Ugh that was their shot

Just saying this first game is playing out exactly the way I said how the Dodgers had to win this series and eventually a World Series. You get your starter to go six or seven innings. And then you piggyback them with glasnow, Sheehan or kershaw for 1-2 innings. So you don’t have to use the majority of your bullpen that stinks. Because the Phillies did not knock out Ohtani earlier than they did, they’re going to have to face glasnow who is much better even out of the bullpen then most of the Dodgers relievers.

Also let me point out. Go back to what I said at the beginning of the year they don’t have a cleanup hitter behind schwarber and Harper. It is problematic when you have to have Castellanos or Alec Bohm be your cleanup hitter. That is a problem. If you did Bohm is hitting 5th and you don’t have marsh hitting 5th. Bohm, Castellanos and Jt aren’t good enough or consistent enough to be a 4 hole hitter And thus created more issues within the lineup

Feels like I’m watching the sixers anymore

Electrifying offense, as we all expected for the playoffs. This group shows up when the lights are brightest.

Lineup is flawed as they have too many easy outs and no cleanup hitter to protect Harper and schwarber. Plus marsh can’t hit LHP which becomes a problem like you saw tonight where had to sub Sosa in even though bader is hurt. Add on their bullpen has no one who throws gas besides Duran and Kerkering who’s a head case

Running it back didn't work, huh? Shocking

Same pattern every year. Do jack crap in the offseason, team has a good regular season, everyone starts to believe, and they crap the bed in the playoffs. If they go out with a whimper again this year, this has to be the final straw. Either Middleton gives a blank check to Dombrowski to fix this roster by overspending or they start gutting it. Because if they can't do it this year, I don't know how many times they want to watch this same movie to realize it ends the same way every time. So many players on this team cannot handle the big moment. Top lineup guys shitting the bed... again. Bullpen blowing up in big spots... again. And with it in their heads they're going to play tight in those spots because everyone in that ball park fears it's coming.

Ever since that 5-homer game against Houston in the 2022 World Series, this offense has been anemic as hell. Too many free swingers and not enough contact guys.

Not impressed with the showman? that was an exciting single

I honestly hope they get swept at this point. Changes need to be made and that may only happen if they get embarrassed.

Pretty much what will happen next year minus Suarez

This is inexcusable. They can’t win with what they have so do something in the offseason. Changes must be made. We’re sick and tired of the same results every ukn year. Put so much time and money for this friggin team and nobody has any jolt or urgency. This team lacks everything especially leadership. Nobody gives a damn. This team is missing a lot to be a championship team. Every presser seems like "they’re just happy to be there” its not good enough and it’s never gonna be with what they have. I’m sick of it

They are going to use the wheeler excuse. Frankly, there is some truth to that because against the Dodgers, not having Wheeler matters more. He’s able to go 7 innings and can ride him through tough spots. The problem issue with Sanchez is that he’s not as experienced as wheeler and dodgers are a lineup that can look dead all game but eventually they pick up on things. I talked about early in this game. The Dodgers the third time through the lineup when they’ve seen you are going to make you work. If you aren’t on top of your game from the first pitch to the last pitch you make the are eventually gonna take advantage of it. Which they did. Which is why I said as soon as he gave up the single to Edman to take him out. Because you could see that he didn’t have it anymore. He was losing his control so that he got behind, he eventually had to throw a strike and they hit it when he did.

Their lineup has a too many flaws to beat this type of dodgers team. They are missing a cleanup hitter. The dodgers can go Ohtani, Betts, Hernandez then freeman. It allows guys like Edman behind him to be even better. Frankly Bohm with a legit cleanup hitter in front of him becomes more valuable like Edman does. Furthermore marsh not being able to hit LHP is an issue hitting him 5th. It basically allows teams to force you to have him hit LHP which he does poorly. Or burn through your bench. So when bader is out it’s more glaring. Also Castellanos and Kepler straight up aren’t good enough. Tbh $10 for Kepler and his numbers are nearly identical to Kody Clemens. Which could saved $10 mil put it towards fixing your pen. Then again Romano and Kepler for $20 mil the money should’ve and could’ve been better spent elsewhere.

bullpen is once again not good enough. Per usual with Dave. Have one reliable guy in Duran. Banks is ok but he’s not a guy that should be your second best high leverage guy. Strahm hasn’t been as good. Robertson has a 6.30 era since September 1. Kerkering is a head case and tbh shouldn’t be relied on. You Fed up with the Romano signing and Alvarado wasn’t good when he came back and even if he were eligible i think is an issue.

I’m just so tired of ownership and players saying "it’s baseball, you just have to hope to get hot at the right time”. While there is truth in that, it’s such a horrible message to be echoing. It’s basically a built in excuse.

They’re pathetic off-season is the reason they’re gonna lose this series. $10 million wasted on Romano. That’s $10 million you could’ve given to somebody else that could actually be useful in your bullpen. So that when you got to the seventh, you don’t have to just rely on Robertson. Kerkering regressing second half the of the season was also them assuming he’d just make the jump. He hasn’t. Probably just is a second tier RP.

Maybe you could use Walker Bueller or Nola as the right handed pitcher there, but the problem is the Dodgers know bueller very well. Nola was never used as an Hugh leverage RP this year. Seems problematic to throw him out there in biggest game of the year. And both are forced to face a minimum of three hitters. So a problem is you don’t want him pitching against Ohtani who’s up 3rd. Want strahm.

Furthermore, Max Kepler should not be starting. He’s had one good month and the rest of the time he’s been poor. Kody Clemens has almost identical numbers. So you threw $10 million away when you had Kepler already couldve used on either another bullpen arm, which would make your BP stronger or you could’ve used it on an actual right handed hitter that could platoon with Brandon marsh. Instead, you don’t have that. You have Sosa and kemp. I like Sosa but even if he gets that hit tone it, another issue occurs. your outfield takes a massive hit cause you don’t have a centerfielder anymore because bader got hurt and you took marsh out cause he can’t hit lefties.

If the Phillies lose this series, here's what's going to happen.

Dave Dombrowski is going to say in his end of season press conference that the Phillies actually played really well and cite some metrics that show the Phillies didn't play as badly as everyone thought. And the series could have gone either way, it just came down to a couple plays.

Reiterate that the playoffs is about getting the right breaks and it's largely based on chance.

Say he loves the roster and will dance around questions about their free agent plans.

In free agency they will re-sign Schwarber and call it an offseason and do nothing else except maybe re-sign Realmuto, but they will bring in no outside free agents other than bargain bin nobodies who may not even make the roster. And they will sell everyone on the improvement coming from Justin Crawford and the platoon guys in the outfield getting bigger roles.

And next season will be the same story. Rinse repeat.

Dombrowski and Middleton need to be willing to go the extra mile to get this team over the hump, but I don't think they are. I think the owner cut off the spending and I think Dombrowski doesn't have the aggressiveness he used to when he was younger.

Game 6 2023 NLCS- Schwarber, Turner, and Harper a combined 0-9 with 3 walks and 4 K's.

Game 7 2023 NLCS- Schwarber, Turner, and Harper a combined 1-11 with 1 walk and 3 K's.

Game 1 2024 NLDS- 3-11 with 2 walks and 4 K's.

Game 2 2024 NLDS- 3-12 with 3 walks and 4 K's.

Game 3 2024 NLDS- 2-9 with 3 walks and 2 K's.

Game 4 2024 NLDS- 1-11 with 1 walk and 6 K's.

Today- 1-11 with 1 walk and 6 K's

Totals- 11-74 (.149 average) with 14 walks and 29 K's

Anyone wants to know why this offense is so feeble in the postseason, just take a look at the 3 highly paid money guys who continue to shrink in the bright lights.

They are also 1-4 in their last 5 home playoff games. I don't want to hear any more about the great homefield advantage of CBP.

Schwarber is 0-15, 8 K's, 2 BB in last 4 playoff games.

Maybe i cursed them seeing them win game 5

I keep saying it but he is the damn problem l. He doesn't know how to manage in big games

sad

No offense no one in their right mind is using Fing Taijuan walker there. Walker Bueller is also likely not an option as the dodgers have better scouting reports against him than anyone. He basically was a prospect there and grew up in that organization. As for Nola he has never been a RP. Asking him to come in as a RP in biggest game if the season and in the highest of high leverage situations is absolutely ridiculous. He has a 6+ era this year but he’s going to randomly be good in a situation he’s never done against arguably one of the best lineups in baseball?

Again this goes to Kerkering has been bad for 2 months now otherwise it would’ve been him. Tbh the decision should’ve been strahm starts the 7th cause he was coming in for Ohtani anyway and his splits are actually better vs. rh batters this year than LH

This team is the early 2000s Reid/McNabb Eagles all over again and it’s brutal.
