Edmundo really needs to stop playing vs. RHP. Hes hitting .210 and OBP is .225.

But.....but ........ but ....the analytics show he SHOULD be better...... and his splits......and OPS..... WAR......SLG..... wa wa blah blah wa wa.

Hmmm..... hits divided by at bats..... equals average...... and then home runs......is there anything else to see ?

I know I know ...... imma getting old school cranky ..... but it's all I need to determine if a player is any good at hitting.

All those other stats are just so the talking heads can rank guys and then say player " a " hitting .290 is slightly better than player " b " hitting .290

I'd say OBP is a more valuable stat than just average. Some of the other more advanced stats I can agree I don't care as much about.

IMO, it all tells you something. And the old school vs sabremetric approach both matter.

I agree that OBP is more valuable than batting average. But batting average still tells you something unique and valuable about a hitter with more granularity than OBP. A guy with a disproportionately good OBP but relatively low batting average is probably a nice, selective hitter who gets walks...and generates more runs over the course of a season...but there are also situations where you've got 1-2 outs, guys on 2nd and 3rd, a walk doesn't help you much, and you really just need a base hit. The guy with the high batting average, the forgotten stat, is the one you want at the plate.

Agreed that batting avg still tells something unique by itself. I was more saying that to me OBP is more important offensive stat overall because a .250 hitter who never walks is not as valuable as a .250 hitter who walks a lot. Getting on base in general is obviously very important. Don't get on base, don't score...

You can thank Billy Beane and Moneyball lol

Issue with Edmundo is more he plays the more he gets exposed. It’s always been that way with him. It’s why when he was traded he was expected to be a utility infielder. Play once or twice a week. He’s been playing everyday since Bohm got hurt. Frankly his slashes over his last 45 games since his best performance of the 4 hit game aren’t great and since Bohm got hurt are awful vs. RHP and not great overall. He is what he is, a utility infielder that can play a couple games a week but more he plays the more he’s exposed as a bench guy

In his last 45 games:

.217/.252/.380/.632

Since Bohm went on IL:

.245/.259/.434/.693

Vs. RHP: .194/.194/.419/.613 ( his season numbers vs. RHP: .210/.225/.350/.575)

He is just not good against RHP and proven to be worse when he’s gotten more chances with Bohm out.

To Edmundo’s credit his numbers this year vs. LHP are ridiculous and don’t really match what he’s been for his career. This year .337/.394/.512/.906. Career .269/.325/.470/.795.

I think there’s a chance that skenes cause he’s never pitched this many innings or for this long of a season that he begins to tail off at the end of the year and give Sanchez a shot at it. Likely? Probably not but i don’t think it’s out of the realm

This is shaping up like the 4th game in a row we haven’t had a hit thru first 3 innings and 3rd game in a row thru 4 innings

Thank you Stott for the reverse jinx!

Just saying schwarber and Harper have been brutally bad for most of this road trip.

Schwarber is 2-21 with 2 HRs and 3 RBi

Harper is 2-21 with 1 HR and 2 RBI

This team can’t hit again. Their season is 100% coming down to which bats show up. Frankly watching a lot of different teams i think brewers and padres are better if wheeler isn’t 100%

Odds that 6 game lead becomes 2 by the time we face the Mets?

100%

Out of the 25 innings they have played in this series so far, they've scored in 2 of them.

There’s 0% chance Romano makes the postseason roster right?

You would be correct

Their offense sucks against good pitching. For the most part degrom, Greene, Abbott and singer shutdown them for most of the game outside of an inning

How this team having the record they do is baffling. Come playoff time when they constantly face good pitching they’re lucky to win one game

Tbh i just think the padres and brewers are playing better and better overall constructed teams especially if you don’t get cy young wheeler and Sanchez with this offense

How Kepler, Ross and Romano are still on this team is amazing

Wow Braves were down 6-0 now up 9-6 lol

this is what happens when dave dumbo refuses to trade for actual bat aka hoskins replacement type of production, it's going to be the same problems, hoskins was the glue guy on this team, he was the big reason why we made the world series, without him, we are pretty much inconsistent.
