Oh, they’re on there. They defend giving Nola seven years so he could be a Phillie for life. I pointed out that band there’s been other athletes in this city that were more beloved and brought championships to the city that didn’t get to finish their career in Philadelphia. I I was like there’s bands in this city who View Ryan Howard less than what they should have because of his Achilles and the contract he got just before. Erin Nola wasn’t very good it is contract year. That should’ve been a red flag that he might be beginning his decline and you shouldn’t be giving him anything over like 4-5 years.

The other thing that I laugh at with those fans is that other teams were gonna give him that contract. BS. The only other team that was mentioned was the Braves. And that came out after he signed that they were willing to go that many years. Which feels much like a leak from his agent and the Phillies to justify the contract. Because when you look at the Atlanta Braves, go look at the guys they’ve lost as starting pitchers who were very good in their negotiations they wouldn’t go more than four or five years. So it feels like it’s BS put out there by the organization and his agent.

Frankly, even if you wanted him to learn to hit left-handed pitching the time to do it is not now. Because if you do it, then he starts struggling he will carry it over into his other at bats and be useless again. It’s why they haven’t let him consistently hit left handers since he’s come back.

Good news Aaron nola is starting game 1 next week vs. the Mets…

Nola might be worse than Walker at this point. Both huge failure contracts for Dombrowski.

I’d argue it is. Walker’s was a 4 year contract. He was also only expected to be their 4th starter when they paid him. Even if he was awful for all 4 years, it was only 4 years. Still a bad contract but it was less time and less expectations placed on him. Nola is in year 2 of a 7 year contract and has fallen off a cliff. Furthermore Nola wasn’t very good his contract year yet they still gave him that contract. They tried to BS everyone when the details were announced with the Braves were going to give him that type of deal so we had too and he took less. BS the Braves don’t give out 6-7 year contracts for starting pitchers in their 30s with a ton of innings on them.

I’d add if Nola can’t turn this around next year and this is how his career goes from here on out it might be one of their worst contracts in the last 30 years. At least with Ryan Howard his trajectory changed with the Achilles injury. This is Nola’s age and amount of innings caught up with him. Frankly the cliff was always gonna happen. The Phillies were hoping for it to happen at the tail end of the contract. Meanwhile it may very well be happening in year 2

Unless Nola bounces back in a big way next year which is unlikely as he gets older you're right it could be the worst contract in decades. I probably have more hatred for Dombrowski than most in here but the guy just year after year makes bad moves and then keeps guys like Romano on the roster WAY longer than they should be just to try to justify the horrible contract. If you go look at his contracts he’s give out since 2023 there’s been more bad than good. At some point you are winning cause Middleton gave money to spend and because Dombrowski spent poorly in the off seasons the past couple years he’s had to deal away prospects at the deadline to fix his mistakes. Duran and bader are great, however if Dombrowski didn’t completely F up the offseason outside of luzardo(even Luzardo he had to give up prospects cause of his F up with Walker to that point) then wouldn’t need to give up prospects or if you are then your team should be stacked and dominant. Instead it still has leaks in its bullpen and an inconsistent lineup. Wheeler is about the only thing you can say doesn’t fall on him. That type of injury cannot be expected

As much as my reaction to the acquisition of Bader at the trade deadline was "Meh", he has quickly become one of my favorite players on the team.

So got a 3 game lead in the 2 seed (thank you pirates). If we can handle our business against the marlins (god only knows how we look in Miami cause that’s been a house of horrors in the past) we can keep pace with the dodgers who play the crap orioles. It’s going to come down to what we do next 10 games before getting to the dodgers. If we can go into that series with a 2-3 game lead it would be massive.
