos coming off at $20 mil and Walker the following year at $18 mil. Gonna have some cheap players coming up to fill voids next 1-2 years in Crawford, painter, wood and miller. Miller likely replaces Bohm at end of 2026 so saving there. Also save if they deal for rutschman. He is still cost controlled and less than Jt. I tend to think they want to solve the OF problem and not have to worry about what’s happened the last 2-3 years. Tucker and presumably Crawford solves 2/3 of that. Marsh platoon solves the other 1/3. Do i think they get both? Unlikely but id be surprised if they weren’t in on him. I want to say Rosenthal and one of the beat reporters said they apparently tried to deal for him last offseason. The Astros just didn’t love the prospects and weren’t giving up painter or miller

With Alvarado it’s tough. Go look at the FA market. There’s about 4-5 guys you’d want and a lot of hoping guy is good like they tried with Romano. Probably best to just pick up the option as it’s not super expensive but also sign someone or trade for a reliever to go with him.

I think the upgrade of Tucker over Castellanos will be more than cancelled out by another year of age on Harper/Turner/Schwarber after his career year. Rookie Crawford in CF may not do a whole hell of a lot more than a Marsh/Rojas platoon has been doing.

So we are talking re-signing Schwarber and signing Tucker (THE major FA prize) just to tread water. (And it's kind of a pipe dream scenario anyway).

I genuinely do not think they are a playoff team next year. This year's team is flawed, but they will get to October and anything can happen at that point. So I'm going to enjoy the ride this year. I don't think there will be another for a while.

I think the Phillies will still compete for a playoff spot. They still have wheeler (assuming he’s still good), Sanchez. If Nola, painter and luzardo anre solid that’s still one of the best staffs in the NL. along with their bullpen can be good with Duran for the entire year along with kerkering gives you a good 8th and 9th inning. Add with Alvarado and another bullpen arm that’s good. Really it’s their lineup. Tucker would solve a massive problem which is cleanup. We are saying schwarber having a career year but he’s also had 47,46, 38 and currently 40 homers the last 4 years. I think he’s likely fine next 2-3 years. Him being a DH and missing time early in his career probably helps him have another good 1-2 years and maybe even 3-4. Also think Harper probably has similar to this year. Hes not 35-36 yet.

The issue is more Tucker coming here. I think Tucker winds up going to the highest bidder which may very well be Chicago or Yankees.

I tend to think they didn’t spend all that much this offseason knowing next offseason and 2027 they have a lot of money coming off to work with.

Very early but maybe why they were willing to deal tait in that deal

Schwarberszzzzzzz

No Bader again... Wtf was the point of even getting him

Kepler and kemp just swinging at absolute garbage.

Good job kemp

Quit playing kemp at 3rd base. He’s a -2 DRS and he’s only been up for like 2 months.

Looks like it will be a short game for both pitchers
